A really good episode one I missed for the 1st 2 times it was on. My fave bit was when May tried to attack Drew it's really funny oh and I also thought the fireworks at the end of the episode was cool as well.
Claiming is overrated, can be fun sometimes but others silly. I only claimed Henry Cavill as no one really knows him.

Oh yeah and i'm paired up with the cool Chuboy.

Claimed Henry Cavill on the Celebrity Claiming thread...he's all mine muh ha ha ha ha...^^;.

Drew makes his debut!! That was a good part, and brought up the quality of this eppie. Ash and May battling is something I do and always will enjoy. Reference from the game is great(Bluk Berries)!!

Overall rating:
8.0 out of 10!!
Not too shabby. I'm hoping for more episodes that have reference to the game like this.
Most Recent Works:

Hoenn's Legacy - An epic of the destruction of Hoenn, the rebuilding of it, and the second destruction. War story, rated TV-14 for Violence.

Skitoma - A story of love between two Wurmple unfamiliar with the concept. Rated PG for slight adult themes.

Ficubes made by me.

Someone gave me a keychain once that said "You're depriving some poor village of it's idiot." I thought it was a joke but no one else laughed

I love Drew, so I love this episode! ^.^ I liked how he was mean to May but then helped her fight Team Rocket. May's reaction to Drew was just so cute. ^^

Since Torchic likes Bluk berries, do you think she (I think it's a girl) likes blue pokeblocks?

Good episode, seen it in Dutch today and Drew's dutch voice really fits it. Also good to see that May vs Drew battle and Torchic eating those berries was sweet too (well the pic I mean!)
A nice episode for May's training. It's good to see she's already training hard for her first contest

Ugh, introduction of one of my least favorite characters in the series. I could never stand those obessively egotisical trainers and Shuu takes the cake. Only good thing I got out of this episode was Haruka developing a more competetive side and seeing Subame get a victory in battle.

Default Script!

As if it hadn't already been clear just how much free time I have on my hands, I wrote out a complete script for this episode. Should be useful for research purposes, ne? To be on-topic, though, here's my mini-review first:

- Torchic is so sweet it almost gave me cavities.

- Drew is SUCH a prat. *loves*

- Pokemopolis would have a field day with this episode. The group is propositioned by an, erm, interestingly over-friendly man who invites the kids back to his shop because he has "a surprise" for them. And May and Max both seem to have a crush on him. Oh, and he calls himself "Mr. Big". My my.

Right, onto the script.

---

*Opening shot of the Slateport Pokémon Centre on top of a cliff.*

NARRATOR:
Upon arrival to Slateport City, the first stop for our heroes is the Pokémon Centre.

*Panning shot of the inside of the Centre, where dozens of trainers are tending to their Pokémon. A man signals, and his Kecleon vanishes.*

NARRATOR:
That’s where May and lots of other excited Pokémon trainers have gathered to register for entry in the Pokémon contest.

*Cut to ASH, MAY, BROCK and MAX, walking through the room.*

ASH:
Everyone’s so psyched!

PIKACHU:
Pika pika!

MAY:
Including me! Remember, there are just two weeks ‘til the Pokémon contest opens.

BROCK:
Right. So it makes sense that everyone came early to get in some practice.

MAX:
They all look really good. May, are you ready for this?

ASH:
Two weeks isn’t that much time, you know.

MAY:
No problemo! …Although some practice couldn’t hurt…

*The theme tune plays.*

---

Now That’s Flower Power!

*The camera pans down over the ocean and the beach.*

BROCK:
Just how I imagined it. Slateport City’s got beautiful beaches.

*Shot of ASH, MAY, BROCK and MAX standing on the beach.*

BROCK:
Not to mention all the beautiful girls!

MAX:
Yeah, who cares? Let’s swim!

MAY:
First things first. I think I’ll do a little bit of practicing.

ASH:
Hey, good idea, May.

MAY:
And first up, my stunning preliminary performance!

*MAY runs forward and holds out BEAUTIFLY’s Poké-ball.*

MAY:
Watch and learn! Beautifly! The spotlight is on you! Go!

*She does an elaborate twirl and releases BEAUTIFLY. It flaps its wings, creating a shimmering effect.*

PIKACHU:
Pika!

ASH:
Wow, that’s pretty good!

BROCK:
A nice opening!

MAX:
Good job, May!

*MAY is standing in place, wobbling slightly in a ballet pose - arms spread and one leg raised behind her.*

ASH:
Check it out – she’s really planted her pose.

