Rising painfully, you nod before the beaver gives a half-hearted smile and leads the way as you and Adam follow him.

The cave ahead seems to snake for a good few hundred metres before you find yourself looking down a small labyrinth of tunnels, and as your heart seems to dip, the Bibarel looks down a tunnel, beckoning you to continue to follow him. As you do, you notice the cave seems to be getting a little narrower as you carry onwards, the crystal you hold giving enough light to see a few feet ahead as you carry onwards. A couple of hours pass as you start to feel a little tired, before the beaver stops outside what seems to be a dead end as you feel your mood crash completely, Adam looking more than a little annoyed. Without a second thought, the Bibarel places a paw on one of the crystals, a hollow chime emanating from it before touching another one, producing a high-pitched chime, before tapping a few more crystals in a manner to make a small tune before a low rumble seems to make your stomach lurch, before it too grumbles in hunger as you realise that you haven’t eaten in a while as Bibarel braces itself for something...

...and the floor you stand on opens up, as the three of you fall down into a long crystal pipe, the beaver seemingly chuckling at the trip before you land comfortably on the floor below, in a rather large chamber. Gazing around in amazement, you see many Pokémon toiling at the walls with the same crystal as you hold, before the Bibarel points you towards an opening as he leads you to another fairly large room, and you come face to face with the most terrifying Luxray you have ever seen, his mane literally sparking with electricity and his eyes in a perpetual glower as he sits beside a rather cheerful-looking Slowking, who rises from his seat.

“Welcome to our realm, traveller. It is a humble place where we keep our worth, and where we wonder exactly what ended our lives in a sudden manner.”

Your eyes rip wide open at the last remark as you and Adam stare at each other in bewilderment: You coudn’t possibly be dead, can you? You panic as you put your hand to your wrist to feel for a pulse, and almost faint from sheer horror when you feel nothing at all.

“I imagine you wonder what keeps you here instead of the world of the deceased, traveller. As fate would have it, this series of caves extends a great distance underneath the Laguna Peninsula, and this crystal has the mystical properties of a life support: Without it, we die, with it, we continue to live. I understand if you are somewhat shocked by these events, but I assure you that you are as dead as we are, and that we exist only thanks to these crystals. If you wish, we may discuss what we do here, and perhaps you may aid us in the way that humans are able to perform acts us Pokémon are incapable of. My accomplice Quasar here will guide you to a room where you can stay for some time, as a sort of accustoming while he can answer your questions.”

As the Luxray steps forward and nods, you follow him through the tunnels while the Bibarel from before heads to a small emerald and places his hand on it as Quasar takes you through to a somewhat small room with a bench and bed, before sitting by the bed and looking at you almost quizzically. If the Slowking’s words are true then you and Adam should be dead, yet you are still walking pretty much alive. As you look into the Luxray’s eyes, however, you notice them to be empty instead of full of life, and as you hold your head in confusion, a low voice from Quasar catches your attention.

“There is a crystal rumoured to exist in these caves with the power to restore life to those who have been lost. If you wish to see the light of day again, then we must work together to find it. As Velos has stated, I am here to answer your questions about these events.”

    What will you do?
Sorry about the long delay on a response here, business as usual...
As Arcanum rose from his fall, he heard his Trapinch chuckling at him from a distance. With how much pain he was currently experiencing, Arcanum didn't take very kindly to the sadistic laughter emitted from Adam's mouth. Adam on the other hand had laughed only because he no longer needed to worry, seeing that his trainer had woken up. The crystal didn't give off very much light, but it ended up being plenty for the entire trip. The Bibarel gave a small weak smile of encouragement and turned around. Adam and Arcanum followed him carefully... Arcanum didn't trust the Bibarel as much as Adam did.

The tunnels the trio walked in seemed to go on forever and ever and ever... and it didn't take long for Arcanum and Adam to lose some of their enthusiasm. The tunnels would wind back and forth, every once in a while split off, and scariest of all the walls seemed to tighten in on them as they continued, as if the tunnels' architects started to get tired as they were digging them. Arcanum wondered for a while about this last detail, who in their right mind would dig such a long tunnel? As he continued, quite a few questions appeared in his mind, like why the crystals glowed, and how in the world Adam and Arcanum had ended up in such a weird labyrinth of tunnels when they had just been on the beach. As the tunnels continued, Arcanum began to dislike the Bibarel in front of them greatly. It seemed to know where it was going, always taking paths without a second thought, but where in the world were they being led? He didn't like having to be so trusting without any knowledge of what was going on. The small crystal gave off just enough light to see the Bibarel's silhouette in front of them, and then suddenly the silhouette stopped and the exhausted trainer and his exhausted Trapinch caught up to it. There were quite a few more crystals at this dead end, which the Bibarel began to touch in a very intentional order, each one giving a mystical chime as they glowed more intensely for a moment. Once every stone had been touched, the Bibarel turned around and the ground began to shake violently. Then it was Arcanum's stomach's turn to shake... he was starting to get very hungry. What he was really craving right now was a peanut butter and pepperoni sandwich... he hadn't had one of those since he left his house a week ago. Bibarel seemed to be making a strange position with his body, like he was about to jump. Arcanum looked at him strangely, but as the ground let out beneath him he realized he was now the one who looked a bit foolish.

A large crystal pipe now escorted them downwards further at a rapid pace. Also notable was the inability to return. As the Bibarel chuckled, Arcanum decided if he got the chance to do it he was going to defeat the Bibarel, who he now loathed intensely. These thoughts were forgotten as he was lightly ejected from the pipe into a large chamber. Pokemon lined the walls, working with the crystals sticking out from them. As Arcanum wondered what they were all doing, the fat, ugly beaver rudely directed them towards an opening. Adam took a few moments to notice his trainer had continued without him, as he had been gazing around the large room as well. The next room featured a Luxray more terrifying than any pictures Arcanum had ever seen.

And then a Slowking rose from its seat and spoke the gravest words the young trainer had heard since the day his mother had to sobbingly tell him his father had died. His hand raced across his body to his other wrist to feel for a pulse, but he didn't feel any. Mom's gonna kill me if she finds out I died! Arcanum thought, not realizing the ridiculousness of the idea. As the Slowking continued to "speak," Arcanum began to understand why he still felt quite alive and a part of the material world. But he got so many more questions as a result.

As Quasar, the Luxray he'd first seen, led Arcanum and Adam in to yet another room, where the two of them had been instructed to stay for a while, he was told of the rumor of a crystal that had enough power to restore life to all those who had been lost. As he sat down on his bed, Arcanum exploded with questions on Quasar:

"Ok, so, here are the things I wanna know. First of all, how are we deceased and still here, how do these little crystals keep us alive? Can we leave these tunnels? Why did we end up here instead of in heaven or hell, and how did we end up here at all? What did Velos mean by 'things humans can do that pokemon can't'? Obviously you guys can talk, how did you learn how to do that? What about the crystal that can save us all, do we have any leads? Is there any way to know whether we're close to it or not? What are the conditions of our pseudo-deceased state? Do we have to sleep? What about the light coming from the crystals, how does it work? How and when can we start working on finding the crystal? What about my other pokemon, are they all ok? And what do I need to do to get some food around here? I'm starving!

And then there was a long pause. Adam looked a bit concerned at Arcanum's frustration, but instead of making any kind of noise decided it best to stay out of his way and let Arcanum get it all out. Arcanum peered deep in to the Luxray's empty eyes, eager to hear the low voice provide some much sought after answers.

Protests were held during the dam construction over the fact that it has submerged a historic ruin, which can still be seen from the surface, and although a few people have went down to the ruins, none have ever came back. Some of Volcanity Inc.'s employees hold diving trips into the reservoir for maintenance checks, so if you were on their good side, they may loan you some of their high-tech equipment so you may explore the depths.
The view was unbeaten, a towering blockade obstructing the entirety of the horizon, gushing tones of hydro from its many cavities. Flooding with godly might, the colossal dam made its presence known through the entirety of Laguna with its deafening downpour of high-pressure currents. Trailing from one of these outlets was none other than the Ohm Reservoir. The soothing torrent whistled through a young trainer’s ears as he shimmied athwart the rim of the enthralling canal. Water had always enthralled the adolescent; its transparent hue, its cooling touch, the fresh scent of nature it wafted throughout its ambiance. This river in particular glowed with an uncanny electric feel, something which particularly sparked the kid’s curiosity. Surely the damn was emitting its own excess of energy into the fresh-water lakes he stood before.

Sporting merely a pair of tattered sandals, navy swim-shorts and a short sleeved shirt, Wes ambled merely across the banks of bustling river. In tow of the tranquil trainer stood his hardy croc companion, the brutish Crocodile occasionally tasting his lips as the occasional carp jetted down the river. Brawly would surely love nothing better than to rest upon the beds of the pool with baited breath, eagerly eyeing up the many Magikarp that would leer to close to his keep. Nonetheless, the laboratory honed by Volcanity Inc. piqued Wes’ interest far more than a relaxing bathe in the stimulating reservoir. He’d only recently had an astonishing run-in with the institute, one of which he’d undoubtedly remember for the rest of his days. Planting several structures across the fast land of Fizzy Bubbles, the insane group of biologists attracting danger far and wide… Recalling various mental images of the escapade at Adventure Island, Wes took a heavy gulp as he contemplated his decisions. Even a tourist hotspot like Laguna could be perilous with the presence of Volcanity.

“Keep up Brawly!” Wes yelled behind. Brawly seemed dejected though, it’d been too long since he’d had a relaxing bathe, a quandary which most trainers came across with a multitude of water types. His scales had become dryer and dehydrated - the arid backdrops he’d been exposed to taking their toll. Brawly protested as he occasionally sampled the clear water with his tail.

“Patience, the sooner I can get me a scuba-suit, the sooner we can go exploring, kay?” Brawly merely sighed impatiently, his nasty grimace only amplifying his clear distaste of the plan. Wes grinned at the outburst, it’d become all too familiar for the young trainer…

Having paced beside the tributary for an awful long time, Wes started to doubt the brochure he’d recently skimmed through. His legs were aching as sweat drew across his forehead. Lunging into the reservoir was becoming ever more tempting at this point. Nonetheless, his fatigue was quickly rewarded as a pristine architect jutted out toward the horizon. Frantic for his scuba-adventure, Wes upped his pace to a quick sprint as Brawly amply scampered in tow.

“Glad to have ye on board, Katsu! Unusual name, that, but ye’re likely thinking the same about my missing arm, eh?”

As you, Andrew and your Pokémon head into the shack, you find yourself looking around and your eyes befall a photo of him and a large sea serpent with a rather sheepish grin plastered on its chops as Andrew fiddles with a small radio.

“Aye, I lost my arm in an accident at sea, when my old boat ran into a mine left over by a war several decades ago. I thought I were a goner, until Goose came along. That Gyarados saved me, for sure, and e’er since we’ve been good mateys, aye. Glen here was me starter, and that Machoke over there is Hugh, while this wee birdie on me shoulder be Henry.”

As he introduces you to his Pokémon, his story keeping you interested, he gives a grin as the radio crackles to life.

“Andrew here, what be the problem exactly?”

This is Ampere Beach Shore Watch. We’ve had reports of a group of Mantine becoming stuck in a bay nearby, with some Tentacruel on guard trying to keep them in. We need you to head off and help the Mantine out, and also to guide the Tentacruel back to their nesting waters.

    “Loud and clear. Andrew out.”

As he turns to you, he gives a thumbs-up before pointing you in the direction of a pier in the distance, which you assume is where his boat is moored. As the two of you leave, you hear a scream from further down the beach and as Andrew gives a nervous gulp, you follow suit. The problem is not the fact that there’s an Octillery on the beach, but the fact that its tentacles are at least ten feet long and its mouth is spitting Water Guns that seem about as strong as Hydro Pumps.

“Well, I’d say the Mantine might have to wait a bit, eh? This big octopus looks as though it’s scaring the tourists a little. I guess it’s best for us to try and stop ‘im, Katsu?”

With the local area cleaned out with a few stray rods on the water, the giant Octillery turns his head your way with a bored look, seeming to pick a fight as it flexes its large tentacles, and it appears that you’ll have to take him down if you’re going to get to rescuing the Mantine.
"Saved by a Gyarados of all things... I guess exceptions exist among even the fiercest of Pokemon"., Katsu thought, after having heard Andrew's story. It was a bit of an ironic twist, as that very Pokemon had been one of his initial guesses as to what was responsible for the sailor's missing arm. As for Kiba and Flandre, they seemed to be of sounder mind after having learned why Andrew looked the way he did. However, they had grown a bit antsy with the thought of getting to go on a boat ride still on their minds, and as a result, were the first ones out the door once Andrew had received his briefing from the local shore watch. It was only a moment later that Flandre seemed to have seen something interesting on the beach, as she pointed at whatever it was, accompanying her action with an excited exclamation of "Char!". Kiba didn't seem to share her feelings, though, as he was looking quite worried by whatever was out there.

Curious as to what it was his Pokemon were looking at, Katsu walked out of the shack with Andrew, only to see an Octillery of monstrous proportions stirring up a commotion among the beach goers.

“Well, I’d say the Mantine might have to wait a bit, eh? This big octopus looks as though it’s scaring the tourists a little. I guess it’s best for us to try and stop ‘im, Katsu?”, Andrew suggested.

