If someone drinks wine and gets drunk, but only at that one chapter, woold that fall under rated R for use of alcahol?

Certainly not; alchohol in itself doesn't constitude an R rating. That one chapter would just be PG-13; as long as he doesn't do anything insanely innapropriate while intoxicated (such as anything really violent or sexual), that should be fine. Just give a warning before the chapter begins. ^^

Glad I read these rules before I posted. My friend skipped this step. Haha Thanks for this!

i think it should be against the rules to make a post/critique that offers more compliments than criticism.

No, not really. What if the chapter was really good and offered hardly anything to critique? And what if all the criticism has been mentioned therefore all you've got to say is praise?

I can only assume that you meant 'a post/critique that only offers mindless praise and the author can glean no help from at all' And even then, I would have to say it would have to be a repeat offence for it to be breaking the rules.

then there's no point in posting.

yes but it's pretty rare for praise to be useful in improving one's writing.
and the repeat offence thing is BS, there's no way of keeping track of that.
what could be good is maybe have an instance like this be worth 2 of these fabled infraction points. and us sparkling users here can report crappy posts and make our egos feel good.

That's totally untrue. It's just as valuable to know what you're doing right about something as it is to know what you're doing wrong. A positive post can offer nothing (i like ur story rite more plz), but then again, a negative post can offer nothing as well (aaml sux stop writing omg). A positive review that explains what aspects the reviewer thought were well done and why can be just as valuable as a negative critique.

To be honest, mindless praise is bad, or mindless praise with an attempt of crit. There are some examples of it. One of it had the person saying this is good! But it could deal with more talking! But that's up to you!

I look over it; it was four rushed, skimpy, and overall eye burning paragraphs listing off something that could have easily been a whole, whole lot longer and more decent.

So I have to agree, mindless praisers should get their heads whapped once or twice- but if the story IS honestly good, and decent, and you really can't find anything wrong, then fine, tell the writer what you like about it; the plot, the story progression, the characters, the actions.

Don't just say lol this is epic!, tell WHY it is epic! >.>

The only reason to post on a fic shouldn't just be to criticize. What kind of forum would this be if the only posts you ever read were negative? What about the great fics, the ones that are genuinely excellent? They would literally get very few to no reviews, while mediocre fics would get mountains of reviews.

As for spam reviews, the rules already prohibit those, but that's hardly the point. I've got to agree, there is nothing inherently wrong with the review system right now.

this would be a bloody utopia

except for the fact that barely any proper critiquing happens.

i think one of the more experienced regulars here should do a genuine 'how to review a piece' article and sticky it or even a copypaste of this.
i also think there should be more encouraging for 'crit for crit'.

this forum is dead and i really can't see how any aspiring writer is gonna have good use out of it. sure there are the rare one or two good critiques that happen but it should become more of a community and there should be more than just someone posting more and more chapters in their own thread expecting the magic to happen.

    Hum....

This isn't Fiction.press or whatever, or FF.net, or any real writing forum. This is a Pokemon forum with a SUB FORUM for writing- and to be honest there are decent reviewers out there, or are you just being in general someone blind to facts?

Or are you mad you didn't get the reviews you felt you deserved? And they went to others?

I knew a user like that- he attacked and hated others because they got more reviews than he did, when it was kinda his own fault, for the material he wrote half the time.

There's nothing wrong with reviews that offer more praise than critique, imo aslong as, as I said, it's not mindless praise from someone who would do the equivalent of 1000/10! without explaining why it's so epic in their view.

So ... stop whining putty .-.

What's with the hit alien from the Last Starfighter smiley?

I too have noticed this forum is relatively dead in terms of reviewers as well. Unless the author is well entrenched or what you write really catches people's eyes, good luck on getting a review. Though, hits seem to come along at a fairly good clip so I guess people like reading.

But, Yami's right, this is a sub forum of a Pokemon forum. Fan fiction isn't emphasized here.

I still don't like the wording of the ratings because I'm still not sure what can fit in the PG rating you describe.

Reviewing shouldn't be about getting something in return. Reviewing, especially the critiques you've been mentioning, should be about helping writers improve, not to garner more attention for yourself.

And not every person is going to like people being honest with them, just as you aren't too happy with everyone here disagreeing with you.

Thank you, Saffire Persian, for the lovely banner.

They also post to ***** their links in their signatures. That's why you see many writers with fancy, eye catching banners in their sigs. So when they post, everyone sees it. *Thinks of getting a banner more making one*

But the point of the actual post it to tell people what you like about their story and what they can improve on. Reviewers are there to help the writer become a better writer.

Putty, now you're just starting to whine because you're not being treated as God's gift to the forums. Reviews primarily are crit but not everybody is able to as simply say what they liked a lot which is a BIG help. Tells a writer what they're doing right...

I'm an SMod. Do I get many reviews? No. Do I go whining about it in the freaking Rules? No.

    So please stop.

it's just funny that every subforum on this site seems to be really poorly maintained compared to some other places ... all the other places i visit, just thought this could be a way to dust off this place. but ok let's go keep our 'omgz luv ur pieece gd stuf'.

'tells a writer what they're doing right' - EXCELLENT USE OF THE SEMI COLON IN YOUR PARAGRAPH FANTASTICO BRILLIANT

alright stop time it is - just wanted the last word for selfish, ignorant reasons.
