My favorite scene was when Aya was revealed to be a fake and Koga was the real Gym Leader, but his fight with Ash didn't deserve the interruption.

Ugh, Janine from the games would've been better than Aya here. The actual Gym battle portion itself was decent and Psyduck showed the first of its psychic powers, so kudos to him. And the Fuchsia Gym's traps were trollish.

Anzu/Janine didn't even exist during the Kanto era, though. She was specifically created for the Jouto games a year or so after this episode aired. So Aya was the best we could get here.

Cool episode because ninjas are so fun, but sometimes I think they get stereotyped. The good thing is that they can manage to make a character look so serious even though there are some that are just plain old lame.

Aya and Koga looked serious here, though I'd consider them to be mediocre anyway. Especially Koga with his weak roster.

Aya seemed so bossy with how she was acting like she owned the Gym. Ash Vs. Koga was so disappointing though since it felt so abrupt.

Aya did seem really egocentric up until Koga came and put her in her place, though she had the best ninja costume of the two.

I watched this episode again last night and noticed how 4kids left the Japanese writing on a scroll, had Team Rocket mention a Japanese restaurant and even kept the kabuki scene, which was a shock given how they loved editing Japanese things.

It was probably done because of how this episode had so many Japanese things going on already, such as ninja, so 4Kids didn't want to bother hiding the Japanese themes.

Koga was a weak Gym Leader but boy did he have a cool Gym with traps which seemed like a funhouse. The TRio's kabuki motto performance scene had me laughing.