"I think a little is a bit of an understatement...", Katsu thought, having noticed how quickly the section of the beach the Octillery was occupying had been vacated. It had turned to face him and the others, and started to flex its tentacles in a showy fashion, looking as though it were picking a fight. Kiba had already stepped forward, aware of what his trainer was most likely going to ask of him, as had Flandre, who's excitement stemmed from a desire to battle. Her hopes were soon quashed, however, as Katsu hastily scooped her into his arms, knowing it would be downright suicidal for her to go up against such an opponent. "Sorry, but I think it would be best for you sit this one out. A water Pokemon like that Octillery is hardly the ideal opponent for a fire type like you.", Katsu said in a correcting tone to the overconfident Charmander, who pouted out of frustration, but was obedient nonetheless. He then turned to Kiba and issued his commands.

"Kiba, I want to you to surround that Octillery with your Double Team, then give it a Shock Wave followed by a Thunderbolt."

After a moment of hesitation, Kiba nodded his head, then sped towards the octopus, leaving a cloud of sand and a shower of sparks in his wake. Even though the Electrike had an obvious type advantage, Katsu felt that the sheer size of his foe was likely going to make things rough, even with assistance from Andrew and his Pokemon...

Noticing the Probopass already relatively clean, you find yourself knocked off your feet as the ground beneath you juts up, yet still out of tantalising reach as the Nose Pokémon’s eyes start to flare a little before it speaks in its eerie voice once more.

“I SEE IT’LL HAVE TO BE THE HARD WAY, AS USUAL. VERY WELL, PREPARE FOR YOUR INCARCERATION!”

As you watch the rock type floating mysteriously, you notice several small orbs of energy flow from the mini-noses before the magnetic properties of them send them screaming into the plateau you and Skarsvalg stand on before bursting like cluster bomblets as the ground beneath you trembles and collapses a little beneath the barrage as the Probopass’ eyes light up at the chaos before he starts crackling with abnormal emerald electricity, forming a cannonball of lightning before firing it forwards at the damaged plateau and you can only watch in horror as the explosion causes tendrils of the electricity to snare around the vicinity, zapping you as you feel your arm lock up in numbing paralysis as Skarsvalg looks at you in surprise before leering towards the Probopass.

“YOU STILL HAVE A CHANCE TO SURRENDER, HUMAN, AND I SHALL OVERLOOK THIS TRANSGRESSION YOU HAVE HAD. IT MAY EVEN AID YOU SHOULD THE EMPEROR...”

As you watch in some curiosity, the Probopass stops talking and the hat rises slightly as the eyes of the nose Pokémon close as it seems to receive a message through mystical telepathy, before slamming the hat down once more and turning to you and SKarsvalg once more.

“HUMAN! IT APPEARS AS THOUGH EMPEROR TESLA REQUESTS AN AUDIENCE WITH YOU. I HAVE ORDERS TO TAKE YOU TO HIM< CONSIOUS OR NOT. IT WOULD BE FAVOURABLE FOR YOU TO ACCOMPANY ME TO HIM, AS ONE WOULD IMAGINE.”

As the Probopass looks at you with a stern look, the mini-noses crackle with eth same supernatural electricity as before, obviously preparing an attack if you show resistance. However, the prospect of meeting the one presumably in charge of the local area may be a tempting offer...
Centin let out his hand, in a futile attempt to call out his whiscash and wanted to launch an order. After a few seconds in the air, his hand fell to the grounds. Again he tried but to no avail. His energy source was depleted, and there was so little he could do now. His visions were not blurred, and the situation was still clearly understood. His whiscash which was bouncing around, wanted to hurry to its trainer, but was afraid to do so as the probopass might launch an attack from behind its back.

Within a few gruelling seconds on the ground, Centin made a firm decision. For a strange reason, Centin was able to speak out his mind, "I...will meet Emperor Tesla." Whatever happens next, his whiscash would gladly protect him by its side, ready to strike another magnitude if it had to. It now had the courage to flop its trainer, and enclosed him to safety with its large fins, and began hissing at the probopass slightly.

I'd like to welcome Empoleon Dynamite to my group, bringing it up to my planned original cap of seven, and to be fair on other zones, you may not hop onto the LP bandwagon until a spot becomes free.

    Ampere Beach

Shadow: As you turn to the man and start to explain things, the man’s relatively stern appearance continues to plaster across his face, yet as you explain things his mouth slowly cracks to give a small smile and by the time you’ve finished, the man has a rather awkward grin on his face that seems to exude amusement and interest in one bundle. As you wonder to his reaction, a familiar cry is heard as Zapster stands on his feet, still rather tired from the battle but sporting a bandage over the bit shoulder as you wonder where exactly the boy known as Jason had procured them as the Thunderbolt Pokémon returns to your side as the man gives a rather jovial laugh, much in the spirit of a sailor.

“Haa, I bet you wondered how he got his Starmie, eh? It just so happens that me and Jason run a small cruising system in the area, and that Starmie there is one of the Pokémon bred in the area by me. I guess I owe you some thanks, lad, but I didn’t catch your name. Mine’s Alberto, before you ask.”

With introductions by, you and your Pokémon find themselves at a large bay after an hours’ walk, where you see a large number of water Pokémon, as well as a few smaller vessels in the vicinity. Studying the water, you notice the familiar glow of a few Staryu in the depths, as well as several other assorted water Pokémon, such as Chinchou and Tentacruel, and as you think about how to reach them, Alberto gives a whistle for your attention.

“Shadow, you look like a thoughtful young man who has seen travel, so I feel a little humbled to ask of a favour from you. Lately there have been a few poachers in these waters, trafficking the Pokémon from the local area elsewhere for some devious deeds, and we’ve had to step up the security in the area. I ask of you to go with Jason on a small patrol of a suspected hideaway for a group of these poachers and to report anything you see back. Naturally, I’ll easily let you have rights to one of the Pokémon in these waters if you help me out here, as the business is hurting from these fiends.”

With Alberto’s intentions delved, it seems a good offer to help him out, especially if it means your mission of attaining a Staryu will be realised, yet there is the natural danger from a mission of this magnitude.

    What will you do?

Arcanum: OOC: Just to note, Quasar is the Luxray and Velos is the Slowking. Just a little something to get off me chest, nothing urgent.

BIC: The shock of discovering your death is nothing compared to the questions flooding through your mind as you fire off a bombardment of questions so fiercely that even a Golem’s hide would crack. As you wait somewhat distraught, Quasar nods before taking a rather deep breath and countering with his tide of answers.

“To take your questions one by one as far as we know ourselves...we are kept alive by the crystals due to a mysterious energy they resonate, much like an Everstone. As you will know, everstones contain the evolution energy of a Pokémon stored in the Pokémon, preventing evolution. In the same way, these crystals work in much of the same way in that they keep our souls tied to our bodies even though they have been released. Without the stones, the soul escapes and death takes over the body. We are almost confined to these tunnels because the core of the energy is located here: As one ventures further from the core, they feel less alive until they reach such a distance that they simply drop dead due to the lack of energy. As for our location here, that is something even Velos doesn’t know, and indeed, we are unsure how we reached here. My death itself was from an avalanche from an explosion in the Energos Quarry, though I am sure my son survived...” the Luxray states sadly before pausing for breath. “Humans are much more tactical and capable of solving puzzles and probems we Pokémon can’t, not to mention you do possess opposable thumbs, heh. Under regular circumstances, you will be right, we Pokémon cannot talk due to limitations in our bodies, yet it seems that in this state of undeath, if you wish to put it, we can indeed speak any language we can. Perhaps it is to do with the state of being we are in.”

“As for our lead for the crystal, Velos has found a scripture about an object known as the Tear of Jirachi, a crystal capable of fulfilling the wish of anyone who touches it, located somewhere within the safe zone of the core. As for where it is, we have an idea of which tunnel it lies in, yet we need your help, youngster to reach it, for there seems to be no way through for any Pokémon. In our pseudo-deceased state as you put it, we are as alive as we feel, and feel pain equally, except for those who go as far from the core that their soul’s natural urge to exit the body is too great to be resisted. As before, the light from the crystals works much like that of everstones in that it suppresses the soul’s urge to escape the host. As for your other Pokémon, it would be without a doubt that within their storage devices they will have survived, and indeed the crystal’s energy will make them feel much more active, such is the power of the crystal.”

“As for the last two queries, well, we shall start searching when you are ready and rested up, as this has been rather traumatic for you. You may feed your Pokémon as well, as we’ve enough food, for the crystal provides...”

As the Flash Pokémon finished talking, you notice a rather large bowl filled with several berries as your stomach growls at the food, provoking a chuckle from the Luxray as he heads for the door before turning his head towards you.

“It would be wise to explain the situation to your team so that they do not freak out at the thought of their owner and friend being dead. When you’re rested, come to see me and Velos, and we shall discuss the details of finidng the Tear.”

As you are left to your own devices, your stomach ROARS rather loudly before Adam too gives a gurgle of hunger as the two of you laugh amongst yourselves at the rebellious bellies, and it would seem best to live unlife while you have it, for when the time comes, you will be risking your right to exist in this world for a chance at life on the surface once more.

    S.S Lanturn Wreck

Lilblue: Noticing the rapidly approaching dragon and insect, you give urgent orders to your active Pokémon to try and slow the larger of the two down while the cultists deter the Scyther. As Custard notes the dragon, he starts to flap at high speeds before diving down in a quick attack before striking the back of the Garchomp as it grunts, yet still ignores the attack as he makes a beeline for the rig, which has risen half a foot. As you feel a wind blow above you, the Scyther above completes its swords dance, his blades gleaming with the intent to slice and dice you and Tessie, only for it to suddenly dart out of the way of a sudden zap of electricity as it turns its attention to the deck, where a sudden burst of taunting from what seems to be a raichu inflames the bug as it charges onto the liner itself, ignoring you as Haruki fires a stream of bubbles at the rapidly approaching Garchomp, the beam of projectiles popping against it slowing it down but still not enough as it callously rams into the Corsola, sending her bobbing across the water painfully as the dragon shakes his head from the recoil of the take down, just as Custard gets in front of it and blows forth a chilly wind that causes the beast to roar in pain as the icy properties of the attack run riot all over his draconic affinity, and as the beast shivers, the Delibird slams into it with a steel wing, the beast grunting before giving a nasty grin and striking Custard with a vicious torrent of fire, the surprise flamethrower scorching the Delibird and making him squawk in pain as he flaps awkwardly back, wincing with every flap as his wings bear the signs of burning.

It is the distraction that Haruki needed to fire her confuse ray at the beast, the mystical properties of the laser suddenly making the Garchomp unsure of what it was supposed to be doing as it scratches its head with its claw before staring in Haruki’s direction and swimming over to her before biting her softly and tossing her gently into the air like a ball, batting her with his claws to keep her up in his stupor as the Corsola squeaks at every strike, blatantly unimpressed with her being used as a toy to keep the monster distracted, and as you look down again, you see the rig is halfway there, happily out of the dragon’s reach...

...which is when the pained screech of the Scyther being smacked by something clearly incredibly powerful takes your attention as the bug is sent unceremoniously flying into the trawler, which is being rowed by a pair of Machoke frowning at your performance, and as the bashed insect’s cry gets the Garchomp’s attention, Haruki lands rather hard on his head, making him hiss in pain and knocking him out of his state! Glaring at the Corsola, who seems a little bashed, the Garchomp swiftly infuses his claw with draconic energy before swinging it at Haruki, knocking her flying into Custard who fails to notice the Coral Pokémon heading his way and sending them both into the drink rather dazed from the impact and in some pain as they separate before searching for their foe before a shadow appears over them as you gasp in shock as the dragon takes flight from the waters! Flying round, the Mach Pokémon spews forth another flamethrower, but Bobble is quick to erect a safeguard around you and Tessie as it roars angrily, and you find yourself against a rather irate dragon out of the water with your two Pokémon several metres below, and it seems the battle is far from over as you realise you are merely a couple of minutes from safety...

    Ohm Reservoir

Empy: Your visit to Laguna Peninsula has you at the Ohm Reservoir not for enjoyment of the beaches, but rather the exploration of the waters and ruins under the reservoir, which was run by a company you are familiar with, what with you recently having an adventure you’ll never forget at Adventure Island. As Brawly becomes impatient with you, wishing to simply head into the waters for a swim, you notice a building ahead that seemed to be the reason you came here: To find some gear suitable for underwater adventures. As you sprint towards the building, the familiar sign of Volcanity Inc is displayed on a plaque beside it as you enter the building.

Ahead of you are a few men and a receptionist who seems to be idly typing at a computer as you head to the desk, before she greets you and asks about your visit. As you explain your previous encounter and history with the group, she types on the computer searching for details and gives a small gasp as she picks up the phone nearby and talks to someone on it, before nodding a few times and placing it down before turning to you.

“Sorry about the delay, Master Wes. Under regular circumstances, we wouldn’t let anyone borrow our scuba gear due to the fact that nobody from the expeditions have came back...but our records here state that you have helped us before, and it falls in the interests of our Laguna branch of operations that our managing director has called for a personal meeting with you. If you’d like to take the elevator up, you can discuss these matters with him.”

    -=-=-

An elevator ride and irritating advertisements at how their Adventure Island Safari Park is the park to visit for a relaxing trip, far from the adventure you have had, you find yourself in a high-class suite with a man sporting a small beard as you gives your hand a small shake.

“My welcomes to the Laguna branch of Volcanity Inc, Wes. As you know, I am the managing director of this branch of Volcanity, and therefore many of our major interests of the waters here come through me. I apologise for this short noticed meeting, but better now than never, yes?”

Looking around the furnished suite, you notice a small plaque with the name L. Braunhurst inscribed on it as Braunhurst flicks into a filing cabinet and hands you a small document.