MAY:
I… might have spent too much time on my spin…

*She turns around, revealing that the spin has made her dizzy. ASH, BROCK and MAX all groan and do twirls themselves. Cut to a short time later, when MAY’s had a chance to settle down.*

MAY:
Now, moving on.

*She holds up a Frisbee and throws it, along with two more.*

MAY:
Here we go!

*The Frisbees shoot towards BEAUTIFLY.*

MAY:
Beautifly, use Gust!

*BEAUTIFLY uses Gust, deflecting the Frisbees. However, this also blows up a load of sand, which sends first MAY, then ASH, BROCK and MAX flying, and then engulfs the entire beach. When it clears, only a bent beach umbrella and several people’s legs can be seen sticking out. MAX pops up from inside a sand bank, coughing.*

MAX:
Guess this isn’t the right place for that.

*MAY emerges next to him.*

MAY:
You’re probably right…

---

*Some time later, ASH, MAY, BROCK and MAX are standing beside a cliff on a private beach.*

BROCK:
This will be much better.

ASH:
So, what’s up next, May?

MAY:
Hmmm! Only the very best of the best!

*She leans forward and whispers to BEAUTIFLY.*

MAY:
OK, Beautifly, the pressure’s on now.

*BEAUTIFLY looks nervous.*

BEAUTIFLY:
Bea-u-tifly…

MAY:
Beautifly, Silver Wind, now!

*BEAUTIFLY performs Silver Wind, but conks out after a few seconds. MAY wails and sinks to the ground.*

MAY:
No, not again! We keep messing that one up!

MAX:
You might not want to use that move in the contest yet, May.

MAY:
But if we could use Silver Wind in the contest, it would just blow everyone away, I know it!

BROCK:
That’s true…

*ASH rushes forward, one fist clenched in determination.*

ASH:
OK! That just means you’ve got to keep practicing, right?

PIKACHU:
Pikachu!

MAY:
You’re right!

*She turns to BEAUTIFLY.*

MAY:
So, Beautifly, one more time from the top!

BEAUTIFLY:
Beautifly!

*Cut to MAY throwing three Frisbees.*

MAY:
Here goes!

*Shot of BEAUTIFLY with the Frisbees heading towards it.*

MAY:
Beautifly, Gust, again!

*BEAUTIFLY performs Gust, and the Frisbees soar away. MAY catches two of them very stylishly.*

MAX:
Yeah, that’s cool!

*The third Frisbee goes right over MAY’s head.*

MAY:
I know!

*Her face changes as she looks around and sees a boy standing on the cliff behind them, about to be hit in the head by the Frisbee that got away from her. ASH, MAY, BROCK and MAX gasp.*

MAY:
Look out!

*The boy reaches out and catches the Frisbee without opening his eyes. The gang gasps again. MAY runs over to the cliff.*

MAY:
I’m sorry!

*The boy starts to spin the Frisbee on one finger.*

DREW:
Please don’t tell me that you’re planning on entering the Pokémon contest with a cheesy act like that.

*He throws the Frisbee down to MAY; it lands in the sand by her feet. She looks shocked for a second, and then scowls at him. He walks over to her (having somehow got down a very steep cliff in under three seconds… yuh-huh, animators).*

DREW:
You’ve got no finesse – no moves.

MAY:
Hey!

*She takes a step towards him, but he raises a hand to block her path.*

MAY:
Who are you to tell me that?

DREW:
If you must know, I’m Drew. Pokémon co-ordinator.

*ASH, BROCK and MAX make their way over.*

ASH:
Really? That’s just like you, May!

DREW:
Please. No comparison. You see – you and your Pokémon, here? You’ve got no style.

*At this, MAY gets extremely angry.*

MAY:
Hey, you can make fun of me all you want, but don’t you dare make fun of my Pokémon!

*Before she can get any nearer to him, DREW holds a hand out in front of her face again.*

DREW:
Whoa, just calm down, little girl!

*MAY tries to run at him, but DREW holds her off with ease.*

MAX:
May, don’t listen to what he says!

ASH (to DREW):
Yeah, why don’t you show us all your great Pokémon?

DREW:
Why? What good would that do? I think you children ought to just be on your way.

MAX:
Why should we?

*DREW jerks a thumb at a fancy-looking resort on top of the cliff.*

DREW:
This is a private beach reserved for people like me staying at that resort.

*MAY glowers at him.*

ASH:
Come on. Let’s get out of here.

