I believe this is the 109, 569 Staraptor we see in the anime. By the time Staravia evolves if it does I won't feel a thing.

    Glad to see Empoleon.

Man, a lot of quality moments in this episode, such as James' flashback (and the music) being cut short by Meowth dragging him away, and of course Jun running headfirst into Ash. Twice. XD

Is it just me, or does Shimura do her best work with battles, yet everything else is average?

    Cacnea flashback = WIN
Chimchar beating a Staraptor = EPIC WIN

Speaking of, there were some damn impressive acrobatics going on during that fight.

Wow, Roserade wasted no time in beating the crap out of Chimchar. o_O

Man, what was up with all the close quarters combat in this battle? Not that I'm complaining...it was a nice change from all the Ice Beams and Hyper Beams that usually get thrown around in every other episode, but still, it's kinda wierd...

And of course, Empoleon had to have the obligatory HYPAAAA BEEAAAAMMMMUU!! And I never expected it's voice to be so high...

Gliscor vs Roserade was pure unadulterated awesome!

    GSC battle music! ^__^

I was expecting Pokemon Symphonic Medley to show up, but thank Arceus it didn't.

    And lol @ Empoleon flying.

-Jun didn’t even have to try in order to become a favourite of mine. The guy was already fun in the games, but the animé took it the whole 10 yards. Along with Conway, he’s easily the most entertaining character since Harley, so the fact that he’s probably going to be around ‘til Diamond and Pearl’s end is superb.
"I've got it, I've got it, Mushashi, Kojiro and Nyarth, yeah, yeah." Was easily the best motto-interruption for a long time.

-Likewise, James' emotional, melodramatic trip down memory lane was a corker.

-I was watching the battle and all the while I couldn’t help thinking to myself '...Good god. Is this really the same person we were so despondent to have working on this show during the Battle Frontier?'. It’s remarkable to see just how far Izumi Shimura has come since then, and anyone who can badmouth an episode like this must be mad. Either that, or blind. This woman deserves nothing but praise.

-Speaking of which; All three of those fights were awesome. You can’t possibly go wrong with a Muku/Close Combat/MagmaAqua theme combo. If our favourite BIRD doesn’t learn that move, I shall be sorely disappointed.
And to end this particular Muku.PARAGRAPH; Check out it’s leg when it crashes to the ground. If that ain’t broken, then I’m not a loser watching a kids cartoon.

-Ahh Roserade. No matter how likely it may be that you’ll become a future Steelix, You’ll always be second to the karate chicken. As short as the bouts may have been, they were definitely worthy of the $alary man’s sidekick.

-Emperte, you hilarious upper class fiend. Invest in an operation to rid those lungs of excess helium.

-Even with that square jaw and a hairdo that could home 4 separate colonies of bees, there's just....something about that woman that's...well...I should probably get out more, n'est–ce pas?
In any case, I personally found her to be a lot more entertaining in this episode than she was the last time, and considering how well received she was by the majority for her performance during her debut, that's saying something. Particular favourite segments included her pirouetting out of Brock’s grasp, and that frankly strange hip wiggling. And of course, the engrish.

I was slightly disappointed by the brevity of Gliscor's battle in this episode. Did it even last a minute?

No, but it was still my favorite part of the battle. No long-range attacks, just straight up close combat ***-kicking.

    I LOVE JUN SO MUCH!

Okay after that I will like to say that I never thought ever that Shimura was animating this episode. That was incredibly well animated, she did such an amazing job it baffles me. I still can't believe it's her because I always thought her job was just "okay" and nothing special. This episode proved me so wrong.

Jun is the best addition to the show so far. Not only he has an amazing team but he's super entertaining, not annoying, he has an incredible look and his voice is crazy. Dump Brock and make him join, please!

Brock’s dance when he saw Fantina was hilarious and so was James and his Cacnea love.

I’m glad to see that Jessie still acknowledges Seviper after getting a new pokemon. I expected Seviper to get the shaft, but it’s still appearing and doing a “good” job for Team Rocket.

Staraptor while appearing too much was great to watch so was Roserade. Under great animation and a great battle you can enjoy even the most annoying pokemon in existence. Empoleon was amazing but the voice bothered me. It didn’t fit the pokemon for me.

    Hyper Beam…-___-

If Staravia evolves and doesn't learn Close Combat I'll smash my computer. That attack while simple was too awesome.

Amazing episode. One of my favorites.

Yep. Definitely her best since Lucario vs Buizel IMO.