“We have heard from what happened at Adventure Island, and I give you my thanks for helping the fossil situation be controlled. Of course, I have also heard about your friend Zak’s help in those endeavours as well, yet it is you who has came here. I’ll get to the gist: There are ruins submerged under these waters in this reservoir, and although we have sent some of our explorers in, none have returned,” Braunhurst states with a note of sorrow. “Having heard from our Volcanic Mountain branch, we have news that your endeavours are outstanding, and so I am giving you an offer here: I want you to head into the ruins and to explore them. Naturally we’ll give you our state-of-the-art scube gear as well as a few other objects that will help you, but the general idea is that we have no idea what lies within those ruins, and wish to find out in the name of our research. Of course, you’ll be rewarded for it generously.”

Braunhurst certainly has an interesting proposition for you, and an adventure underwater sounds exhilarating, in spite of the unknown dangers.

    What will you do?

Having temporarily retrieved his companions back to their residential orbs for some rest, once enough had been seen, Shadow listened attentively to Alberto's proposal. At this point it seemed that obtaining a Staryu was but a quick mission away: a reconnaissance task to investigate some local thieving buccaneers. Though his experience in the realms of Fizzy Bubbles often proved that things were never so simple, the scientific lad had progressed considerably in those early times. Where he had a motley team of five or six, he now had a respectable crew of highly capable operatives, able to hold their own in single combat and perform excellently in their specialised fields. Even in a worst-case scenario Shadow felt sure he could figure something out to ensure they all escaped in one piece.

"Sounds like a deal, Alberto," replied Shadow. "I'll only be glad to help you in investigating and apprehending of these poachers, and I daresay Jason will be a great help as well. Perhaps we could discuss the relevant details, talk over what information and plans you have? I think it would be best if we were fully prepared as much as we can, so we have some idea of what we might be dealing with."

“Lucrece! Attack them with Swift and your own Shock Waves!”

As the Murkrow dive at your Pokémon, their beaks aglow with energy ready to peck your team to pieces, a sudden barrage of stars spike into them as the Persian, going by the name of Lucrece, launches a swift manoeuvre at them, several of them squawking painfully as they are pelted by the stars with surprising force just before getting shocked by Idrial’s wave attack. As they regain their composure, you look up to see the crows above you, circling dangerously close to you with their wings outspread, before one of them breaks off and rams into you and the woman, the wing attack knocking you to the ground as Idrial turns at your pained shout and immediately releases a chilling gust of icy wind towards the birds, the sextet giving an alarmed screech as they crash down, their wings chilled as they get up groaning and littering the area.

As Java turns to the Big Boss Pokémon, he unleashes a thunderbolt towards it as the Honchkrow grunts in pain from the zapping, before breathing out a wave of heated air, Java gritting his teeth at the fiery move before looking up and being knocked several feet through the air by the diving Honchkrow’s drill peck, landing heaviny on the concrete. Rising with determination, Java launches another thunderbolt, but is too slow as Honchkrow takes flight and avoids it before diving down for another attack, but Java is ready this time as his hands gathers chilling energy and he punches the crow in the beak, ice forming around the area of impact as the Honchkrow’s screech is muffled.

“Nice to meet you, Amras, although not in the best situation...my name is Megan of the Watt family, and Lucrece there is my pride and joy, capable of holding her own pretty well against a Venusaur.”

As you meet your acquaintances, the Murkrow around you start to fly up, only to be knocked flat again by a shock wave coming from Lucrece, whose body shows signs of wear from the relentless specking by the Murkrow. The good news is that the six around you have been quelled, but there are still six circling around you, as well as the angered Honchkrow, who is glaring daggers at Java. As it flaps its wings in an unusual manner, Idrial suddenly comes under a painful assault from three of the Murkrow, their wing attacks knocking her back and forth while Lucrece whines from the barrage of attacks, but still holding strongly as Java rises. It seems that the gloves are officially off of these crows and they mean business.
Java and Idrial move smoothly into their tasks, Idrial blasting the Murkrow with a Shockwave and Icy Wind and keeping Amras relatively safe from the birds, considering a hurt arm is nothing. Java squares off with the Honchkrow, summoning electricity and blasting the giant bird as the duel, trading strong blows with each other. Java is able to Ice Punch Honchkrow after a vicious combo from Honchkrow, giving Amras an opportunity to meet the lady he's helping. Noticing the amout of triaining Megan Watt had given her Persian, Lucrece, Amras smiled to himself, glad to see another Trainer that loved their Pokemon as much as he himself did. Attention returning to the battle at hand, Amras flinches as Idrial is battered around, and feels a deep sadness that he is forced to see his Pokemon in pain.

"Idrial, you're doing great! Make a Wish that'll help us soon, then use Psychic to grab an overturned stall and smack the six Murkrow around with it! Finish with another Shockwave!

"Doin sweet, Java! Use your superior speed and the fact that the ice on Honchkrow's beak will slow it down a bit to your advantage! Blast it with a close range Thunder, then follow up with a Volt Tackle!"

Arcanum listened intently to Quasar as the Luxray did its best to shed some light on Arcanum's lengthy list of questions. Quasar was understanding well how traumatic this had been for he and Adam, but of course the Luxray had also endured a tragic death and at least Arcanum was lucky enough to know what came of his friends. The Luxray chuckled to himself at Arcanum's facial and audible reactions to noticing the bowl full of berries, and then advised him a moment further before exiting altogether. Arcanum and Adam's stomachs rumble immensely at that point, and after a quick chuckle from each of them, Arcanum pulled from his pockets the remaining 4 pokéballs he had in his posession. Over the next half minute the shapes of a Nincada, Caterpie, Horsea, and Sableye appeared next to Trapinch.

"Hey guys," Arcanum said, "We have a place to stay for a while, and they have provided us with plenty to eat. I have some very important things to discuss with you all afterwards, but for now, I know we're all crazy hungry, so let's eat!" The large bowl of food didn't seem nearly as large when 6 mouths were being fed, but there was plenty to fill the trainer and his team for now. At one point during the meal, which was being devoured far too quickly, Arcanum began making a strange choking noise. As he gagged on the berry he had foolishly tried to swallow whole, a host of pokémon noises came from the five of them. Or rather the four, as Adam shouted in concern, "Are you ok? Arcanum, try to spit it out!" Arcanum continued to gag for a few moments more before coughing the berry out on the floor, but by that time the meal had already come to a screeching halt. Adam had spoken, and even though it surprised Arcanum the first time it happened, the other four pokémon in the room were too inquisitive now to continue eating - they wanted to know what was happening.

Arcanum sighed deeply, then said, "I guess you can speak now, huh Adam?" His Trapinch nodded, afraid to speak again and cause any more awkwardness in the room. "Well, it's time to tell you guys what I needed to say, as I doubt any of you will continue eating without knowing how Adam is able to speak in human tongue. If any of you have questions, please direct them to Adam as he can now in English relay them to me. I'll try to explain first of all. When we arrived and were resting on the beach, a great tidal wave came over us and knocked us out completely. When we woke up we found ourselves in this network of tunnels. The pokémon here in the tunnels can speak and depend on crystals to remain here. The truth of the matter is, we have in a way died, and we need to find a special crystal called Jirachi's Tear in order to return to the surface. Because Adam and I should have died, we are bound to these tunnels. The rest of you, as Quasar said, are not at all dead, and so can not speak like Adam can. We are to rest up for a while, and then we're going to try to help Quasar the Luxray and Velos the Slowking find Jirachi's Tear so we can all return to the surface and live normally again. So, any questions?"

Arcanum instantly empathized with Luxray as a wave of sound hit his ears as well, and Adam said very authoritatively, "Silence! Geez, I can't hear you when you all speak at once!" The four quieted down, and Adam continued to answer the questions his own way without relaying them to Arcanum as he had previously asked, "We don't know very much about the Tear of Jirachi, we'll have to learn more about it when we go and talk to Velos and Quasar, and for now let's just eat and rest.

Arcanum was stunned, but he didn't interrupt or reprimand Adam for taking control. He almost appreciated not having to explain anything else to the living pokémon. After all, there was only so much more he could say about their current condition until his own knowledge had been exceeded. The rest of the meal continued in silence, and at the end Arcanum took off his still soggy shoes and crawled in to bed. His other pokémon used the chairs or crawled in to bed next to Arcanum. Lyre, his Nincada, was the one to nudge him awake the next morning. Or at least he assumed it was morning, since it was difficult to tell in the dark. Adam spoke from his other side, "You've been sleeping far longer than the rest of us, it must be early afternoon by now outside." Arcanum responded, "Really? Sorry guys, I guess I'm still recovering from dying... it takes a toll y'know?" The pokémon didn't respond positively to Arcanum's morbid jest, and he smiled grimly in response. "Are you guys ready to talk to Velos and see what we can get started doing?" The 5 of them all gave their own indications that they were ready to get on with it, and Arcanum slipped out of bed on the side, forcing Lyre and Caterpie to bounce down gently to the floor. Arcanum touched his foot to the inside of his shoe before deciding the dirt floor was more pleasant than the cold, wet alternative. Followed by his five companions, he retraced the path to where Velos sat and with his eyes still shut and his hair in chaotic disarray, grumbled the statement, "We're ready to start looking for the Tear of Jirachi, how should we start?"

Amras: With the battlefield certainly set, and injuries on all sides, you give some encouragement to your Pokémon as the battle heats up. Idrial, noting the situation, wishes for aid from above as two of the Murkrow dive and peck at her, but she pays no heed as her eyes glow cyan, much to the amusement of the birds; They’re dark types, no psychic attack can throw them around! Their cacophony of annoyance fades into a squawk of pain as Idrial simply complies to their puny taunts by swinging a nearby stall, long overturned and stained with squashed fruit, at the birds. Although four of the Murkrow flap out of range, the two attacking her aren’t so fortunate as they are bashed with the wooden object before the Gardevoir delivers the coup de grace by smashing it over their heads, edge down like a sword, cracking one of the bird’s skulls as blood oozes from it and it falls, a final groan of sorrow wheezing from the beak as it dies, much to the shock of Megan. The other Murkrow is merely struck down and KOed, and the sudden shock of it takes the attention of the Big Boss Pokémon as it furiously gawks from behind its frozen beak only for its body to spasm violently as the plume of thunder from Java smashes into it.

“Your Gardevoir...is certainly protective of you...” Megan whispers as you realise the slain Morkrow is the one which struck at you, just as a horrified gasp comes from her mouth as you turn to see Idrial suddenly come under relentless assault from the four Murkrow’s sudden night shade assault, the shadowy lightning piercing into her as she gives a psychokinetic scream of pain almost as though it was one of sorrow rather than pain, but she is saved by the sudden action of the panting Lucrece as a barrage of swift stars beans through the avian horde, getting their attention as two of then dive at the Persian, who nods towards Idrial as the pair crackle before unleashing a joint shock wave that jolts the birds, causing them to fall down as Idrial holds her head in pain: The sudden attack was draining on her, but as she looks forlorn at the birds, panting heavily, they stay down, smoke rising from two of them who were unlucky enough to be near the Gardevoir. Level up for Idrial.

At the shocking defeat of his minions, the Honchkrow turns to Java and fires off his own dark pulse, the drak rings smacking the Pikachu around as he cringes at the pain before charging electrical energy all over him. The bird flaps upwards, his claws alight with spiteful energies as it dives at the Pikachu, and delivers a raking night slash towards him just as he voltaically tackles the bird, causing a sudden blast of smoke to fill the square, making everyone cough as Megan shields herself, and as you watch with anticipation, the smoke clears to reveal Java and the Honchkrow lying down, as the two rise slowly...and then the Honchkrow gives a pained caw, the ice around him shattered as it falls flat on the ground, the hat tilted over the eyes. Level up for Java. As you watch, you notice more Murkrow flit down, obviously watching the battle and fear for the worst, only for the group to grip the fallen leader with their claws and to fly awkwardly into the sky, giving periodic squawks as they struggle with the weight to your slight amusement. What comical value it held was hastily dispelled by the devastation left behind.

Samuel’s stall was certainly still standing, yes, but much of the fish were stained a light brown with the dust, and already the stench of decay filled the vicinity as a few onlookers poked from behind fallen stalls as Java and Idrial, along with Lucrece, limp towards you, the Persian giving a disdained peek at the dead bird, before a small clap is heard. Shortly, the square is filled with applause as you and Megan take the aura of victory and she smiles before turning to a somewhat short man, who stares at the stall somewhat forlorn as you realise this must be the Samuel Megan spoke of. Seconds pass before he turns to the two of you and gives a cheerful grin as you both give a collective sigh of relief.

“You handled yourself rather well out there, Amras, I’m impressed. On that tangent, it seems our Pokémon could do with a bit of healing. Would you accompany me back to my family home? It’s the least I could do as thanks, to give you a little bit of help, as well as to question your appearing in this place, as convenient as it were.”

As you look at your battle-torn Pokémon, pride filling you, the offer of heading to the home of the ruling family seems a great reward, yet it could interfere slightly with your plans to explore the city.

Shadow: With the prospect of your obtaining the Staryu you visited for a high possibility, you agree to the deal to the acknowledgement of Alberto, knowing that your team of Pokémon is wide enough to manage the situation as you ask to discuss the plans they have, to which the pair nod to. A few minutes later the three of you are seated inside a rather comfy lounge with cups of tea between you and light refreshments as Jason holds a small notepad with some drawings on them.

“As things go, our last attack was a few weeks ago, whereby we had several water Pokémon stolen, the costs of which have run up to seventy thousand dollars. One of these Pokémon stolen were thankfully fitted with a tracking device, which I made after the last heist against us, and according to eyewitnesses the thieves seemed to be running a small freighter on which the stolen Pokémon are taken. My guess is that the Pokémon are shipped to a cave somewhere, before being shipped out to foreign lands for business ventures when the heat dies down. The signal from the chipped Pokémon died yesterday, somewhere near where I was attacked by that Sharpedo when you helped me, and...” Jason is cut off by a look from Alberto, who gives a saddened sigh.

