Advanceshipping General Discussion: Where Ash and May ADVANCE together ;D

Why do you still support Advanceshipping? And what, in your opinion makes Advanceshipping stand out from conflicting ships and other shippings in the fandom?

Why do you still support Advanceshipping? And what, in your opinion makes Advanceshipping stand out from conflicting ships and other shippings in the fandom?

I support this because 1) The community is very mature and developed much more than some other ships. 2) May is one of my favorite characters in the anime and I feel that the Advanced Generation was made the best series because of her inclusion. 3) Ash and May really were made for each other. Both of them have matured a lot from beginning to end of AG, Ash became much more caring and May, well, back AG001, she was much more impatient, a little bratty and overall different. What really says a lot were her first words in the anime, when she admits she doesn't really like pokemon and is only getting one so she can travel. She saw Ash caring for his Pikachu, and suddenly she not only changes her perspective on the journey, but develops feelings for Ash and begs him to join her.
The thing that separates it from the rivals are how compatible the two characters are. Misty was really just mean to Ash, I guess she felt she was older and could boss him around or something. Dawn kind of strikes me as a girl that has had everything handed to her on a platter, and while Iris definitely has a shot, it is a relativity lousy shot compared to Ash and May. As for Drew, it is pretty obvious he likes May, the big question mark is whether or not May has any feelings for him. I mean, he has been insulting her constantly. It's a little like the relationship between Fox and Wolf in the Star Fox series. But with AdvanceShipping, May has had some obvious signs that she likes Ash since the first episode, and Ash has treated her much better than his other traveling partners in the other generations.

So yeah, that's my AdvanceShipping rant.

Idk, to be honest. I seem like the kind of guy who would like Pokeshipping when I think about it, but I don't/

I think fanfics and fanart is kinda what keeps me going right now.

As for why it stands out. We all have our reasons. Mine is Misty acted like a jerk to Ash quite often and had a short fuse. Then May came and acted nice and even looked up to him. I liked that about her.

I support Advanced shipping because it was the generation of Pokemon i grew up with and the one that stands out to me. To me (and various other) May seems most likely to fall in love with ash because he served a mentor/friend role in the show and they were so to each other compared to that of Iris and Misty. even if this is isn't based on mutual feelings at all. Ash served a huge role in May's life that i think would cause her at least to get a crush on him. Then we can add the 9th movie into perspective and their you go, their the perfect little couple.


as for why it stands out to me, i have these reasons;

-Misty x Ash doesn't suit me for one of the most popular and obvious reasons, Misty is in my mind too old for Ash and i just don't see the way they acted in the show to come out as a proper couple relationship. Plus Misty made way more of an impact on Ash's life than Ash made an impact on Misty's life. I get the idea that back then Misty would feel more like Ash's babysitter sometimes and be more likely to fall in love with Brock (which could explain her need to drag him away from every girl he flirts with).

-Dawn x Ash i see just not as likely to happen as May x Ash because Ash didn't really have an impact in Dawn's life compared to the impact in May's life. Dawn knew what she wanted to be in life and knew she wanted to become a top coordinator while May just wanted to travel and in mid swing decided to become a Pokemon Coordinator. people like Zoey, Maylene, and Candice had more of an impact in Dawn's life that Ash did and helped her through her problems while Ash was busy with his Gym battles.

-Ash x Iris i don't really see because like with Misty, Ash has had little to no impact on Iris's life. The way i have seen Iris has really taken good care of herself, and their relationship as friends doesn't say to me that they would get along as a couple. On a side note, i must congratulate the writers of the story for not having Ash meet her by him destroying her bike....AGAIN!

