In Petalburg City, Ash decides to head for the gym but May heads elsewhere. Entering the gym he discovers a young boy named Max claiming to be the Gym Leader...Ash doesnt believe this especially when May turns up claiming that Max is her brother. It turns out Norman, May's father owns the gym and only does 3 on 3 battles. Ash doesn't have enough Pokémon but asks to have a Practice Match...Who Will win?

The first Advanced Ep I've seen since my cable company picked WB up the day before the Friday Encore.
A good intro for May and Max for me, the battle was cool against Pika and Vigoroth.

I totally think that Ash could have done much better in this battle! Pikachu should have used Quick Attack loads and avoided Vigoroth's Scratch. Thunderbolt never hit Vigoroth in this battle which I thought was a lil shocking.
well it was really good that Pikachu did that bad against Norman because it pumped up Ash to train hard with his pokemon and Vigoroth was completely new for Ash and he didn't knew what to expect from this pokemon.
I thought max pretending to be the gymleader was hilarious and especially the fights between them was great !! I loved it!!!

One of my favorite Hoenn eppies! Max was hilarious in his debut; constantly getting attacked by Torchic and calling Ash, 'Alf'.And I guess you could say that Ash was smarter than usual by warning May and the others about the pitfall traps(but they fell for it anyways). Pikachu vs. Vigoroth was alright; seeing as Ash didn't know what to expect from Vigoroth. Overall; 8/10

I love how Ash tried to warn them about the pitfalls... always has me laughing and I've seen that episode five times.
Max annoyed me at first but I got used him within two minutes...
I was so happy watching this episode and seeing May's family. The Ash and Max interaction was funny, and I liked it when Ash found out he was May's brother!
Man, they should start showing these over again! I just love AG.

This episode was great. I especially loved the battle Ash and Norman had. I really love AG and I have never missed an episode.
It's a real bummer I missed this episode. From the sounds of things, you guys thought it was funny. I also would have liked to see the battle between Pikachu and Vigoroth. It made sense that Ash lost. He didn't know what type Vigoroth was, or what attacks it knew. Even against Pikachu, Norman's Vigoroth can be deadly powerful.

Life's a party
It's funny how I didn't like Max the first time I saw him in this episode. I quickly grew to like the kid, and I think he's been a great addition to the show. I've watched the episode about three times now, and it still cracks me up during Max's first meeting with Ash when he's getting Ash's name and everything wrong. LOL

It only made sense for Ash to lose miserably so Pikachu could kick Vigoroth's sorry tail later on in the rematch.
This one has to be one of my favorite episodes ever though ... I liked the introduction on Max. He mad a good impression on me. Haha. I found him very humorous and I was happy that he ended up traveling with Ash and May at the end.
Hoenn Champion
This was the first AG episode I ever saw. And it was a great one at that! The Ash vs Norman battle was cool; Ash learned Hoenn wouldn't be easy. Max was just hilarious! I also liked Norman & Caroline. Hehe... Everyone know the saying, "It runs in the family?" That was exactly what happened when May, Max, Norman, & Caroline ran then fell in TR's holes! XD! The music sounded so serious during that part, too! XD! I've watched this episode everyday for the first two months after I recorded it. ^^ And I STILL watch it!

It was funny when May said Amber and a picture of a mushroom was shown. I didn't like this episode too much since Max came along...not a big fan of him.

I can explain that, in the Japanese version, Ember is called Hinoko (literal:child of fire). May in the original told her Torchic to use Kinoko (Mushroom). So it's a visual pun...that 4Kids tried to get around. They have that as an avatar now you know!
Yeah this was a great episode and yes I'll even admit it was funny. and let me tell you I rarely laugh in Pokemon. All I gotta say is for the Pokemon battle with May's dad, nice job Alf. I liked when Max kept rubbing in at the fact that Alf (Ash) lost in the Pokemon leauge. lol! it's nice to see Alf irritated sometimes. Oops I meant Ash.