BROCK:
Yeah.

MAX:
Yeah.

*They turn to leave. MAY stops and looks over her shoulder to address DREW.*

MAY:
I suppose you’re entering the Pokémon contest, too?

*DREW s******s.*

DREW:
Brilliant guess, genius.

*There is a shot of MAY’s face, then DREW’s. She looks outraged, while he is still laughing to himself. Then there is a shot of them both, which suddenly pans out, revealing that MEOWTH is watching them through binoculars.*

MEOWTH:
Oooooh, look at that! The beach, I mean, not those twerps.

JAMES:
I could sure use some beach time.

*WOBUFFET pops out of its Poké-ball.*

WOBUFFET:
Wo-buffet!

*At that moment, JESSIE’s voice is heard from off-screen. JAMES, MEOWTH and WOBUFFET turn around, surprised.*

JESSIE:
Quit slacking off. Good, hold that pose.

*JAMES and MEOWTH walk over to where JESSIE and DUSTOX are. DUSTOX is hovering in mid-air, with shimmering spores floating down from its wings.*

JAMES:
What are you doing over here, Jess?

JESSIE:
What do you think I’m doing? We’re training for the contest!

JAMES:
The Pokémon contest?

MEOWTH:
You mean that stuff about entering wasn’t just a joke?

JESSIE:
Of course not! The combination of Dustox’s smooth moves and my beauty will win this contest, hands-down!

*Fire appears in JESSIE’s eyes and in the background. JAMES and MEOWTH look less than impressed.*

JESSIE:
We’ll be simply Dustox-ic! Dustox, Poison Sting!

*DUSTOX performs a Poison Sting; JESSIE claps.*

JESSIE:
Bravo! Now show the judges how stunning you are!

*DUSTOX increases the power of its attack, filling the screen. JESSIE, JAMES, MEOWTH and WOBUFFET get caught in the blast, and run away, with DUSTOX following.*

TEAM ROCKET:
Aaaaaahhhhh! That’s a bit too stunning!

WOBBUFFET:
Wobba-wobba-wobba!

---

*The camera focuses on BROCK, then pans out to show ASH and MAY facing each other from opposite ends of a battlefield.*

BROCK:
OK, the first mock-contest battle will get underway!

ASH:
All right, Taillow, I choose you!

*He releases TAILLOW.*

MAY:
I see. Taillow, huh?

BROCK:
And begin!

MAY:
OK, Beautifly! Tackle, now!

*BEAUTIFLY soars up and flies towards TAILLOW.*

MAX:
All right, May! That’s the way to go!

*BEAUTIFLY spins in the air as it dives at TAILLOW.*

ASH:
Taillow, dodge it!

*TAILLOW shoots up at the last minute, and BEAUTIFLY misses. MAY looks alarmed.*

ASH:
Taillow, Peck attack!

*TAILLOW turns around and pursues BEAUTIFLY.*

MAY:
Quick! Dodge it, Beautifly!

*BEAUTIFLY twirls out of the way, and TAILLOW shoots past it.*

MAX:
Wow, great dodge!

MAY:
String Shot, Beautifly, now!

*BEAUTIFLY wraps up TAILLOW in String Shot, trapping it.*

ASH:
Taillow, no!

MAX:
That String Shot attack worked out better than I thought!

ASH:
Taillow, you can get out! Right through the middle of it!

*TAILLOW begins to attack the string.*

MAY:
Oh no… no way! Now what am I going to do? I know – Beautifly, use Gust!

*BEAUTIFLY uses Gust, sending TAILLOW falling out of the air.*

MAX:
Hah!

MAY:
Wow! Talk about a lucky break!

MAX:
Way to go, Beautifly!

*TAILLOW is now lying on the ground, still wrapped in String Shot.*

ASH:
Taillow, wake up!

PIKACHU:
Pika pika!

*TAILLOW’s eyes open, and it tries to struggles upright.*

ASH:
Can you bite through the string?

*TAILLOW nods and begins to bite through.*

MAY:
I’ve got to hurry and think of something before Taillow gets free! OK – Beautifly, use Silver Wind!

*BEAUTIFLY uses Silver Wind, but again only manages it for a few seconds.*

MAY:
Uh-oh…

*TAILLOW finally breaks loose.*

ASH:
Great work, Taillow! Use Wing Attack!

*TAILLOW’s wings glow, and it dives at BEAUTIFLY.*

MAY:
You’re OK, Beautifly! Just dodge it! Hurry!

