Yeah, I completely agree. Imo, I think that a really big opportunity for Misty to get Golduck was wasted there, which could have a lot of potential.Yea Golduck would've made her team much stronger but then again Misty hardly ever battled so it might have gone to waste. ^^;

She definitely had more battles than any male traveling companion received and counting all battles she had in both OS and chronicles, it was actually more than what even Iris received.
Remembering several memtrable matches during her run like against arrogant trainer Andreas from Seaking tournament, Delaney and his Poliwrath, Coastline gym leader Dorian from Johto, Marcellus who used Remoraid, Trinity and Harrison during Whirl Cup. Marina from this episode, pirates who wanted to kidnap Ash Lapras, various trainers like Joe and Giselle from pokemon school, Bike bridge gang when challenging girl with Cloyster, all those girls she fought in Princess festival etc.
Or various wild pokemon such as Odish, Clefairy, Macargo, Sneasel etc. Not to mention often teaming up with Ash in battling Jessie and James, sometime Meowth becoming especially frequent in Johto saga.
So if her Psyduck evolved it would had chance to shine and battle, especially during Johto series adding great powerhouse to her team, Not that Poliwhirl or Staru werent good as well imo and Corsola helped in adding more variety to her team.
I have to admit when i watched "Bye Bye Psyduck!" for first time i was tricked in actually believing Misty Psyduck evolved as well, just to end up being proven wrong.
Still it was excellent episode regardless imo enjoying in Misty such rich characterization which helped carry out this episode and revealing some impressive skills in commandng Golduck so well. Something Marina as another water expert noticed herself.
Who knows maybe her Psyduck evolves one day and we get chance to see it battle in some tournament or against other trainers. Though i like her Psyduck with his clueless, dimwitted personality giving him lot of charm. That is if Misty ever returns again.

Not to mention writers probably left Psyduck unevolved because his handicap and pretty tense relationship it had with trainer served as platform for build up of close bond and care between Misty and her pokemon. That can be noticed in Misty growing over her prejudices and irritaton accepting Psyduck for who he is despite beig handicapped.
To point of Misty actually risking her life in late Johto by pushing Psyduck to side in saving him from TR crab machine whose whirlpool sucked her in instead. Something Misty would have never done earlier growing to really care for this pokemon.
Writers probably thought how if it evolved in Golduck it would've defeated purpose of development in Misty growing to accept Psyduck in its current form. With new design and look failing to authentically capture problems it had in unevolved form.
So i think writers may have felt there existed unfinished work there. Still opening chance for more development in Misty learning how to overcome Psyduck inability to battle and swim making massive step forward as water trainer in realizing how to bring her pokemon full power on surface with eventual evolution serving as testament to that. Kinda expected from those who wish to become water pokemon master.
Psyduck was also one of, if not the most popular pokemon Misty had because of his personality, great interactions it had with trainer and impressive uniqueness. In having incredibly big psychic powers no other Psyduck showed to posess capable of knocking down any pokemon with just 1 move.
Possibly playing factor behind not evolving as well at that time in fear of losing its popularity.
p.,s. Afterall if writers felt that Misty isn't active enough to justify giving her Golduck they as one who were writing for her would increased her focus if needed. And they wouldn't evolve her Poliwag to Politoed than.

I don't think that it would be good if Golduck stayed with Misty. She was never that much of a battler, and I think that I'd prefer Psyduck staying with Misty because of how hilarious they are together.
I still like Golduck, I just don't think it would have been the best thing for Misty if she kept it.
I'm glad Misty didn't keep Golduck now since knowing her, she'd rarely use it since she hardly battled.
Sometime I do wander if anyone ever reads my posts?
Because last time I checked putting May, Dawn(if counting contests) and Ash aside. Misty battled more often than any other Ash traveling companion. With her battling record becoming especially noticeable in Johto. But she was hardly inactive in Kanto as well using her pokemon like Staryu, Starmie(before being left at gym) or Psyduck(most of time unwillingly but still) a lot more often than what people remember.
Yet all I hear is how "Misty never battled".
Its like people consciously didn't wanted that Misty gets more character development, chance to evolve her pokemon team and be explored further. Both in emotional sense having several unanswered questions about her past, but as trainer too in her dreams of becoming water pokemon master having material and substance to be done more about it.
Despite writers proving as they gained more experience how they can do more and better out of Misty story not being fair to judge her potential by what she got in early days and disregard any opportunity to elevate her as trainer more through evolution or capture of new pokemon. Especially when writers were inexperienced at that time still pondering what to make out of this anime.
Because more emphasis in general was put on Misty personality growth during OS. With her water related dreams not starting to be given bigger attention until Johto(especially in master Quest) and later chronicles.
Personally if this episode proved me something is how I definitely don't think Golduck being given to Misty would be mistake. She is water specialist. Her passion are water pokemon wanting to become best with them achieving status of master. She showed to be smart and skilled trainer coming up with creative solutions being complimented by Marina in how flexible she was in controlling that wild Golduck and if this episode showed something. Its definitely how Misty has strength and stamina to really shine and be memorable when she's in her own element having lot of untapped potential. Potential which is still there.
Although if there was ever decision that Misty receives Golduck. It would make far more sense that she received it through evolution of her Psyduck instead of keeping that wild one. Reflecting her growth as trainer while not necessarily taking away from comedy and silly antics it was capable of producing as Psyduck in its interactions with Misty. With only change being in becoming after evolution more useful in battles.

Damn it. I had wanted the Golduck to stay with Misty. Marina was such a liar also when she explained about Psyduck's red tail glow...
Great episode. My favorite parts were when Golduck left Misty to impress the girls and when Misty mentioned Brock when Golduck flirted.
Like, this has to be my fave Orange Islands episode. I liked seeing Misty and Marina go crazy over Water Pokemon, and Golduck was absolutely epic. But poor Misty, she thought Psyduck had evolved and too bad it didn't. It would've been nice to see it evolve...
Tsubaki was such a braggart and a liar. She got Kasumi's hopes up regarding Koduck's evolution, yet it didn't even happen. That said, I actually enjoyed watching the wild Golduck team up with Kasumi. The battle between Kasumi and Tsubaki itself was decent, even though it had no proper conclusion.
I loved how Misty and the new trainer Marina got along and liked talking about Water type Pokemon and Ash was annoyed by it. And as much as I love Psyduck, it would've been nice to see it evolve and finally know how to swim. Misty's reaction at the end upon realizing she fell for a Pokemon version of Brock was very hilarious, it was almost like payback for all those times she carted away Brock and complained about Psyduck.