“So that is why you were out there...searching for the signal.”

With a nod, Jason continues with the information. “Anyways, we think there could be at least twenty smugglers running the operation, with about fifty Pokémon between them, although we have no idea what they’re running, nor how powerful said Pokémon are. All we know is that the signal died out yesterday near that spot where that Sharpedo jumped me, and that said spot is a known area for suspicious activity. If my information’s correct, then that would be where the stolen Pokémon are stored. Our plan is for me and you to head there and to enter the caves from the banks, as this would seem the best way in. Once we’re inside, our main goal is to disable that freighter and release the imprisoned Pokémon: So long as their main mode of transport is killed off, they’ve not much place to go, at which point they’re easier to apprehend. It’s bound to be dangerous, however, and we’re probably going to get into a few fights here or there.”

“With the details set, all that needs to be done is to recuperate and prepare for the infiltration, no matter how dangerous. We’ve a healing machine here we use for medical purposes and maintenance among our Pokémon, feel free to use it to give your team a bit of rest and let us know when you’re ready,” Alberto advises as you consider the plan. It would be best to take advantage of it as you are unsure of the dangers in this mission.

Rakurai: The Octillery situation and your contrasting thought to the problem compared to Andrew’s portrayal of it is all the reason Kiba needs to bound forwards as he prepares for battle, and as Flandre tries to follow suit, the natural fact that the foe is much larger than her and that she isn’t completely advantageous against it means that her attacking it is suicidal as you haul her back. Giving orders to the Electrike, Kiba darts around hastily to create several doubles to create a small team around it. With a sudden look of slight surprise, the Octillery simply lazily swishes an arm at one of the Kiba, causing the hound to disintegrate into a dull wisp of air as one of the doubles is eliminated. With a nod, Andrew’s Ludicolo sambaes into the battlefield, spitting a small seed at the distracted Octillery as it lands and implants itself in the head of the beast before sprouting and beginning to leech health from it as the octopus shakes its head in vain before giving a hiss as Kiba’s shock wave courses into it, zapping it and turning its bored expression into one that could likely destroy a city if looks were capable of killing. Inhaling, it turns its head as it spouts forth an array of bullet seeds, each one easily the size of apples rather than mere seeds as the missiles spray around, buffeting the clones and busting them as well as striking Kiba a bit, and as the Electrike finds itself staring at the rising tentacle, he gasps as his life flashes before his eyes...

...only for the tentacle to stay suspended and crashing down a foot from him as Ludicolo causes the monster to grunt in pain as the striking ball of grassy energy strikes its face, and you can only gasp as the Octillery truns its head and unleashes a terrific blast of water you recognise as a hydro pump with all the force of a tank cannon, sending the Ludicolo flying a dozen metres through the air as it lands quacking in pain despite the resistance. Kiba then delivers his thunderbolt into one of the limbs, the limb locking up in paralysis as the Octillery roars in pain before delivering an improvised headbutt by swinging its tentacle around to throw Kiba several feet into the air before striking him with a vicious knock with the forehead, the dog crashing into the sands as Flandre gasps in horror and Andrew gulps nervously once more as the two Pokémon look up to see flames starting to gather in the tubular mouth of the colossus...

    Energos Quarry

Centin: With the current situation against you, and with the Probopass looming menacingly before you, you opt to take the more conservative route and accept the proposal to meet with Tesla, without the whole battling situation and as you watch, the emerald electricity fades from around the floating nose as it gives a small shunt in approval.

    “A WISE DECISION, HUMAN. FOLLOW.”

As the Probopass turns and heads down a tunnel, the Mini-nose behind it keeping an eye on you, Skarsvalg flops its way beside you as you follow the Pokémon through the tunnels, noticing how bare the rocks are. After a couple of hours walking, you start to feel a little tired and with the Probopass in front of you navigating and your Whiscash flopping by you, the Probopass stops suddenly before turning to you.

“IT WOULD BE BEST FOR YOU TO TAKE HEED, HUMAN, FOR THERE ARE Pokémon AROUND WHO HAVE HATRED FOR THE EMPEROR.”

With the warning, the Probopass waits for a few minutes, giving you some much-needed rest before continuing. Several moments later, a slight rumbling of the cave causes a few small particles of rock to fall on you as you brush them off before the Nose Pokémon in front of you suddenly stops and calls out in shock.

“HUMAN! RUN AT FULL SPEED! DO NOT LAG!”

As you question the order, Skarsvalg gives a gasp before flopping beside you and hastily flopping to your belt, recalling himself as you gaze behind you and fail to stop your legs going into overdrive as the tunnel starts to collapse behind you! Running at full speed, you catch up to the hastily floating Probopass as the two of you narrowly avoid being crushed by the falling rocks as you pant heavily, looking behind you at the cave-in before the Probopass gives a grumpy grunt as you turn to him to see the familiar electricity and a determined glare before looking at the chucking head of a somewhat-large Steelix, the grin of its face more sadistic than cheerful as it laughs at your misfortune.

“YOU FIEND! THESE TUNNELS ARE FOR THE GREATER GOOD, AND YET YOU SIMPLY DESTROY THEM TO TRY AND ATTACK THE ALLIES OF EMPEROR TESLA!? HUMAN! I REQUEST YOUR AID IN SQUASHING THIS MONSTER BEFORE HE BURIES US!”

With the looming threat of the Iron Snake in front of you as it grits its teeth and the request for help by the Probopass, it would be beneficial to gain some friendship, as it would aid in your meeting with the emperor.

As far as missions could go, there wasn't much to go on in the current preliminary phase. Alberto and Jason could only give him hypothesised statistics at best, though in retrospect it was to be somewhat expected. It was distinctly clear that direct confrontation would be impossible given their existing resources, and Shadow was in mental concord that the plan would have to be strategic and based about espionage.

Excusing himself to utilise the healing mechanisms, Shadow continued to plan ahead as far as the information he possessed would allow him. There was no confirmation to the sort of Pokemon the enemy would be using, though chances were that they were restricted to aquatic and villainous varieties; elements which Shadow was decently assured he could handle. Overwhelming odds -- now that would be a problem. Any confrontation with a pirate operative could easily escalate to the point where the three of them might be completely surrounded. Perhaps usage of his Dusknoir's uniquely mastered skill, Shadow Force, would help in escape by vanishing to another dimension.

"Grim... hm, now there's a thought."

Waiting for the healing machine to complete its work, Shadow returned to the company of the other two.

"I'm ready when you are, Alberto, Jason. Before we leave, though, perhaps we could consult my Dusknoir's Future Sight? It might help us prepare for dangers to come and avoid."

Katsu couldn't help but call out to Kiba in concern after seeing him get nailed by the Octillery's vicious attack, the Electrike gritting his teeth in pain as he shakily rose to his feet after being smacked into the sand. Flandre, too, seemed terribly troubled by the sight, a look of shock briefly coming over her face before being replaced by one of rage, seeming as though she wanted to get her claws into the oversized mollusk more then ever. She had come to view Kiba as an older brother of sorts, so naturally, seeing any harm come to him tended to set her off rather quickly.

Katsu's fears had also been confirmed by that time, as the Octillery seemed to be showing no signs of giving in despite having taken a number of hits, and the destructive force of its attacks was clearly being increased by it's size. It was anything but finished with Kiba and Ludicolo, either, as it had begun to prepare another attack immediately after sending both of the brave combatants flying. Katsu quickly noticed the flames building within its mouth, however, and gave his next set of commands in an instant, not wanting the two suffer whatever it was the Octillery had in store for them.

"Kiba! Protect yourself and Ludicolo, NOW! Afterwards, continue your assault from afar with a Thunder Wave followed by another Thunderbolt!"

He stressed the importance of the first command, desperately hoping Kiba would be able to react in time...

Shadow: Your analysis of the plan noted and filed for future reference and blaming should it fall apart, you consider Grim’s Shadow Force move as a useful escape plan before mentioning the Dusknoir’s Future Sight move to scry into the future for some intel, to which the two men seem sceptical to, but nod as you release the Gripper Pokémon and explain the plannings. With a nod, Grim’s eye takes on a lilac hue as he sets his sight towards events you and Jason may hold in the future, and after a few moments in which he winces slightly, making the boy squirm a little, turns to you before giving the juice via psychocommunicative means.

The path ahead is blurry, and my psychic reserves can only go so far, but from what I can see, there is a large number of what could be surmised as storage crates in a bayou, and a hidden entryway through the upper cliffs with little resistance. Inside, my views become harder to see, and the furthest I could scry was a large crippled carrier with the scent of the departing on board.

Frowning, you return Grim to his ball and place it on the healing machine to recharge his psychic reserves before relaying the information to the pair, who seem to be focused on your words.

“I see. If Grim is correct, then the best place to start searching would be the cliffs near where that signal died. We’ll head there right now, try hard not to look too conspicuous.”

    -=-=-

An hour or so later, you and Jason find yourselves at the same point where you met, albeit without a hungry shark attempting to devour either of you as you scour the area and note a formation of rocky cliffs. As you head there, Jason plucks a cobalt ball with a pair of red stripes and gives it a small toss to reveal the figure of a lithe humanoid with enlarged legs. As the Medicham gives a small bow, Jason whispers to it as the fighting Pokémon starts to sit and meditate for a few seconds as you grow a little impatient before it gives a nod towards a small outlet as Jason scurries over quietly and you follow suit.

“My Medicham’s psychic abilities can let it detect any life signs in the area hidden from general view, and she says that this small cliff has only two entities standing around idly.”

After a couple of minutes climbing, you and Jason along with the Medicham are crouched behind a few bushes as you look over at the entities Jason talked about earlier, identifying them as a pair of Skorupi who are standing over a wooden hatch with determined looks on their faces. It would seem that these bugs are the guards, and as Medicham prepares to strike, Jason shakes his head before turning to you.

“We could attack them head-on, but I’d think a stealthier approach could help in the long run. Do you have anything capable of crippling or disabling these guards?”

Rakurai: Your shock as Kiba is launched by the attack and Flandre's horror at her friend being smacked around like a cheap toy is dispelled as you see the flames in the mouth develop and call out a sudden order to the Electrike, hoping the dog is speedy enough to react in time. Fortunately, Kiba nods before darting to the rising Ludicolo and creates a protective forcefield just as the octopus unleashes a brutal flamethrower so powerful and ferocious that in a couple of seconds you can't see the pair from the fury and you pray that the barrier holds as the sand around them melts quickly into glass from the intense heat. After several nerve-wracking moments, the Octillery stops breathing and gawks in surprised amusement to see the barrier fade away, Kiba slightly fatigued from keeping it up for an extended time and the Ludicolo finishing its twisting trick, which Andrew gives a smirk to.

"Give our little friend there a taste of your thunderpunch, Mirror, with that swords dance boost there backing it up."

As the duck gives a devilish quack, it hops out the glassy crater and heads closer to the giant octopus before stopping as Kiba's thunder wave strikes it in the incoming tentacle, numbing it and giving Mirror a footing to drive his electrically-charged fist into the face of the oversized pokemon, the scream of pain eliciting from it hastily followed by a hollow thud as it delivers a headbutt to the carefree pokemon, knocking it back a few metres as Kiba fires another thunderbolt towards the monster, making it twitch in sheer pain as the Electrike yaps cheerfully at the advantageous strikes...

...before the monster throws a tentacle at him and grabbing the Electrike with the help of its suction cups before proceeding to wring Kiba's health straight out of him with some vicious twisting motions, the hound roaring in intense agony from the sudden move before being released as Mirror launches the charged focus punch into the Jet pokemon's side, bowling it onto the side and releasing Kiba, who painfully rises as Octillery regains itself as it starts to focus energy to power up its move efficiency, the marks of battle clear as its paralyzed limbs start to lock up less, but it is looking quite battered and shouldn't take too many more hits to defeat.

Arcanum: Your initial surprise as Adam started talking aside, you feel relieved that your Pokémon, although unnerved, understand the situation as you finish the meal and clamber into bed for some rest, before being woken by Lyre some hours later. After a small round of scowls from your Pokémon at your comment, you forgo the formality of using your soaked shoes and head to Velos’ chamber, looking much like a zombie as you mumble your announcement that you’re ready to begin, at which Velos gives a slow nod to before climbing off his seat and asking you to follow him as he slowly makes his way out of the room.

Several minutes later, after a walk that could have taken you a minute yourself were the Slowking not so sluggish as he shrugs and apologises for his snail pace, you find yourself at the southern end of the main chamber where Quasar stands with an unusual stone on a string round his neck, the lucid silver glow it emits seeming hypnotic to you.

“Under normal circumstances, anyone in our current state heading away from this room will slowly lose the will to live, as I stated before. However,” Velos grunts as he picks up two similar pendants and hands them to you and Adam, “these are special pendants hewn from the rock around us, chosen for purity and power. While normally your lifespans without these outside this cavern would run for about thirty minutes, this pendant will suppress your soul inside your body for twelve hours. This is important, but under no circumstances should you or your Trapinch ever remove these pendants and stray more than five metres from them, for then you are outwith their aura and will perish hastily.”

As you put the pendant around your neck, a warm glow fills your body as Lucy helps Adam with his before the Slowking takes a small breath and continues.

“You would imagine why a human is required for this task, and the answer itself is simple. Further ahead, there is a large stone doorway even the mightiest Machamp has no hope of opening, yet with a human heart so pure and innocent, with but a touch it swings open. Quasar has been through this doorway before, but had to retreat when the last human was tragically lost much of the way through. Even now, we have no idea how it happened...but we must not dwell on these things. Your team is rested, yes, but the trials ahead will be gruelling, and you will be on a timer, as much as you hate to think of it. Do not delay, my friend.”

