This episode was alright, Cyndaquil is cute. I'm glad Ash caught it and not that other jerk of a trainer.

I think Cyndaquil was like the underdog of Ash's party during Johto and in some way, it maybe was good to change Charizard for a newer Pokémon.

Exactly. This is why I liked some of Johto's battle episodes more than Kanto's. Real trainers and real interesting battles.

Episodes like these make me really annoyed of Team Rocket. It was funny how they left Brock and Misty realizing that Ash and Pikachu weren't with them. But, yay. Ash got a Cyndaquil.

Hinoarashi's performance certainly at a top draw as he defeated Sandpan. Good to see that it did not follow Yuji at the end. Probably he will going to abuse Hinoarashi because he used the net and tried for force it to follow him. Which somehow makes Yuji nothing more different than Rocket Dan by the way he catches it.

Why was the COTD in this episode talking like the Cyndaquil was the only one, when he was the one who said there's supposed to be wild Cyndaquil roaming the forest, indicating there's more than just the one him and Ash were after?

I really liked Team Rocket's flashbacks to their previous jobs here; seeing Jessie work at a fast food place and eat a burger made me cackle. Anyway, Team Rocket's giant Meowth mecha was actually pretty competent, and seeing Ash's Cyndaquil battle that guy's Sandslash at the end of the episode was pretty cool.

With Ash using Cyndaquil against some guy's (the guy that competed with Ash for the Cyndaquil) Sandslash, there was an obvious type disadvantage but very unexpectedly (for me), defeated the Sandslash.

The team rocket flashback scenes were so touching in this episode. Also Ash competing with the other trainer was a great episode idea, it made me cheer for ash and I was happy when he succeeded

Cyndaquil was awesome here and TR's gum throwing mecha was epic lol. I kind of liked the jerk Sandslash dude, though.

Cyndaquil was so cute so I was pleased that Ash caught one here and defeated that Sandslash trainer as well. I liked the Meowth mecha that Team Rocket used here too especially how it fired bubblegum.

Cyndaquil was my favorite Johto beginner Pokemon, so I was proud when Ash caught it + I didn't know Team Rocket had secondary jobs.

So we got glimpses of how the TRio makes extra money and saw Ash catch Cyndaquil and fight that Sandslash trainer. Pretty cool episode. 9/10

I was so happy when our beloved Ash caught Cyndaquil. That jerk trainer with the Sandslash probably would have abused it anyway hmph. Cyndaquil seemed so cute, like, it would've been such a shame to see it with such a cruel trainer. :x

Yuuji was a contemptible person, which is why I thought that he should've had the role of Satoshi's Jouto rival, but he was just a one-off character. I thought that Satoshi capturing Hinoarashi during the Rocket-dan's scheme was an intelligent way of protecting it, and Hinoarashi defeating Yuuji's Sandpan was amazing.

Hee hee, me neither but I'm glad that we saw how they spend their extra time offscreen. I guess Giovanni just can't pay for all their expenses himself.

We had seen Musashi, Kojirou, and Nyasu do odd jobs in the past, though. In fact, I'm pretty sure that we had also known that Sakaki gives them very little money, and that their budget has always been small while in the Rocket-dan.

It was so epic to see Ash catch a Cyndaquil, which is one of my favorite Fire-type Pokemon ever! I liked how Ash actually went out searching for a Cyndaquil and catching one instead of meeting it along side the road or having it challenge him to a battle before he catches it or whatever, and it was also great to see that he caught an extra special Cyndaquil since this one has excellent speed prowess and defense.

Not a bad episode, I remember loving it for finally giving Sandslash a proper animated role at last (even if it was mostly to get jobbed by Cyndaquil).

This episode had a rather similar structure to Charmander's debut, with a rather one note jerk COTD taking role of main plot antagonist, and TR playing parts in between as more powerful, but ironically more likeable villains. For extra points though, they even make Yuji collateral damage at one point. The Meowthinator mech still stands as one of their best this episode, and I loved the funny flashback exposition to how they got the funding for it, which would be a play into the trio's standard life for many episodes to come.

Cyndaquil inevitably takes to Ash more due to him being selfless and caring about it more than capturing it, so on, so on, so on... (granted in this case it was never connected to the other trainer to begin with).

On a minor note, I liked how Misty and Brock actually stood up for Ash against Yuji at the start of the episode. It seems his Kanto days as a no respect guy were gone at last.

Me too lol. For once we saw Ash go on a planned capture spree, which he never did before IIRC.

Great episode. The Sandslash trainer was a total jerk. Glad he got burnt to a crisp in the end. Team Rocket was a little silly throughout the episode, being inside the Meowth Robot. Good on Ash for catching a new Fire-type starter, Cyndaquil.