I just loved Jun-quirky and nervy but all in all really entertaining. His pokemon are all fully evolved but judging from the battle against Ash, his pokemon are really low in defense. How can a single flamethrower take out a Staraptor? Ash's pokemon can usually take a lot of hits even with a type disadvantage.

It's probably following game mechanics: Close Combat lowers the user's Defense and Special Defense, and Staraptor really isn't strong in Sp. Def. to begin with, so falling to a single flamethrower really isn't that farfetched.

then again Jun was panicking when the first flamethrower nearly made contact.

It could be his Staraptor was recently evolved or something since i bet Ash's Staravia could kick it's butt, even Reggies Starpator put up more of a fight.

my fav part of the battle, Roserade and Gliscor beating the heck out of each other until both fainted, nothing riles me more than a good old fashioned fist fight to the death..though in this case it was rose vs claw.

I see they once again broke the laws of stand and recover after a hyper beamish move is used as well, and Hydro Cannon still looks dorky, Empoleon's looks like a normal water Pulse almost.

I hope whenever Blast Burn comes out in the anime it doesn't look retarded since so far Frenzy Plant is the only good looking elemental hyper beam move.

The episode was great, & i liked the Hydro Cannon attack which Jun's Empoleon used (but it looked a bit low powered than "Frenzy Plant" attack in the anime & a lot like Dawn's Swinub's & Paul's Weavile's "Ice Shard" attack). And by Jun's Empoleon using Hydro Cannon attack & Paul's Torterra knowing 'Frenzy Plant' it seems that we will see Ash's Chimchar learn 'Blast Burn' if it evolves to Infernape. But at the same time i am a bit sad that since Jun is going to be a reoccuring character we will not at all see Dawn's Piplup evolve at all (atleast till the Sinnoh league is over).

My god, I absolutly loved that part of the battle. I wish we could battles like that more often! Fistfight battles like that are the best, hands-down.

Really? I thought it looked more like an Ice Ball.

We've never seen a Blast Burn in the anime, haven't we? I really want to see if it's like Blast Burn in Colleseum/XD.

It grasping straws, but I'd like to see Infernape learn Blast Burn form Ash's Charizard. Each time Charizard has returned to Ash since the Johto League (or it could have been since Noland), it has learned a new attack at the Charicific Valley. If the pattern continues, I want it to come back with the strongest fire attack to prove its might, and to help bring about Infernape's eventual might.

But at the same time i am a bit sad that since Jun is going to be a reoccuring character we will not at all see Dawn's Piplup evolve at all (atleast till the Sinnoh league is over).
I thought that Pokebeach interview confirmed that Piplup wouldn't be evolving? It's sad, of course, but it evolving is just as likely as Pikachu evolving atm.

This was a pretty fun episode.

-Love how they kept in Jun's gimmick of bumping into the main character.

-Yes! They BETTER have given Jun a voice like his. I'm so tired of people basing characters supposed sexuality on looks. Jun's is perfect, not too deep and not to high-pitched.

-Love how Jun interrupted the TR Motto.

-Glad they're not abandoning the Cacnea storyline. Hope this means we will see it again.

-Why, why, why does NoA insist on keeping up with that incredibly annoying tradition of making the Gym Leaders name have something to do with their choice of type? Melissa is such a perfect name for the Ghost Trainer and it's even an English name!

    -No Grotle, darn.

-Close Combat looks so awesome performed by Mukuhawk. I'm so glad Gamefreak gave it that move. It pwns every molecule in existence.

-Wow, Chimchar could beat Mukuhawk but not Roserade, a Pokemon it should have been strong against?

-Meanwhile, Gliscor ties against Roserade, a Pokemon it should be weak against?

-Ok, please tell me what that Ball Shaped move Empoleon used was. I'm dieing to know.

-My guess as to why Grotle wasn't included in the ending is because of the different coloring style used in most of the Pokemon's appearance in it.

Chimchar had sustained some damage from Staraptor beforehand so the loss is understandable.

More like they were neutral to each other.

I hope your being sarcastic...if not that was Hydro Cannon, still as dorky looking as when Gary's used it, heck Empoleon's can practically be passed off as a water pulse.

Then again, Shimura's animated Hydro Cannon both times it showed up, so it may be partially her fault. Meh, I still like hydro cannon, so it doesn't really matter to me...

So what attack was Gliscor using against Roserade? I haven't seen the episode yet and it's hard to tell from pictures.