With those words, Velos steps aside as the Luxray gives a nod before stepping forward out of the glow of the caverns and as you follow, a small tap on the shoulder makes you turn as a rather irritable buck-toothed face gets in your view. Aside from the sudden disturbance, the same Bibarel gives a small smile before handing over a small package with a couple of berries and a bottle of purple liquid before nodding and toddling off. With the small gift of items, you turn to follow Quasar into the gloom.

    -=-=-

Thirty minutes or so later, after heading through a number of tunnels, you find yourself at the door Velos mentioned, the massive contraption resembling the legendary Pokémon Regigigas as you gaze at the sheer scale of the door.

“This door will lead to a number of caverns and tunnels which will lead to the tear, and as stated before, only a human can open it by showing his purity of heart by touching the door...” Velos begins before his eyes snap open, alert as he sparks with electricity and turns around as your Pokémon look up with surprise at the sudden shrill screech emanating from the roof above you as you gaze into the hungry eyes of a Golbat, with two smaller Zubat giving famished squeaks as they hang from the roof.

“They come! Look sharp, Arcanum! I shall handle the larger bat, you take care of the smaller ones!” Velos roars as he delivers a sudden shock wave to the trio, dispersing the winged creatures and attracting the attention of the Golbat while the two Zubat accompanying it flitter around your head, seeming to want a bite of you.

    What will you do?

Note: Upon replying to this update, you may pick up one Pecha, Cheri and Chesto Berry and one Potion as supplies from the Bibarel for use in this zone, and you may use TWO Pokémon for the battle.

Studying the scenario, Shadow mulled their options over. If the information Medicham and Grim provided was correct and the Skorupi pair were the only immediate obstacles, he could easily storm them and move on; however the resulting brouhaha could just as easily attract enough unwanted attention to permanently throw an entire toolbox's worth of spanners in their plans. Thinking through Jason's suggestion of a technique to cripple the opposition, Shadow went through his team's capabilities in full to identify such a plan, if one existed. Most of his team, after all, derived their strengths from offence, but perhaps there were enough resources on his end to pull off such a strategy. Tugging the Love Ball off his belt, Shadow revealed Mango the Quasgire for the second time that day.

"Alright, Mango. See those Skorupi over there?" he whispered as he pointed. "I need you to cast some Amnesia on them to force them to forget what they're doing, then Flash to cause them to bumble about. For good measure, smack them with your Yawn to ensure they're out for the count."

Velos traveled about as slowly as anything Arcanum had ever seen, and following him was painfully boring. Arcanum caught himself spinning, walking backwards, and even counting the crystals on the walls as he walked behind the Slowking, just to stay occupied. Velos apologized for his slowness, and Arcanum was quick to confirm that it was fine and he didn't mind. Eventually he stopped in front of Quasar, and Arcanum couldn't help but stare at the stone strung around Quasar's neck. It had a strange eminence that Arcanum found fascinating. Velos spoke, reiterating the consequence of leaving the area when he bent over with a large grunt, and procured 2 additional pendants, which he passed to Arcanum and Adam explaining that they would allow 12 hours of time outside the cavern, instead of the usual time limit of 30 minutes. Arcanum wanted to ask how they knew it was 30 minutes, but decided he'd rather not bring either of the pokémon to tears over long lost friends. As Arcanum slipped his pendant over his neck, he felt suddenly much warmer, like he had walked outside on a sunny day. As Lucy used her claws to help Adam slip the second pendant around his large head, Arcanum said, "Hey Adam, can you feel that? It feels like the sun is hitting my soul." Adam replied, "Yeah, it's a lot warmer with this on."

A light tap on the shoulder beckoned Arcanum to turn around before following Quasar farther in to the tunnels. The beaver was with them, and had apparently been following the whole time. Arcanum gave an initially harsh look of annoyance to the Bibarel, but it changed as he realized what the Bibarel was doing. In a small package were three berries and a purple spray bottle, which the Bibarel was happily handing to Arcanum. "Thank you," Arcanum said with a huge smile.

*Arcanum added a Pecha Berry, Cheri Berry, Chesto Berry, and Potion to his bag*

About 30 minutes later, a huge door featuring Regigigas stood before Quasar, Arcanum, and his five pokémon. Quasar began to reiterate how the door was supposed to be opened, when his body snapped to alertness and with alarming speed a bolt of lightning emanated from his body towards a Golbat and two Zubat. The bats looked as if they hadn't eaten in the longest time, and they squeeked and dispersed as the Shock Wave hit them. Quasar told Arcanum to take care of the two Zubat as he defended against the Golbat, and Arcanum sprang in to action. In the short term, that action was to avoid getting hit by the two bats by running away. Arcanum yelled to his team, "Run!" and proceeded to run down the tunnel in the direction they'd came, hoping to get some distance between him and the two Zubat, and if not at least between him and Quasar's battle with the Golbat. After running a short distance away, he fumbled with his pokéballs for a second until he found the ones that housed his weaker pokémon. As he called his Horsea, Caterpie, and Nincada back to their spherical homes one by one through the transparent red beams, he shouted orders to Adam the Trapinch and Lucy the Sableye: "Adam, I want you to use Focus Energy, and then Quick Attack and Bite. Try to bring it down to the ground! Lucy, target the other Zubat, using Leer followed by Night Shade and Firestream!" After the responses of "Aye" and "Eye" respectively from each of the pokémon, they began doing their best to defend against the hungry Zubat. Arcanum knew Adam was at a disadvantage because they were flying type pokémon, but luckily he knew some other moves for situations like this.

Just wanting to clarify some things, Quasar is the Luxray and Velos the Slowpoke has not traveled all the way to the Regigigas door, nor does he know electric moves, right? I figure you just made a mistake since you have to keep track of so many characters for all of our adventures. Also, can the berries and potion only be used in this adventure, or if I don't use them all do I get to keep them for future adventures?

Katsu watched with eyes full of concern and fear, as the Octillery's Flamethrower completely engulfed Kiba and Mirror, though fortunately, not before the Electrike had managed to carry out his order. The trainer breathed a sigh of relief when the flames finally subsided, with the two unscathed, and ready to continue the battle.

Rather cleverly, Andrew's Ludicolo had used the time spent under Kiba's protection to do a Swords Dance, and then proceeded to sock the Octillery squarely in the face with a Thunderpunch, taking full advantage of the opening Kiba had created shortly beforehand with his Thunder Wave. The sight seemed to amuse Flandre, who began to energetically cheer the two battlers on.

However, the Charmander was silenced rather quickly, as the Octillery, having grown sick of being repeatedly zapped by Kiba, suddenly seized him, and started to wring the poor canine out. His roars of pain were terribly distressing to both Katsu and Flandre, the former almost being brought to tears, and the latter crying out in concern as she tried to wrest herself free of her trainer's arms, wanting to help her friend more then anything else. Kiba was spared any prolonged suffering thanks to a quick intervention from Mirror, but he was clearly getting worn out.

Noticing this, Katsu felt a need to put an end to the battle sooner then later, and he had a plan that he hoped would do the trick.

"Kiba... Let's put an end to this now. Create a distraction using your Double Team, then when you see an opening, get a firm grip on Octillery's head with your Ice Fang, then Discharge as much electricity into it as you can!".

It was a rather risky maneuver, but Katsu had hopes that help from Andrew and Mirror would make it succeed...

Gardevoir's eyes pulse blue as she moves through her orders, taking out a massive number of foes with Pikachu before nearly collapsing, energy nearly gone from the harsh battle. Amras' eyes tear up at the sight of his Pokemon so hurt, and he quickly recalls both of them, thanking his friends for a great job in battle. Gazing across the street, Amras quickly forces himself to hold back a dry heave, mind filling up with the awful images of war he had experienced 500,000 years ago at the sight of the dead Murkrow. Amras says a brief prayer to Arceus, asking him to watch over the Murkrow's soul, and finally manages to wrestle himself away from the scene to thank Megan for her assistance. A quick apology spurting from his lips, Amras manages to say hi to the shop owner, and thanks the man for his kindness.

"Sir, I would be honored to be able to accompany you to your home. I promise I will help you clean this up if need be, in repayment for the damage caused."

And with that, Amras joined the man and Megan, ready to see what awaited him next...

I’m really sorry for taking so long. I’ve been busy in real life and couldn’t afford to continue with another adventure. It’s an awesome update and I’ve wanted to reply to it for weeks.

Gulping nervously as he pressed open the large, pane-glass door, Wes averted his gaze to the hardy croc who was wagging his tail excitedly. Switching his stance to all-fours, he neatly toggled behind the young trainer in the mitts of such a formal atmosphere. The office-esc expanse was clustered with several pencil pushers and a towering insignia of the outlandish posse of scientists. Heading to the foremost desk of spotless room, the trainer lowered his head idly, awaiting the attention of the female receptionist. The seconds stood at the marble desk felt like hours, the orderly clamor of keyboards, the irritating drone of several office phones. Brawly thumped his appendage on the floor impatiently; a bureau was no place for a Pokémon as rowdy as himself. Lifting her head from the usual office duties, she greeted Wes with a pleasant smile, pausing for Wes to explain what he was actually doing in the area. Wes paused himself, inhaling once more before glancing at the futuristic clock perched on the pallid walls.

“I’m Wes Wallace, I’ve come for the scuba exploration”, she stared narrowly at the young trainer, inhaling he contemplated upon his last run-in with the group, “I’ve visited the Volcanic Mountain branch recently, I even have a Squirtle they gave me as proof!” The kid bit his lip in angst, nonetheless, the secretary began mashing her keyboard yet again. Wes fretfully petted the his accompanying Croconaw, questioning how long the woman would actually take. Dropping the handset onto its holder, the secretary retained her eye-contact with a much more somber disposition. Much to the trainer’s surprise, they had a comprehensive data file of the adolescent, with the highest authority of the hierarchy specifically requesting his aide. Wes face turned a cherry hue having been acknowledged in such a manner. Meanwhile the adjacent Brawly wagged his tail elatedly in hopes of taking to a top mission.

    ***

Stepping into a stylish elevator, he found much humor in the numerous posters of a Safari Adventure. ’Try your wits against a 50-foot Omastar and Aerodactyl, then tell me if you still want to publicize that hell-hole’. Averting his gaze from the illustrations, Wes gritted his teeth in response to the irritating drone emitting through the twofold speakers, he’d never been a fan of elevator music. With the lift ascending to a considerably high floor, the two doors finally swoosh open to greet Wes with a rather suave suite. Ambling a few paces through the sophisticated ambiance, a suited fellow sporting a small beard quickly joined him and the four-legged Brawly. Greeting him with a firm handshake, Wes got the sense the affluent fellow would be quite pleasant. Continuing with a brief introduction, the director quickly apologized for his unannounced summit, something which the teen didn’t mind at all. Wes wasn’t too familiar with business policies, so he leaned back and allowed the fellow to take course.

Pacing around the chic suite, Wes noticed a small plaque on the man’s desk reading Braunhurst. Assumptive this was the man’s name; he instinctively took a seat affront of the timber desk as the director fingered his cabinets for a paper file. Brawly followed by sprawling out on the pristine carpets, groaning like any bored Pokémon would. Braunhurst then continued to sit himself, handing the bulky document to Wes. Flicking through the pages, he noticed several pictures of the outskirts of the deep-sea ruins. Several reports and logs of expeditions littered the pages of the comprehensive file, the adolescent eager to read through. Time was short however, so he opted for Braunhurst’s briefer summary.

“I can’t take full credit for the events at Adventure Island, or much credit at all”, Wes gulped heavily, realizing he wasn’t selling himself to the best, “however, in the water I’m one of the best trainers you’ll find. I undoubtedly accept your proposition sir!” Nodding rather boldly, Wes grinned as Brawly’s tail wagged against the floor in pure exhilaration. They where both prepared for an electrifying scuba trip, despite what dangers may ensue. Switching from an cocky grin to an expression of unease. He still knew little of the exploration, how he would reach the ruins etc.

So many occurrences, all at once. Jessica could hardly keep track of them all. Her eyes darted to Custard’s abrupt descent towards the dragon, striking the finned backside agilely. The beast grunted, but didn’t yield, maintaining its course towards her.

A wind blew above, briefly exciting her hair. She glanced up in awe, as the mantis broke free from its bolstering revolution, gleaming malevolently at her. She winced, imagining the scythes on her body, so much blood she couldn’t stand.

Suddenly, a charge exploded, sparks flew to the spot where the insect formerly occupied, had it not swiftly cut aside in time. Buzzing irately, it turned towards the apparent source of the firework: the deck of the liner, where an orange rodent stood, scornfully sneering the Scyther. Inflamed, the bug vengefully pursued its ridiculer, abandoning her as a target.

Back to the threat from the sea: Haruki swam forth, impeding the dragon’s path. With bold intent, he unleashed bubbles directly onto the beast’s charging course, hindering its progress. But not enough, as it collided forcefully with the blue Corsola, sending the obstacle painfully skipping away across the surface.

As the dragon paused, shaking its head from the harsh sendback, Custard dived immediately, interceding the twp opponents. In a flash, he gusted a blast of freezing wind into the creature’s face, leaving no room for reprisal as he successively smashed the target with a steel-coated wing, the metallic impact reverberating in the air.

The dragon cringed from the shock, but snapped its eyes wide open, grinning cruelly before spewing intense flames all over the arctic penguin. Custard screeched in agony and surprise as he desperately retreated, his wings singed and smoldering black.

