So true, I love that expression on it's face!

This episode was actually alright until the end. Loved how Team Rocket tried stealing the food. The battle was horrible on so many levels. First of all, as many people have said, a one on three battle is completely unfair. I also think they tried to rush it because a Pokémon like Miltank would not get KOd with one hit from Pikachu. This battle was nowhere near as good as the previous one and was edging towards being mediocre. The badge was probably more undeserved than his old Kanto ones that he mostly didn't even battle for.

While it is still very debatable if this badge was undeserved or deserved, It is noticeable that Ash really made some huge improvements if you compare his battle strategies from Kanto to Johto. That tactic to defeat Miltank was superbly executed.

So in the anime this is the closest we get to see Pikachu eating cheese, which as a mouse should come natural for it.

A nice episode of Whitney giving a tour around the farm. The ending did seem unfair now that I think about it, But Ash was pretty smart using the terrain to his advantage by coming up with the ditches.

I want to taste something from a Miltank. If I'm correct, this is the second "Gym battle" that was held outside the Gym. If only Whitney cried in the anime like she did in the games.

It was nice to see the whole Miltank farm thing from the games incorporated into this episode. There were some great moments on the farm IMO, such as Ash and co.'s reaction to drinking the milk and how Ash was attacked by a Miltank after grabbing its tail. I think Jessie also said something about being "Wobbuffet intolerant", heh.

In regards to the Ash vs Whitney battle, I liked the strategy that Ash used. I liked how each of his Pokemon had a role in executing the strategy - Cyndaquil tired Miltank out, Totodile made the ditches, Pikachu finished Miltank off. I've always thought that using ditches was an interesting way in which to deal with Miltank's Rollout. Though, I must say that I was surprised that Miltank went down to just one Electric attack from Pikachu.

I never payed much attention (or really noticed) to the fact that the battle was 3 vs 1 until reading this thread. I guess it just never bothered me that much.

    Me too, sort of.
I did notice it was a 3-on-1 match, but I didn't really think about whether or not it was fair or unfair.

I just noticed something. Anime Whitney is different from game Whitney.
Anime Whitney happy to give Ash the badge. Game Whitney is all "YOU'LL GET THIS BADGE UNLESS YOU CAN PRY IT FROM MY COLD, DEAD HANDS!!!!!"

I liked how Ash's strategy for dealing with Whitney's Miltank's Rollout was influenced by Team rocket, which kind of made them important. I didn't think Ash deserved to win the Plain badge just by defeating Miltank tho.

Lol why not? He showed Whitney that his tactic was better than hers and won against her ace mon, so he deserved the badge...

    I just felt that it should've been 1 vs 1 or 3 vs 3 like it was in the previous episode to be more balanced and fair, but Ash used 3 pokemon against Whitney's Miltank which gave him a big advantage. ^^;

Whitney losing here was sweet justice for how Ash lost at Goldenrod's Gym. The TRio mecha influencing Ash's battle strategy was ironic. 8/10

I agree. this episode had everything.

Whitney's Miltank finally receiving a taste of her own medicine made me happy. Ash's battle formula for beating her was simple yet very clever.

Ugh, the 3-on-1 battle always seemed a little cheap to me, which is why I didn't think too highly of this episode. The idea was pretty cool after defeating Team Rocket's latest mecha, but to make the battle a 3-on-1 turns me off to it. :/

I enjoyed the aftermath of Satoshi's Gym battle with Akane, especially watching him question his own ambitions. Howard's Miltank farm was a pleasant location, although as usual, the Rocket-dan had to show up and ruin the peace. Thankfully, they unwittingly helped Satoshi beat Akane's Miltank.

This episode was bad. Instead of Ash learning from his loss against Whitney and training to get better, he basically sat back and let DEM guide him to victory.

Fair episode. Team Rocket was funny in the episode, especially on them trying to steal the food. Ash definitely used strategy with regards to the terrain to defeat Whitney. As for the unfair advantage that Ash had over Whitney, it was unfair at the time, but ultimately, the gym leaders decides the rules and deems whether or not the challenger is worthy of the badge.

Good episode. I found TRio's antics to be annoying, but at least Ash came up with an idea to stop Rollout thanks to their mecha. Ash having Totodile alter the terrain to slow Miltank down was a smart idea. I believe Whitney decided to give Ash the Plain Badge because her remaining two Pokemon were just fodder.

This is likely true, because as we saw in the Kogane Gym, Akane's Pippi was kind of a coward who disliked serious battles, and Akane's Nidorina was pretty weak as well. So Akane probably just conceded the faux-Gym match here when her Miltank was defeated.