I am thinking of working on a fanfic. All the characters are kinda OOC, but it fits the story. Basically, Ash, May, Drew, Dawn and Gary all go to the same private high school with other unnamed characters (Tracey might appear too; Ash needs more guy friends closer to his own age, gurr). The plot is already semi-developed at the beginning, instead of the typical Ash-and-May-both-realize-their-feelings-for-each-other-at-the-same-time-with-May-getting-the-ball-rolling plot that most fanfics use. Ash has fallen in love with May and has already confessed before to find May doesn't feel the same way. Dawn appears as Ash's friend, Gary as Ash's best friend and he has a secret crush on Dawn, and Drew as May's ex and friend/enemy. What happens is when Ash saves the class from a school shooting, he gains much respect from his peers, especially May.
Any feedback on the idea, and do I have to worry about people stealing it or does that never happen? My mom's a writer; I hear about stuff like that all the time.

it definitely sounds different and i think it could work. You should try it, it's not a bad idea, I'm impressed by the fact that you found another plot than the Overused May confesses-first-plot and trying something else. I never heard of somebody trying to claim something you wrote on the internet before. In real life it is a big worry but here on the Internet i don't think it is so much of a problem. Something i should mention is this, Dawn is known for being a fan of Professor Oaks poetry and has spotted some of that same poetic talent in Gary, i think you could use that in your story to get the ball rolling on you Gary x Dawn sub romance. Drew i actually have a lot of respect for but in a way i don't think most people expect. (moving on) Anyways you probably could make this work really well as long as you execute it well and keep in mind that we are still talking Pokemon here.

I think it's a pretty good idea. The plot seems well thought-out, the setting is certainly original, if Pikachu came along to school that would be pretty cool too (Since, like T-bird said, this is still Pokemon.) Overall I think it's a great idea, keep us updated on how it's coming along!

Also, I doubt anyone here would steal the script, and even if they did, no one can execute a story better than the creator. In other words, any cheap knockoffs of your story would just give you a better reputation for your story, with others seeing that your story is worth other people trying to steal. That's always how I look at it, at least.

Edit: I agree with jewelz, I liked the part where Ash actually gets rejected because May doesn't feel the same way back as well, that's a great twist to the usual Pokemon Fics.

I do like the part where Ash confesses to see that May doesn't feel the same back to him, to me that is new but the rest is something i've read before. But if you are able to make it interesting and add a few twists here and there you should be alright.

Thanks for the feedback everybody. I have about 1k words written so far; this fic will probably be fairly long. It is influenced mainly by my own life, with other influences from TheShinyGengar's Harley and Me and Life as a King, a fic called My Lone Hero, and my previous writing, which is mainly presentations. The story will probably be pretty different from normal, I'm not sure to what extent Pokemon will be implanted, currently it is seen a game/sport and as a hobby of Ash and Gary (maybe May too, idk yet). Pikachu is not currently planned to be much more than referenced by Ash. The story takes place more in the modern world than the Pokemon world (I might make a version in the Pokemon world too if it is requested), and there are references to popular culture such as MineCraft and shipping. Expect it to be different, expect it to be kinda weird, and considering the feedback I've gotten on some of my other work, expect it to be not half bad. As for the middle/ending, it's an AdvanceShipping fanfic, and the only person who can really end one of these sad and make it work is Midnight. This is probably going to be some type of cross between standard AdvanceShipping fanfics, Family Guy, Will Grayson, Will Grayson, Life as a King, My Lone Hero, and my previous writing. So basically, this will probably have a real story and deep meaning, while still having some parts where you are at least going to chuckle a little bit. My ultimate goal is to make this different and make you both laugh and smile/cry in the same fic. So expect pop-culture references, expect moments where you are just going to be looking up at the ceiling, and expect moments that warm your heart. If I can deliver any of those promises, I'll be happy.

Highschool fics tend to get a lot of crap because fanfic writers have really ruined their reputation. Just make sure it's not the average, cliche plot, which you appear to be doing atm. So good job, and good luck. xD

What do you mean by "which you appear to be doing atm" and "So good job"? Is that supposed to be mean/sarcastic or am I just not reading it correctly? I'm reading it as you saying to not make it a cliche plot then saying that's what I'm doing and then saying good job for making it cliche.

Anyways, the fic might start with an obscenely long prolog/introduction (1.3k words or 3.5 pages in MLA format so far; I want to describe Ash's full week at school, have the first day just about done). It should be done relatively soon, maybe I'll have it up by the time Gengar over here updates Life as a King.

If you're having a problem getting to the point, only add the necessary information into the story's scene, so you don't bore your readers and get into the story itself faster. Just a suggestion though. =p

I'll finish reading your story later today and then I'll give some more suggestions, that was just based on what you told us in your post.