Haruki erupted from his position, firing the mystical rays he had been accumulating at the beast in retribution for his friend’s pain. The beams swiftly attacked the creature’s mind, disorienting it to the point of forgetting its intentions. Gazing dully about the water, it scratched its head bewilderedly, first spotting Haruki’s sparkling form swimming a short distance away. Fascinated, it approached the shimmering blue object, biting the rough hide gently and tossing the surprised Corsola into the air. It batted playfully at Haruki each time the round Pokémon declined to the surface, entertaining itself with an amusing game of keepy-uppy. As Jessica’s eyes simultaneously bobbed up and down, tracking poor Haruki’s rise and fall, she grimaced with silent apology, realizing the expenditure of her Pokémon’s pride to distract the beast.

Jessica glanced down, remembering. In the time the enemy was diverted, the rig had accomplished half the distance, and now safely hung out of the dragon’s reach. She breathed a sigh of relief.

A scream caught her attention, and she whirled to watch the Scyther’s body hurtle towards the trawler, crashing directly between a pair of unimpressed Machoke who had taken over the oars. The shriek had attracted the dragon’s puzzled focus as well, and it missed Haruki’s current fall, resulting in a crash landing on the creature’s head. It hissed in shock as it rubbed its crown, a noticeable lump forming between its horns. The blow seemed to have knocked some sense back into its brain, and it glanced furiously around, spying and snarling at Haruki, who quaked in fear. With a roar, the dragon slammed its claws into the Corsola, launching him straight into an unsuspecting Custard. Jessica flinched as she watched her two Pokémon collide and tumble straight down into the water. There followed a brief scene of floundering and splashing as they fought clumsily against an imagined opponent. At last, the two managed to awkwardly disentangle themselves and hastily cast about in different directions, seeking the true antagonist.

A shadow fell over them, and all gazed up at once. The dragon had taken flight, and with a gargantuan roar, wildly expelled a violent inferno in a surrounding arc. Bobble reactively established another protective barrier, as scorched cinders rained fiercely down over the entire group, absorbing into the white like ashes into a snowdrift. Jessica could sense the heat on the outside of the wall, engulfing the blockade with intense fervor, hunting for any potential openings, any faults or weakness. Bobble grimaced and reasserted himself, bracing until the storm of embers died, letting the shield go at the same time.

As Jessica gratefully supported the weary Wynaut, she surveyed the situation once more. They were currently faced with a fuming and fearsome monster, with the vanguard sitting several meters below near the water. Her gaze shifted up. A few more minutes to safety. The distance seemed so close, yet so far.

“Bobble, please be prepared to shield us with SAFEGUARD again, if you can.” She looked down to the surface of the water, where her other two comrades waited anxiously for a command.

“Custard!” she cried. “FLY up and attack the dragon with BLIZZARD! If you can, grab onto it and throw it down towards the water with SEISMIC TOSS!

Haruki, use this chance to RECOVER. If the dragon or some other target falls into range, attack with WATER PULSE and then ICE BEAM!”

Shadow: Your concern at your lack of darksided tactics means you have to use alternative methods as you quietly send out Mango before explaining the situation and orders. Hiding behind the bushes, Mango connects with the bugs psychokinetically before instilling amnesia into their minds, their toxic affinity adding to the forgetful effects as the two bugs wonder why they’re even standing around on a clifftop for, before the sudden flash of light causes their vision to take a sudden turn for the worse as they clacker stupidly, their vision impaired before wandering daftly off the cliff face itself, their brains too muddled to contemplate screaming as they land heavily on the rocks below, stunned as Mango shrugs and the four of you step out into the open, the coast clear.

“Like a professional. Let’s get inside.”

After a little bit of work against a small padlock, involving Medicham using its pure power ability to wrench the locking mechanism from the hatch completely, you head into the cave, noting the unnatural light sources and Jason’s tip to keep low and silent as you make your way through the tunnels. After a short while, you find an all-too clichéd split in the path, as you ponder the inevitable situation. With a nod, Medicham’s eyes glow cyan in a foresight to scout a bit ahead before giving a small telekinetic message to Jason as he gives a nod back.

“It seems the left path leads to a small room with a few objects in it, while the right leads to one with a few lifeforms in it and another path. The lifeforms, however, are unknown, they could be Pokémon, they could be smugglers.”

Mango’s silent gasp alerts you to footsteps coming down the hall you used at a natural pace, and it seems you haven’t much time to decide which direction to head down. The left path with a dead end could spell disaster if the smugglers head that way, but there’s the chance that it doesn’t happen if the beings down the right are human...

Arcanum: OOC:Gah, you’re right. Thankfully, I’ll remember in future. As for your item enquiry, if you still have them when the adventure ends, you’ll get to keep them, yes.

BIC: With the sudden appearance of the Zubat and Golbat and Quasar’s interference with them, you retreat a little as you recall your Pokémon, leaving Adam and Lucy out to fend them off. As the Trapinch starts focusing his energy, Lucy leers at one of the Zubat, which ignores it as you realise that Zubat don’t have eyes to be intimidated by visual moves with! Fortunately, the Zubat targeting her simply uses some supersonic waves to echolocate her as well as disorient her, while the one fighting Adam darts down and nips him with a leech life, draining a little health from him and getting in range for his quick attack as it barrels hastily into the bloodsucker. As you watch, Quasar startles all combatants with a mighty roar to disrupt the Golbat before launching a sudden charge beam into the winged jelly bean, making it squeak in shock as he uses spare electricity to improve his special offensive ability just as he grunts as the bat strikes him with a wing attack, the strike glancing off him weakly due to his intimidating stance.

As the Zubat are distracted, Lucy zaps her foe with a night shade from her eyes, the black thunderbolts delivering substantial damage to the bat as it darts in to astonish her, the sudden shock making her wince a bit as well as taking some damage just as Adam’s bat bites him in the head, making him squeal in some pain before shaking it off and biting back, his much larger and heavier jaws making the Zubat screech in major pain as he thrashes around a little before spitting it out, the Zubat stinging all over as it wonkily gets airborne. Noting the success, Lucy spews forth a firestream into her Zubat, the creature squeaking as the fiery bubbles blister on it but not leaving any lasting burns as it painfully flits beside the brethren and spreads their wings as they deliver dual wing attacks to your team, knocking them back. Quasar gives another grunt, this time from the Golbat’s poison fang before he sinks his teeth in a crunch and tears off part of the bat’s wing, a surprising lack of blood coming from the wound as he spits it out and growls at his foe before assessing your side.

“Good work so far, but it would be best to end this quickly, Arcanum, as our time is limited and there is still much to do.”

    -=-=-

Rakurai: Your need to end the battle quickly before the situation got out of hand confirmed, you give your orders to Kiba to pull off a risky manoeuvre that would surely end the conflict in your favour. Giving a bark, Kiba starts to move around hastily once again in a double team, the same pair of canines appearing at either flank of him, before they head around the Octillery as it stares in confusion before swinging a tentacle at one...and it vaporises as Kiba leaps up to the head and sinks his icy fangs into the flesh, causing it to gurgle in irritance as it tries to shake him off. It is in vain, however, as the Electrike proceeds to discharge a massive volume of electricity into the octopus’ head, its limbs flailing around in pain before one knocks the Lightning Pokémon off and a sudden beam of ice freezes Kiba to the sand as his upper half of him scrabbles desperately at the ice, the Octillery seeming to leer with malice just as Mirror’s charging energy ball beans it in the face, and it gives a final roar of anger before dropping most of its tentacles, seemingly in defeat. That is, until you notice the orange energy charging in the mouth as it aims it towards Kiba, and you realise what move it is using: Hyper beam, while painful from any other Pokémon, would be fatal from an Octillery of that size and you call out to Kiba just as the dog notices the deathly energy charged in the octopus’ mouth as it barrels towards him, sand being blown aside from the massive frictional forces as Kiba stares death itself in the face...

...before the view is blocked by a pineapple-shaped duck standing in the face of it, Mirror’s hands in front of it, absorbing the beam as it tries to endure the destructive force of it, the very ice connected to Kiba melting from the power as he darts out of the way as the Ludicolo is pushed back and you realise that the battle being fought is a losing one for the carefree Pokémon as the Octillery suddenly gives a brief pause before blasting again, the sudden jerking of Mirror causing him to stumble and receive the full force of the blast in a critical zone as Andrew watches in horror as slight traces of light can be seen poking through the Ludicolo as the beam continues before the beam stops as Octillery falls into the sand, exhausted from the effort of the beam as Mirror drops to its knees, turning towards you with his scorched face and body grinning as he does so, before giving a lumpy thumbs-up signal and calling back the leech seed as he falls flat into the sand, exhausted and pained from taking an attack like that. Level up for Kiba.

“Mirror always has been one to crawl out of massive battles after taking pretty heavy blows. I’d assume the Octillery’s sniper ability the key to him being KOed, like, but he did a good job.” Andrew sighs as he recalls the defeated duck before taking out a strange machine from his pocket and firing a disc from it before whirling his arm a few times as the top pirouettes around the Octillery several times and a light seeps into it as it suddenly rises, looking much tamer than before.

“All shore watchmen are retired rangers who keep their capture stylers for cases like this, and I see why he wanted to have a scrap now,” Andrew chuckles as he jogs to the Octillery and removes a small spike of coral from a tentacle with help from the Machoke, whistling as he does to. Although the Octillery winces, it seems much more relaxed as it notices the devastation it caused and looks down at Kiba apologetically as the dog gives a slight whine at it.

“Katsu, this big guy seems to be pretty impressive. We’re behind schedule as it is, but I think we can reach the port in time with this fellow. I’ll heal your pal when we get there. Don’t worry, this Octillery was simply annoyed at that splinter and wanted it out. I’ll note this down, of course, since Octillery don’t usually grow this big. He’s a record breaker, that’s for sure.”

A ride to the ship on an Octillery seems unorthodox, but it could beat walking if you wanted to. What will you do?

    Seaside City

Amras: As you consider the offer and offer to help Samuel with cleaning up the mess caused, the man gives a small chuckle before kindly declining the offer as he brings out a ball and with a tap releases a jovial Poliwag which starts to wash and dust off the fish before Samuel returned to tending the stall as a few men head into the area, one of them with a pure black ball, almost as though it would house a demon before tapping the dead Murkrow with it as it is converted into energy and sucked into the orb, without resistance as you watch in some surprise.

“Volcanity Inc’s Afterlife balls, designed for the funeral proceedings of those Pokémon slain by battle or other causes. They tend to be single-use, as the balls are disposed of after the Pokémon inside has been given proper respects. Come, Amras, it’s this way.”

As you follow with your Pokémon withdrawn, you gaze around the area as you move into the swankier side of Seaside City, larger houses replacing shopping malls and an hour later you find yourself outside a large wooded gate, to which Megan simply gives a couple of claps to as the doors creak open and you stare in awe at the majestic building that is Spark Castle, the main path to the castle itself adorned with statues of Lanturn.

“We usually get those expressions when people enter these grounds. The castle’s got quite the history, you know, as it was rumoured the legendary Pokémon Raikou was born on these very grounds.”

As Megan and you head towards the entrance to the castle, a rather tall man of around fifty opens the door, giving a curious eye towards you and Megan as she gives a coy smile.

“Father, this young man is Amras. He helped me out with the latest incident at the western marketplace, and...” Megan starts before the man raises his hand to silence her before addressing you.

“Well, it is nice to meet you, Amras. I would be Duke Terrance of the Watt family, the ruling party of Laguna Peninsula, and as you may have heard, there have been troubles afoot recently. I personally thank you for your assistance with my daughter in this situation, and welcome you into Spark Castle. Please, make yourself welcome.”

Introductions over, you and the two Watts head through a few hallways to a rather majestic chamber, where you note a large table which sports a scale model of Seaside City, replete with small red spots dotted around the area. As a butler nods before leaving the room, Terrance proffers you a comfy seat before Megan picks up a red spot from a small box and places it at the site of the battle before mulling things over.

“Perhaps it would be best to state the problem we’re having. As Megan may have told you, the wild Pokémon of the city are becoming more boisterous or adventurous, and are choosing to strike smaller areas of higher human concentration rather than the regular feeding grounds, which you see in green here,” Terrance states as he shows the model to you, and you note the few larger green areas. “The red spots, as you can guess, are where the Pokémon have attacked recently, and this is becoming a problem.”

Taking a small sheet of paper, Terrance places it on a projector as it transmits a large map of Seaside City on a wall, the butler entering with refreshments for the meeting before taking his leave once more as Megan plucks a scone from the tray.

“Mmm...I can see some pattern at the eastern section of the city, dad. You see how there’s a break between this section and that?” Megan states pointing to a noticeable gap of red spots.

Nodding, Terrance thinks for a small moment before his eyes open a little more in astonishment.

“Of course. They seem to be centred around the old school. I would assume that there is something there that is affecting the wild Pokémon to become aggressive. There’s also a pattern at the south and west, centred at those ruins and that park. A few reports of an unusual mechanism spotted in the park could be our best bet.”

“Amras, I ask a request of you on behalf of Seaside City. I wish for you to head to the park at the western section of the city with Megan and investigate this machine. If it is indeed affecting the wildlife, then terminate the machine before checking the other two areas out. I’ll lend you our Staraptor to fly between the areas. You will, of course, be rewarded for a deed such as this, I can guarantee.”

The two royals turn towards you, awaiting your answer. The prospect of checking the city from the air and a small tour de force of the city seems nice, and it would also give you something to do.