*TAILLOW hits BEAUTIFLY with its Wing Attack, sending it plummeting to the ground.*

MAY:
My Beautifly!

*MAY and MAX run towards BEAUTIFLY.*

BROCK:
This match is over!

*TAILLOW lands on ASH’s arm.*

ASH:
Hey. Taillow, you were great.

TAILLOW:
Tai-llow!

MAY (to BEAUTIFLY):
I’m sorry… are you OK?

*BEAUTIFLY flaps its wings a few times.*

MAY:
That’s a relief.

*A voice is heard from off-screen.*

MR. BIG:
Wow, excellent work. A most impressive attack.

*A man walks up to the group, clapping. MAY looks flattered.*

MAY:
Oh, I don’t know about that…

*The man puts a hand on ASH’s shoulder.*

MR. BIG:
You are entering the Pokémon contest, correct?

*MAY’s face falls. She, ASH, BROCK and MAX all sweat-drop.*

ASH:
No, sir – I’m not the one entering it.

MAY:
Right – I am. And this’ll be my first Pokémon contest ever!

MR. BIG:
Say, is that right? I can still remember how completely nervous I was for my first Pokémon contest.

MAY:
Wow, you were?

MR. BIG:
Oh, yes! I couldn’t begin to count the many contests I’ve participated in as a co-ordinator.

MAY:
Awesome! You’re a real pioneer!

MR. BIG:
The name’s Mr. Big.

MAY:
Nice to meet you, Big! My name is May.

ASH:
I’m Ash.

BROCK:
My name’s Brock.

*MAX runs up to MR. BIG.*

MAX:
Hi, I’m Max! Hey, have you ever won any contests before, Mr. Big? Have you? Huh?

*MR. BIG laughs.*

MR. BIG:
I’ve got three ribbons to prove it, son!

MAY:
That’s awesome!

*She clasps her hands together, starry-eyed. MR. BIG backs off, sweat-dropping, as MAY presses in on him.*

MAY:
Please, sir, you’ve got to teach me everything! You know – the works! How not to lose! How to win! What to think – to say – what to feel – to be –

*By the end of this, she has almost pushed MR. BIG out of shot. Eventually, he holds a hand out and stops her.*

MR. BIG:
Now, now, now – please settle down.

MAY (dreamily):
Yes, sir!

MR. BIG:
First off, the most important skill a Pokémon co-ordinator can have is staying calm.

MAY:
Staying calm - really?

MR. BIG:
Of course! When a co-ordinator is feeling nervous, the Pokémon can sense it, and that can end up as a failed attack plan.

MAY:
Come to think of it, I did rush that Silver Wind attack ‘cause I was scared… wow.

MR. BIG:
A co-ordinator should always maintain their poise, no matter what’s happening around them.

*The camera begins to pan over to reveal the Pokémon dozing in the shade of a low wall nearby. There is a bubble coming out of Torchic’s nose while it snores.*

BROCK:
So keeping a level head should be a co-ordinator’s first priority?

MR. BIG:
That’s correct!

*The bubble in TORCHIC’s nose bursts, waking it up. It looks around, and notices a large building a few yards away.
Cut to a short time later; TORCHIC has made its way to the building. It runs up to the open door, and pauses to sniff the air. It can obviously smell something that appeals to it, because its eyes light up and it runs inside.
The camera cuts back to MR. BIG. He is sitting on a rock, while MAY and MAX kneel at his feet.*

MR. BIG:
One more thing – there’s more to becoming a great co-ordinator than just doing lots of training. It’s important that you also watch what they eat, as well.

MAY:
Really? Diet?

MR. BIG:
That’s right.

*He holds up a Poké-block case.*

MR. BIG:
Take this for example.

*MAX jumps up and waves his arms.*

MAX:
A Poké-block case!

MR. BIG:
You know that Poké-block is good for Pokémon, right?

MAY:
Yeah?

MR. BIG:
Well, here’s a little gift for you.

*He holds out the case to an ecstatic MAY and MAX.*

MAY:
Wow, this is great!

*She takes the case, to MAX’s disappointment.*

MAY:
Look what I got!

MAX:
You’re so lucky!

MR. BIG:
You know, I’ve got something else pretty great back at my shop. Come on, I’ll show you.

MAY:
Sure!

*As the group sets off for MR. BIG’s shop, TEAM ROCKET spy on them from the bushes.*

JESSIE:
What could he have that’s so great?

JAMES:
I am a bit curious.

