prob would be as may wouldn't be dense like ash was and if ash is a girl he won't be dense with this type of thing so the only thing would be that it is easier for it to happen

haha, I don't think so. Ash would still help her-um- him, in catching pokemon and do the same things, only one is a female, the other male. Same thing. xD

i think that ash and may would get into a relationship faster and would travel all the regions together. also may would prob battle gyms in the first two regions at least as contest were never talked about then.

Hm....Good question Aura. I think they would be the best of friends and share everything together. I also agree somewhat with Adam that they'd get together faster. Plus, May would never have been subjected to her fear of Pokemon if she knew Ash for so long. I disagree with the gym battle thing though. I think May would simply cheer Ash on, until she discovered contests. Plus, since they are childhood friends, you can't assume that they'd live in Kanto. In this AU scenario they probably live in a different region.