    S.S Lanturn Wreck

Lilblue: The chaos raging around and below you with the Garchomp in the air, you order your Pokémon to stay on guard as Haruki takes the opportunity to transfer much of his energy into recovering lost health from the attacks while Custard starts flying frantically towards the Garchomp, who, with a nasty leer, proceeds to whirl in midair in a familiar swords dance technique, the monster’s physical power increasing as it roared threateningly before turning towards the rising rig, giving a heartless chuckle towards the terrified Tessie before focusing energy into his claw, ready to tear a new hole in the Lapras...

...when Custard’s blizzard washes over the dragon, causing it to elicit a massive roar of pain that has you holding your ears from the sudden outburst as the dragon’s massive elemental weakness to the cold strikes it where it hurts, and even as the chill dies down you can see freezer burns over much of the dragon, who seems much more pained after that attack. Not one to yield, however, Custard nods towards Haruki as he grabs the slipping dragon and attempts to toss him into the water with seismic force, but in spite of the aerial position his proximity to the dragon proves dangerous as the beast snarls in fury before you notice the fire welling in its mouth and as you give a call to Custard you realise with dread that it came too late as it sinks the burning fangs deep into the upper regions of Custard, the Delibird’s upper torso in the maw of the dragon as it thrashes him around before tossing him mercilessly into the upper rigging, the penguin smashing into the hull and landing on the deck painfully, smouldering feathers and bite marks on much of him bleeding slowly and as you watch with horror as the Garchomp gives a vicious roar and starts to fly backwards for a vicious smashing attack against the rig, you are grateful for Haruki’s intervention as he sends the waves of water pulsing into the Garchomp, diverting his attention before his eyes widen with horror as the dragon rushes at him, the beast moving with the force of a freight train, and as it smashes into the water in front of the Corsola, plumes of the watery liquid blasting up like a fountain, you watch in fear as the dragon tries its hardest to crush your Pokémon in its jaws in a vicious crunching manner, failing to notice the slight blue hue Haruki takes as he forces his charging ice beam straight down the dragon’s throat, freezing the internal tissues and making the Mach Pokémon toss Haruki onto the rig in a gag reflex as it pokes at its mouth in major pain, before flitting round to above the rig and leering down with a hateful glare as it rears back and energy flows through its veins as you realise with shock at what it is doing: Even with Bobble defending your Pokémon with safeguard, the sheer force of its giga impact will possibly be enough to break the rig and waste all that hard effort! As you hug the terrified Tessie, you await the very earth-shattering smash that indicates the end of your struggle...

...until a surprised hiss makes you lift your head to see a familiar Empoleon, his harpooned wing holding back the Garchomp and twisting a little to add injury before it looks towards Bobble, a devious glint in the eye as it uses its strength to hurtle the beast downwards as Bobble erects his safeguard, the dragon bouncing off it with much less force and eliciting a daunting creak from the rig before the dazed dragon flounders into the drink, floating on the surface in pain, its wings too bruised for flight as it simply hisses in anger at you and the Empoleon for ousting it. Level up for Custard, Haruki and Bobble. Examining your Pokémon, you hold back tears at the injuries they’ve taken before feeling a sudden jarring and the faces of two of the people who aided you before, one sporting a band with a red cross on it and a Misdreavus by his side, whose pearls glow as you hear a familiar voice in your head. “The danger is over for now, miss, look for yourself.” As you turn towards the trawler, you see the stricken vessel slowly idle away, the men and Pokémon on board cursing at you in their own foul tongue as you see the Empoleon help Tessie off the rig by supporting the stricken flipper, the Lapras’ pained song soothing as you note the Misdreavus taking on a slightly agonised expression and a violet glow between the two: Pain split in action.

“It’s not went in too deep, thankfully, and seems to have missed hitting any critical veins or nerves. This little girl will survive.”

You turn to the man with the armband as he takes a small knife from a first aid kit and works carefully on Tessie’s flipper as you step onto the liner itself, noting the Raichu from before, who hadn’t escaped the scuffle unharmed, a small scar across its chest the defining injury as it grins in victory. Noting your injured and tired Pokémon, you thank them for their help before the sound of metal striking metal fills your ears with surprising joy, a melody of hope as the bloodied harpoon lies discarded on the ground and Tessie’s flipper is tended by the medic when you feel a small tap on your shoulder to note the man who had released the Empoleon.

“I will assume you’re rather exhausted after an ordeal like that, and I’ve had a small talk with my superiors. We’ll let you rest here for a while until your Lapras can move safely once more, so you’ve not much need to worry. It would be best to find out some information as to who we are, as well as what we’re doing here, but I’m curious as to why a youngster like you is around here.”

    What will you do?

    Ohm Reservoir

Empy: Your acceptance of the proposal gives Braunhurst a pleased nod as he lifts his phone and calls a couple of numbers before turning to you with a small booklet.

“In short, our last expedition to the ruins ended on a painful note when the group was attacked by an unknown force. Nobody had survived, and the only evidence we have of the doomed expedition is this recording of the place. As it is a dangerous place, we felt that only you could handle it. There are a few old puzzles from our historical records there, but in short we want you to head to the antechamber of the ruins and to confirm the existence of a crystalline orb known as the Lustrous Orb, a mystical jewel somewhat linked to the mythological Pokémon Dialga. Of course, I’ve asked for your kit to be set up, so all you need to do is enter the elevator and you’ll be briefed on the stuff. I thank you for your acceptance of this proposal, Wes.”

A short elevator ride later, you find yourself at a small laboratory dock where a small boat lies, a scientist aboard it awaiting you. As you enter, she smiles at you before ushering you into the cockpit of the boat, where you see a number of high-tech objects on a shelf as she takes them down.

“This diving suit is one of a kind, and under normal circumstances, we wouldn’t normally give them out. However, Braunhurst has it on authority that you’re an accomplished trainer, and so this is sort of a test run. As you can see, the suit is comprised of a helmet with a LED visor which will update you in your location, as well as giving us communicative ability, which will come in handy. The other half is the wetsuit itself, comprised of a high-density macrofibre that is water-resistant to a depth of eight thousand feet and can withstand pressures of up to twenty thousand psi. Your non-water Pokémon are to be housed in these Ocean Balls, which will give them an equally defensive suit when released, and all suits carry a rebreather so you can stay under for as long as you need. The suit itself also possesses elemental resistivity, reducing damage from electrical attacks by roughly half, while it doesn’t suppress the Pokémon’s powers. We also have a probing device capable of delivering a powerful burst of psionic energy equivalent to a Hyper Beam of damage, although it takes thirty minutes to recharge and may be used only thrice before the battery gives out, but it can power up anything. You should suit up, as we leave in ten minutes time.”

    -=-=-=-

An hour later, you find yourself and your Pokémon inside the Ocean Balls, Brawly boasting his own shell suit to his irritance as the scientist twiddles with your knobs on your head before giving an all clear nod as you bend back and enter the water with a loud splash. Your visor instantly lights up to show you a very clear image of the underwater region as you swim towards the ruins, the beauty of the sunken area of Ohm Reservoir taking your breath away as you descend in awe. Eventually, you reach the ground, as you swim to the doorway of the ruins and enter, the radio crackle of Braunhurst completely audible to you.

“Wesley, this chamber should be the entrance. We’re not sure which way our last expedition went, but there are three paths, one at either side and a borehole in the centre of the room. It’s your choice, but do remember this: If the suit is damaged enough, your rebreather could fail. If that happens, you will only have five minutes of oxygen left in your suit.”

With your choices made and the dangers enforced, it’s really your choice as to which path you take, each one looking as uninviting as the next.

Centin let go of the probopass that he was following. Although he was limping from time to time, he still had enough energy to stand up. In fact, enough energy to throw out a pokeball, calling upon one of his pokemon. "Whish? Whishcash?" a big fish stared at him airborne at the eye before falling flat on the floor. "Uh, Skarsvalg?" the trainer seemed to have not taken notice that it was the same pokeball. He wanted to send in something else, but no matter, he thought that whiscash was an unintended much better choice against a steelix.

Seeing the rocks still rumbling around, Centin hastily commanded, "Skarsvalg, use mud bomb on the steelix. It might be helpful as a defensive move as well." The whiscash then started to jump around on the same spot, creating some specks of dust. The trainer then looked down for a few seconds, then briefly looked up at his whiscash once more, apparently he forgot to add a few details, "Oh yeah. I meant, use water pulse on the cavern floors around you. This might prevent the steelix from digging under you. Then, use mud bomb with the mud newly created by you." Since the trainer was so scared that he might trip over some jewels on the floor at any moment, he tried to hurry back to the probopass, dodging any rocks on the way.

Shadow's muscles tensed at the prospects of critical decision-making. Perhaps hoping for a smooth mission was asking for too much, but the idea was to undergo the reconnaissance with as little external interference as possible. Having to choose between unknowns hardly made the situation better, and he doubted he had liberty to use Grim's scrying powers to look into the issue. Possibly, he would have to rely on Mango's abilities again.

"This is what we'll do," he whispered to the men and Pokemon alongside him. "We head down the right side, and whatever is in that room, smuggler or Pokemon, if the occupants turn out hostile, Mango will execute her Yawn command to put them out of commission. Once they're asleep we'll have enough time to prepare them for interrogation, restraints, self-barricading, whatever such that we may continue with the mission. Now let's go before those smugglers find us here!"

Kiba carried out Katsu's commands exactly as he was told, but his attack still hadn't been enough bring the Octillery down, and it looked angrier then ever as it immobilized the canine with a precisely aimed Ice Beam. Mirror struck shortly after, firing an Energy Ball into the octopus' face, and for a moment, it seemed as though it was finally through with battling, its tentacles having fallen limply into the sand.

Unfortunately, it still had enough strength in it for one last attack, as it had begun to prepare a Hyper Beam, that much to the horror of Katsu and Flandre, was aimed at Kiba, who was frantically struggling to free himself from the ice, but to no avail. The trainer practically screamed the Electrike's name at the sight, the fear that he was about to lose his companion clear in his voice, while his Charmander covered her eyes, not wanting to see what was about to happen. Coming from a Pokemon of such a size, and being delivered at close range, the attack would almost surely be lethal, and it seemed as though Kiba's fate was sealed as the massive blast of energy hurtled towards him.

What happened next, however, left the three of them rather dumbstruck, however, as in a blink of an eye, Mirror placed himself between Kiba and the beam, having made the self-sacrificing decision to use himself a living shield. The mere proximity of the attack was enough to melt the ice holding Kiba in a place, and he promptly fled to a safe distance, where he watched with concern as Mirror struggled keep his balance. The Ludicolo faltered for a moment as the attack ended, only to be nailed by a second one, which brought him to his knees. Seeming proud of what he had done, he turned back to Katsu and gave him a thumbs-up before collapsing, a bit of a mess after having taken so much abuse, but fortunately alive.

Still in a bit of a shock over everything that had just happened, Katsu stared into space for a moment before he came to his senses and set Flandre down before running over to retrieve Kiba. He took him into his arms and hugged him tightly, a few tears falling from his eyes as he did so. "I thought you were a goner...", he said, sounding very relieved, to which Kiba smiled, as appreciative of his trainer's concern as ever. "We'll both have to thank Mirror once he's awake...", Katsu thought, as he turned to watch Andrew recall the Ludicolo.

He then turned his attention to the defeated Octillery, and puzzled over what had brought it to the beach, as well as what had made it so grumpy in the first place. The answer came rather shortly, as Andrew removed a strange disc-like device from his pocket and sent it whirling around the octopus, which in a somewhat miraculous fashion, roused it from its state of unconsciousness, and it seemed to be in a much better mood then it had been before. “All shore watchmen are retired rangers who keep their capture stylers for cases like this, and I see why he wanted to have a scrap now,” explained Andrew, as he ran over to the Octillery and with the help of his Machoke, removed a spike of coral from one of its tentacles, which left it looking rather pleased, yet regretful over the destruction it had caused. "It stirred up all that trouble over a little piece of coral?", thought Katsu, his face expressing a mixture of amusement and irritation over the fact.

The matter of the troubled Octillery having been dealt with, Andrew returned his thoughts to the mission he had been given, and had a plan in mind.

The thought of riding the Octillery wasn't particularly appealing to Katsu, nor was it to either of his Pokemon, with Kiba naturally feeling a bit uncomfortable given that it had tried to kill him a little while ago, and Flandre still looking extremely bitter about the aforementioned fact. However, he reasoned that Andrew knew best, considering his recent revelation that he was a former ranger, and gave his response accordingly.

"I guess we might as well.", he replied, with a hint of reluctance. "You're okay with that, right, Kiba?", he asked, the Electrike nodding his head after a moment of hesitation. "How about you, Flandre?", he then asked to the Charmander, who was scowling at their would-be ride. Her response, as he might've predicted, was a quick shake of her head. "Well, I guess you can cool off a little in your Pokeball while we ride to the port, then. It's for the best, anyways, considering the danger that water poses to your kind". After recalling his irate Fire-type, Katsu headed over to Andrew and the Octillery, with Kiba in tow. He hoped there wouldn't be any more trouble, as after all, he had come to the beach to relax...

Shadow: Questioning your position, you relay your plans to the quartet as they nod, before heading down the path to the right, towards the lifeforms, Mango preparing for any possible hostile encounter with sleep-inducing energy prepped. As you head down, you turn the corner to notice the lifeforms mentioned by Jason: Several Krabby and Corphish in a large metal cage, their claws bound in rags, each one looking as miserable as the one beside it. Looking towards Jason, you notice his hands clench into fists as he tries to suppress his rage before he motions for you to follow quickly, in case the smugglers come. Fortunately, your choice of path was correct for a few seconds later Medicham gives a nod with some psychic communications stating the all-clear.