MEOWTH:
We could follow ‘em and maybe find out.

JESSIE & JAMES:
Yeah!

WOBUFFET:
Wobba, wobba!

---

ASH:
Wow, so your job is making fireworks, Mr. Big?

MR. BIG:
That’s right. Now I’m working on Pokémon fireworks.

ASH, MAY, BROCK & MAX:
What are they?

PIKACHU:
Pika?

*There is a short fantasy sequence of fireworks exploding, forming the shapes of a Poké-ball, a Torchic and a Pikachu with its tongue sticking out. MR. BIG provides a voice-over.*

MR. BIG:
After they soar up into the sky, they explode into beautiful pictures of Pokémon.

*The camera cuts to May clasping her hands.*

MAY:
No way! That sounds so cool!

MR. BIG:
Yes, but I’m just not getting the colours right. And to make matters worse, I have to show some samples to the festival chairmen by tonight.

*Just as they reach the door, TORCHIC backs out of it.*

MAY:
Torchic, are you OK?

*A very happy TORCHIC turns around to reveal that its face is covered in grimy grey juice. Everyone gasps.*

MAY:
What happened?

ASH:
Its mouth’s all black!

MR. BIG:
No! Can’t be!

*Cut to ad break. ‘Who’s That Pokémon’ = Dragonite.*

---

*The camera pans down, showing ASH, MAY, BROCK and MAX standing inside MR. BIG’s shop while he checks the contents of a box.*

ASH:
Is everything OK? What happened?

MR. BIG:
I left a bunch of Bluk berries in here.

MAY:
Bluk berries?

BROCK:
Oh, so that’s it!

ASH, MAY and MAX:
Huh?

*BROCK takes a booklet out of his pocket and opens it to a page on Bluk berries.*

BROCK:
It says here eating Bluk berries will stain your mouth black.

MAY:
Oh no! I guess Torchic ate them!

TORCHIC (cheerfully):
Tor-chic!

*MR. BIG stands up and turns to MAY.*

MR. BIG:
Don’t worry, May – they’re good for Pokémon. They help make their hair shiny. I was planning on giving some berries to all of you.

MAY:
Ah -!

MR. BIG
But now I’m really in a bind. Bluk berries help give my fireworks that amazing hue. I was planning on mixing them in for tonight’s samples. But sadly it appears they’ve all been eaten.

MAY:
I’m sorry!

*MR. BIG looks up, startled, as MAY pushes TORCHIC’s head into the ground.*

MAY:
Say you’re sorry, Torchic! Those were not yours to eat!

MR. BIG:
Wait! It’s really not Torchic’s fault – I’m the one who shouldn’t have left the storeroom door open!

ASH:
But now what? You’ve still got to show your fireworks tonight, right?

MR. BIG:
I know. I guess I’ll just have to do it without adding Bluk berries into them.

*MAY leaps to her feet.*

MAY:
Mr. Big!

*MR. BIG jumps.*

MAY:
I’ll go find you some Bluk berries!

MR. BIG:
You will?

MAY:
Yes! Now, when’s the latest I can get them to you?

MR. BIG:
Before dark. But – finding them’s not going to be easy, you know –

*MAY clenches a fist.*

MAY:
Don’t you worry – I’ll find them!

*The camera cuts away to outside the door, where TEAM ROCKET have been listening in on the conversation.*

MAY (from inside):
Come on, Torchic – let’s go get those berries!

TORCHIC:
Tor-chic!

JESSIE:
Well, well. So Bluk berries are good for your hair.

MEOWTH:
OK! Let’s bag a bunch of those berries and bring ‘em to the boss!

JAMES:
Why would we do that?

MEOWTH:
Say the boss is going into town, but he discovers that he’s having a bad hair day.

*Fantasy sequence of GIOVANNI brushing his hair with gritted teeth in front of a mirror, then looking over at a glass of dark liquid on the cabinet.*

MEOWTH:
That’s when he notices a glass of Bluk berry-juice.

*Fantasy-GIOVANNI drinks the juice.*

MEOWTH:
It’s down the hatch. And before you know it, his hair sets perfectly, and has a sheen like never before.

*GIOVANNI’s hair gleams blinding white for a second.*

MEOWTH:
Then you know what he says?

*GIOVANNI turns around, revealing that his teeth are completely black.*

GIOVANNI (in MEOWTH’s voice):
For getting me this gift, Meowth and friends are an example for all of Team Rocket!

MEOWTH:
Yay!

