Our story begins in the P2 Laboratory Complex, located in the islands south of the region to create new military technology in secrecy. Many projects have come and gone in the complex, the most recent being a new super-soldier project codenamed Castellia. The goal of the project was to give all the powers of Pokemon to human soldiers to reduce the number of units needed in one place. Various methods were tested, most of which involving some form of power armor, but one method took a radically different approach. This method spliced the genes of humans and Pokemon together, creating human/Pokemon hybrids dubbed “Pokemorphs”.
The Pokemorph project would have been successful if everything had gone according to plan. The lab’s reactor malfunctioned, causing the lab to explode. No one knows what caused the malfunction, but most personnel within the lab suspected sabotage. Among the few that escaped the explosion were five of the test subjects from the Pokemorph experiment.
The explosion from the lab vaporized the mutagen, and in its gaseous form, it spread across Unova. The infectious gas spread all the way to Icirrus City at its farthest. The infected land was cordoned off from the rest of the world, trapping all who were exposed to the air in the area inside. A ten-foot tall concrete wall was constructed at the parameter of the area of affliction. The soldiers guarding it remain on the uninfected side, making sure that no one goes in or out without authorization.
It wasn’t long before word of the incident reached the rest of the world. Pictures and videos of people transforming were posted all across the internet, only causing more controversy to the repercussions of the various experiments performed in Unova. Some people were outraged, others believed that it was the next step in human evolution. The commotion caused by the event caused Unova to come out and tell the truth about what had gone on in the labs. Various named arose for the area of affliction, but with the various witnesses and videos of people transforming within the area, people began calling it the “Transland”.
Three days after P2 exploded, a mercenary army known as Zenith, entered the Transland, as it came to be known, under the noses of the Unovan military. Their mission: to retrieve any information on the mutagen that they could. Their search of the destroyed facility left them nearly empty-handed. They were able to make out with a few vaccines to the mutagen and the names of the initial test subjects, but not much else. After the semi-success of their first task, their employer had given them a new objective: find the initial test-subjects of the mutagen, bring them to him. The PMCs began their mission, searching the Transland far and wide.
Zenith is a mercenary army with one thing on their mind: money. They have been hired by an anonymous client to carry out a mission, and they intend to do just that. They require their employers give them “creative freedom” in their missions, and pay great sums of money for their services. As their motto goes: “Quality comes at a price.”
The army has been around for nearly a decade. It was formed by the former general of the Hoenn military, who lost his position for his corrupt policies. It has since become a refuge for the ex-special forces who felt the need to either return to a militaristic job or felt that the national military wasn’t profitable enough for them. To the general public, they are no more than an urban legend. Their services are kept confidential at all times. The few that have dared to break the vow of secrecy have all been murdered within the week that they had squealed. To match their secrecy, it is required that no member has their full face showing in combat. They must cover it with something such as a scarf, gas mask, or balaclava.
As an army of PMCs, Zenith will do whatever it takes to complete their mission within the boundaries set by their clients. They have no issues killing civilians, taking or destroying people’s property, or breaking common ethics to get their job done. Their military strength consists of medium to high tech military weaponry, helicopters, APCs, and other transport vehicles such as trucks, humvees, and such.
For this mission, Zenith’s objective is to take the initial Pokemorphs and anybody involved in said experiments alive. Their only parameter being that they are to avoid any direct contact with the Unovan military forces
In addition, Zenith players must start as humans, but may become Pokemorphs if infected (see the section having to do with the topic of infection for details).
Zenith players can choose from a variety of classes. Each character may have one class.
Contractor - The backbone of Zenith’s military force, contractors are basic soldiers equipped with medium body armor and trained to use standard combat weaponry such as assault rifles and carbines. All contractors are trained to be combat life-savers, and can provide medical attention to their teammates.
Harbinger - The eyes and ears of Zenith, harbingers are tasked with finding the enemy so that the more combat-oriented mercenaries may take them out. Scouts are given light or medium body armor, trained in stealth, and excel in the use of sniper rifles, DMRs, SMGs, and PDWs,
Cutthroat - Tasked with putting fear into the hearts of their enemies, these juggernauts are equipped with heavy body armor and often carry LMGs, shotguns, or flamethrowers.
Pioneer - Pioneers are the handymen of Zenith, and are tasked with building and repairing forward structures, repairing vehicles, destroying enemy vehicles, and destroying structures. Pioneers often carry carbines, SMGs, PDWs, or shotguns for defense against infantry, explosives, a toolkit, and rocket launchers to combat vehicles.
Also, if there’s any confusion as to what weapons fall under each category, just ask me. For example, a lot of video games call various carbines and PDWs SMGs, so I suggest that you ask me for clarification on what’s what. Just because Call of Duty says that something’s an SMG doesn’t mean that it’s an SMG. There’s actually a good chance that it’s a PDW.
There are five surviving test subjects of the Pokemorph experiment, each unaware that they are being hunted down by Zenith. The test subjects are all civilians, having no military experience whatsoever. Despite this, they are far from defenseless. The subjects gain all the benefits and detriments Pokemorphs have. (There is a Pokemorph section, look at that for more information pertaining what they can do)
- Test subjects must be active, and stay active. They are important to the plot of the RP.
- In case you didn’t get the memo, all test subjects start out as Pokemorphs, and cannot be infected.
Many civilians have been dragged into the mess after the reactor at the P2 complex failed. So far, few have been transformed by the infected air, but they are the most susceptible to infection. All civilian players are aligned with the test subjects. As to why, that’s up to you. Get creative. Perhaps you knew each other back in the day (if that’s the case, get permission from the other player).
Pokemorphs are a big part of this RP, and this section is to clarify some confusion as to what they are, and how they work. In a nutshell, Pokemorphs are anthropomorphic Pokemon. They stand on two legs, and retain the basics of human anatomy. The main differences being that depending on their species, will have snouts, fur, feathers, tails, and so on. Pokemorphs wear clothing, just as humans do. Of course, they may have altered their clothing for comfort, or their clothing may have been altered by the transformation itself.
Pokemorphs have access to all level-up and move tutor moves, and are affected by type advantages and disadvantages. For example, a fire-type Pokemorph would be weak to water-type moves, but they wouldn’t be hurt by plain tap water. In addition, all Pokemorphs can understand Pokespeech, and talk to their Pokemon.
Every human character is susceptible to being infected by the air in the Transland. Depending on which team you are a part of, your chance of infection will vary. If you are part of Zenith, the chance of being infected is only 5% each turn due to the various protective gear like gas masks and vaccines given to members of the facion. In contrast, if you are a civilian, your chance of being infected each turn is 50%.
Before each post, you will use random.org (I’ll provide a link) to chose a number from 1 to 100. Let’s say Joe Blow is a human civilian. Before his turn, he uses the random number generator to decide whether he transforms into a Pokemorph this turn. If he gets a number higher than 50, he remains as a human. But if he gets 50 or lower, he must transform into a Pokemorph within that post. Remember, you only have to use the randomizer if you are a human and when you are inside the Transland.
The transformation is permanent, and after transforming, you do not use the randomizer each turn.
- Primal and I are the GMs. We do our best to be friendly, but it helps a lot if you cooperate.
- All Serebii rules apply.
- No unauthorized bunnying.
- No godmodding.
- Try to limit OOC chat. There's a discussion thread for a reason.
- If you're waiting too long for someone to respond to your interaction with them, find a way to break off. It'll begin to halt the RP's progress if you don't.