“Who the hell would do such a thing to innocent Pokémon like those crustaceans...” Jason hisses as Mango merely rubs her bald head, giving a quiet ‘Quag’ as she does so, before your group continues through some more tunnels, noting more caged water Pokémon: Goldeen in a shallow tank, Psyduck huddled awkwardly around each other, and even some Staryu, gems glowing faintly in sadness. Your shock is only strengthened when you notice a few Wooper and a Quagsire cramped in a cage several sizes too small for them, their silent groans of pain making Mango’s eyes tear up at the treatment. Eventually you reach an upper cliff region with lapping water, and from your vantage point you lay witness to a sight that makes your stomach churn slightly, as Jason gives a gasp.

Two trawlers, each one laden with Pokémon imprisoned within cages, and several dozen men in the area armed with batons and other assorted thuggish weaponry, each looking out of the bay where a small blip on the horizon can be noticed. Further from the waters, some Pokémon in chains are frog-marched into a cage, with one straggling Marill being beat relentlessly when it trips by two of the smugglers, its cries of pain being silenced by the brutal clubbing and the body tossed to a larger canine who savages it, blood and body parts flying everywhere as the Mightyena tears the poor creature limb from limb, the other Marill in the chain giving horrified squeaks before being kicked into the cage as it is shut viciously, smacking into the faces of two of the mice as they start to cry before the same Mightyena growls satirically at them, silencing the water Pokémon.

“This is beyond horrible...” Jason can only whisper hoarsely as you turn to him to notice the tears streaming from the eyes before a rather angry shout makes you look back down in surprise as your ears register the words “Intruders in the bay,” and before you know it, Mango and medicham are dragging you and Jason along the cliff as amber lights flash from the beacons, Jason ceasing his tears as you wonder what spotted you. Eventually you stop at another junction, this time two smugglers standing in front of you, their strange mushroom-domed hair an alarming turquoise as Jason gives a nasty leer as you notice their unusual dress style.

“I never would have thought for a minute that Team Galactic had a base of operations here, but whatever you’re doing here, you will stop at once and leave!” he roars as he nods towards Medicham as the grunts release a similar Mightyena and a rather unusual floating Pokémon, its corroded copper body and golden eyes flanked by a number of metal orbs as the Bronzor frowns at you and Jason, the grunts clearly stooping for a fight.

Rakurai: At the unorthodox offer, you accept with some reluctance as Kiba follows suit, while returning Flandre due to her natural hatred of all things liquidy and evil looking to fire as Andrew calls Machoke and Wingull onto the Octillery’s massive tentacles before you carefully clamber on, holding onto Kiba as Andrew gives but a nod towards the ocean as Octillery hauls itself off the beach and swims leisurely alongside the beach, although to you it seems as though you might as well be on the back of a charging Sharpedo as the massive girth gives the octopus much greater acceleration.

After ten minutes of travel, you notice a dock as Andrew gives a nod to the beast as it beaches itself once more, scaring a few tourists as Andrew gives a small apology as you get off the creature and as Andrew turns to it and thanks it, the Octillery gives a gurgle before swimming back out and a few minutes later vanishes into the depths from whence it came as you head to the dock. As Andrew hope onto a rather small cruiser, the boat having a strange device somewhat similar to a petrol pump in the cabin, a flash of light releases the pained Mirror as it calls forth Kiba to the pump, taking two dispensers from it and placing one on the Electrike’s shoulder before Machoke helps by pulling a lever on top, a surge of energy bursting through the pipe into Kiba and Mirror as the two seem to be getting better.

“Volcanity Inc recognises the work we rangers do and donated these healing mechanisms to us. Mirror’ll take a few minutes more, but your pal should be alright.” Andrew explains as he heads into another part of the cabin, a few orders to cast off given to Machoke and Wingull as they head to the deck. Shortly afterwards, Kiba darts back to you, ooking much more refreshed as Mirror nods in relief at the medical help before pointing a hand towards a board explaining a few things to cast off and set sail.

“It shouldn’t take long now, Katsu, so just relax a bit. I’ll see if Goose is cracking around, he’s a great help to me on these rescues.”

As you wonder if you should look around the ship, Henry the Wingull gives a startled squawk as you look out the cabin to see a few other Wingull circling him, casting dirty looks as the bird stands nervously on the deck, clearly somewhat bothered as Andrew gets busy with some dials.

    What will you do?

Centin: The situation clear at hand, you send Skarsvalg back out, who appears looking bewildered but relieved he isn’t buried under rock before you notion towards the Steelix as the Whiscash takes on a determined look before spewing forth a number of orbs of water around the cave, the waters splashing onto the floors as the Steelix huckles to itself from bemusement until the power gem from Probopass beans it in the face, and although not a very hefty blow by any standards, it is enough to make the iron snake grit its teeth in irritation as it exhales a brutal dragonbreath at the nose Pokémon, who simply hunkers down and takes it like a proper tank, before shaking the draconic flames away with but a sneeze.

By the time Probopass is finished, however, Skarsvalg’s pulse action from the supersonic water balls exploding gives the Steelix some slight confusion as it questions the strange sounds before the hardened mud bomb from Skarsvalg splats hard into its left eye, causing it to screech in pain as it it blinded in the left receptacle, giving the Probopass enough leeway to launch the magnet bomb towards the beast, whose metallic hide doesn’t help him in the least as the missile immediately slams and bursts on it, before the Steelix counters by sweeping its iron tail across the room, catching Skarsvalg and the Probopass and knocking them back before striking the wall, knocking a few larger rocks and stalactites down as you dive for cover.

“WE CANNOT AFFORD TOO MUCH DAMAGE TO THIS ROOM OR WE WILL BE FLATTENED.” The Probopass states iin warning as you acknowledge the Steelix’s intent on making you squirm in death.

...when Custard’s blizzard washes over the dragon, causing it to elicit a massive roar of pain that has you holding your ears from the sudden outburst as the dragon’s massive elemental weakness to the cold strikes it where it hurts, and even as the chill dies down you can see freezer burns over much of the dragon, who seems much more pained after that attack.

Jessica bit her lip as she looked down over the scene, keeping her hand on Tessie’s neck. They were almost there, just a little more, she had to hold on just a little longer.

As Custard took off from the sea, Haruki stayed behind, reassigning his efforts towards recovery. Custard charged towards the dragon hovering in midair, who responded with but a sneer, revolving with the wind in a violent war dance. As it broke from the cycle and roared mightily, it turned towards the rig with a wicked gleam in its eye, raising a burnished claw with sheer intent to rip Tessie to shreds.

Suddenly, there was a loud shriek. Not from her, but from the dragon. Custard had triumphantly emerged to blast the beast with a deluge of snow, the resulting screeches of pain so strident that Jessica was forced to defend her ears. As the snow screamed down, it left the targeted creature fuming and frostbitten. Without pause, Custard nodded to Haruki and seized the dragon by its frozen limbs, prepared to hurl the beast down to a watery greeting from his partner, who waited watchfully for his recipient below.

Hardly inclined to go down without a fight, the dragon snarled and Jessica suddenly noticed the flames licking its razor teeth. She cried out to Custard, but it was too late. The monster twisted its neck around and savagely sank its blazing fang deep into Custard’s shoulder, educing anguished flails and squawks. Caught in the beast’s trap, the penguin was completely powerless as his captor jerked him wildly around like a chew toy, finally spitting him out towards the ship. He landed with a brutal crash on the deck, smoke rising from his body like a crater impact, patches of pure white down tainted with dark splashes that matched his lower plumage. She screamed out his name, suppressing her tears, receiving no reply.

She watched with horror as the dragon dropped, prepared to collide with the rig itself. Luckily, the subtracted distance allowed for Haruki’s intervention, a jet of water bursting into the self-lowered target: an effective distraction. Too effective. The dragon screeched, readdressing its murderous intent to Haruki. It dived, rushing at its new target with the single-minded aggression of a freight train. It drove its hostility into the water right before the floundering Corsola, the impact so tremendous that a towering fountain of liquid erupted, delaying Jessica’s view of the outcome.

As the plumes tumbled back to the sea, they left the dragon elated above the surface, with Haruki viciously clamped inside its jaws. Jessica winced, looking on the scene helplessly as the beast’s incisors attempted to crush her Pokémon’s stony carapace. To her relief, however, she noticed frost and snow begin to gather around Haruki’s bulk, exploding suddenly into a frozen saw-toothed blade that plunged straight down the dragon’s gullet. The beast coughed and sputtered, quickly spitting out the popsicle; Haruki landed on the rig, thankfully caught in Jess’s arms.

The dragon wheezed in intense agony as clutched its burning, petrified throat, thirstily gasping for air. It spun wildly around and shot a look of snow at the group, its eyes gleaming feverishly with fire and ice. Rearing back, it screamed as it unleashed its energy and rage all at once, prepared to strike down the platform with all the force that it can muster. Even with Bobble’s protection, it was certain it wouldn’t be enough to preserve the machine itself from breaking, thereby releasing its cargo back into the water. Jessica held onto Tess tightly, both of them helpless and terrified as they awaited certain doom. She could hear the song tremble through her heart, mournful and plaintive: dolente.

A hiss of shock and anger surprised her instead, and she glanced up to realize that the dragon was instead being forcibly restrained by a familiar Empoleon, its injured wing twisting the captive’s arm in payback. Its eyes glanced towards Bobble, who gave an affirming nod. Bobble raised his shield in anticipation, and the penguin hurled the monster down towards the rig, glancing off the wall with considerably less force. While the machine creaked and groaned slightly, it soon adjusted, settling quietly, and Jessica breathed a sigh of relief as she watched the dragon fall dramatically into the water. It rose, and she smiled as its bruised wings confirmed its grounded (or rather anchored) position.
Surveying the remains of her team, she bit her lip and restrained tears as she briefly examined their wounds. Bobble technically seemed fine, he was merely exhausted. Haruki’s beautiful blue coating now appeared faintly chipped and cracked, though he assured her it would grow back, and that the beast hadn’t penetrated into any soft tissue.

As she sighed with muted relief, she felt a sudden jerk, and looked up to see two faces: the man with the crescent fillet she saw earlier, and another whose band substituted a red cross. A Misdreavus hovered by the second, its pearls glowing as a familiar voice spoke subtly within Jess’s mind:

“The danger is over for now, miss, look for yourself.”

She turned towards the trawler, watching with a sense of triumph as the vessel crawled away, the men and Pokémon on board shouting resentful curses at her for ruining their plan. She shuddered, and turned back to Tessie, who was being helped aboard by the Empoleon. She closed her eyes and listened to the song again: It was soothing, apaisé. She opened them and saw that Misdreavus was listening to the song too. Its expression was anguished by the melody, its half-moon eyes moved to tears as it absorbed the pain into its own phantom heart.

“It’s not went in too deep, thankfully, and seems to have missed hitting any critical veins or nerves. This little girl will survive.”

Jessica turned to the man with the armband, who efficiently took out a small knife from a first aid kit, setting immediately to work on Tessie’s flipper. Jessica watched this action, feeling a little envious, wishing she could do something herself to help her Pokémon. She knew it would be best to leave her friend in more professional care though, and was grateful for the strangers’ help.

As she stepped onto the deck, Jessica took note of a Raichu standing nearby unassumingly, the same one from before who took down Scyther. It grinned quietly, wearing a thin scar across its chest as proof of its victory. She heard a tired squawk, and spun to see Custard limping towards her, smiling to see that his friends were all right. She ran to him and gently embraced him, thanking him and all her teammates for their help. She recalled each of them except for Tessie, relieved to finally allow the three some rest.

She heard a rough scraping sound, of metal striking metal, the grating tone surprisingly combined with a melody of hope and joy. She turned to see the bloodied harpoon lying abandoned on the deck, with Tessie purring softly beside it as the medic treated her wound with care. Jessica smiled, and then felt a tap on her shoulder. Whirling around, she confronted the other man who had released the Empoleon.

Jessica nodded in thanks to the man’s offer, then took a moment to ponder the rest of his speech. While these men had already proven themselves more than worthy of her trust, she had to wonder who they were exactly, and what their purposes for being here were. Just what sort of cult did these people belong to? Before she could have those questions answered, Jess realized that she had to respectfully satisfy her savior’s curiosity first.

“Um, I just came here to explore with my Lapras. That’s all. We heard about a mysterious wreckage offshore, and thought it might be fun to explore it together. I apologize for my foolhardiness…” She hung her head a little, the consequences of her careless decision sinking in. She averted her eyes, gazing sadly towards her Lapras, the one for whom she had planned this whole vacation. Tessie caught her trainer’s eye and smiled, whistling a soft tune. Jessica weakly smiled back, and turned again to the cultist.

“Thank you so much for saving us. I don’t know what we would’ve done had you not been there. …Er, so then, may I also ask: Who are you people? I’m sorry, but I overheard your conversation earlier. Are you two looking for Lapras shells inside this ship?”

Team Galactic. Out of the few datafiles he had on Sinnoh, Shadow had heard mention of the strangely attired and dressed group, whose sinisterly ambiguous aims made up for their bizarre fashion senses. Reports had suggested that they were after various energy sources; to what end no one had any idea. So what were they doing here with a facility for exploitatively harvesting Pokemon?

His hand tensing over his belt while he sized up the opposition, Shadow suddenly realised that Mango was standing alongside Medicham; her flippery hands balled up in raised fists as she glared with uncharacteristic ferocity at her enemies. It dawned quickly on the scientist: the sight of the captive Wooper and Quagsire had made the mission all the more personal for Mango.

"Alright then. I'll hold off Bronzor while you and Medicham polish up that Mightyena quick as you can," hissed Shadow to Jason. "Mango, float a Sweet Scent over to Bronzor, then run up for a Rock Smash on its nose. Finish with an Aqua Tail to the same spot."