*The fantasy fades out. JAMES pumps a fist into the air.*

JAMES:
It’s our final rung on the ladder of success! …Wait, won’t that juice leave the boss’s mouth about as black as a moonless night in winter?

MEOWTH:
Aaah, quit being a worrywart.

JESSIE:
I plan on using those berries for my dear Dustox. They’ll work wonders on its razzle-dazzle.

*Wobuffet comes out of its Poké-ball; it, JESSIE, JAMES and MEOWTH strike typical Wobuffet-like poses.*

TEAM ROCKET:
Wobu-ffet!

---

*In the middle of a forest clearing, a worried MAY runs into shot.*

MAY:
Ash, how did it go?

*ASH and BROCK runs over to MAY and MAX.*

ASH:
No good.

BROCK:
Nothing.

MAX:
Hunting for Bluk berries isn’t so easy after all.

ASH:
Where’s Torchic, May? That’s weird.

*MAY starts to panic.*

MAY:
I don’t know!

*She and the others cup their hands around their mouths and peer into the trees. MAX is studying the ground with a microscope.*

MAY:
Hey, Torchic! Where are you?

ASH and BROCK:
Torchic, come on out!

TORCHIC (from somewhere off-screen):
Tor-chic!

*MAY and ASH look over towards the sound.*

MAY:
Hey, did you guys hear that?

---

*TORCHIC stares determinedly up at something. The camera pans up the side of a cliff face, and finally settles on a bunch of Bluk berries growing on a small shrub set close to the top. TORCHIC tries to run up the cliff, only to tumble back down. It tries again, and this time rolls down and hits its head on a rock at the bottom. It lies there, dazed, for a second; then it gets back up, shakes itself and tries again. This time it manages to hook its beak into the cliff and wriggle up far enough to make a jump for the branch the berries are growing on. It grabs the branch in its beak and hangs there, very pleased with itself. The camera pans back out as MAY, ASH, BROCK and MAX make their way onto the scene.*

ASH:
Hey, look!

BROCK:
All right! Torchic found some berries!

MAY:
Good job, Torchic!

*TORCHIC chirps happily. Suddenly, the branch breaks, and it and the berries fall.*

MAY:
Beautifly, use String Shot, now!

*BEAUTIFLY catches TORCHIC in its String Shot and reels it in. MAY catches it.*

MAY:
Are you OK, Torchic?

TORCHIC:
Tor-chic-chic-chic!

DREW:
Hmm!

*MAY looks over to see that DREW’s back again. He’s standing on a boulder at the bottom of the cliff, the branch with the Bluk berries slung over his shoulder.*

DREW:
That last attack had some real art to it.

MAY:
Thank you. Hey, those Bluk berries belong to Torchic! Give them back!

DREW:
All right.

*MAY looks surprised.*

DREW:
All you have to do is battle with me first.

MAY:
No way!

DREW:
Why not? Afraid you’re going to embarrass yourself again?

MAY:
Fine! I accept!

DREW:
Good! Smart move.

ASH:
May’s going to battle with Drew?

PIKACHU:
Pi-ka?

*JESSIE, JAMES and MEOWTH have, once again, been listening to all of this, this time from behind a nearby bush.*

JESSIE:
This couldn’t have worked out better if we’d planned it!

JAMES:
If we’d planned it, it wouldn’t have worked out at all.

MEOWTH:
While they battle their brains out, we bag the berries!

*WOBUFFET pops up behind them.*

WOBUFFET:
Wo-buffet!

---

*Shot of the Bluk berries, resting on a handkerchief on a boulder; then a wider shot of MAY and DREW facing each other, while BROCK referees.*

BROCK:
OK. This mock-contest battle will now be underway.

*ASH and MAX stand behind MAY and cheer for her.*

ASH:
Yeah, you can do it, May!

MAX:
Go! Show him!

MAY:
Thanks. I will.

BROCK:
Begin!

MAY:
Beautifly! The stage is yours!

*She winks, spins and releases BEAUTIFLY. The shimmering wind from earlier floats from its wings. Drew snickers and flips his hair.*

DREW:
Roselia! Go!

*He throws a Poké-ball, and ROSELIA appears. It spins around and soars straight up into the air.*

MAX:
A Roselia?

ASH:
What’s that?

*He holds out the POKÉDEX.*

POKÉDEX:
Roselia. The thorn Pokémon. Roselia’s aroma can bring serenity, but the thorns on its head contain a vicious poison.

MAX:
What a cool Pokémon!

*DREW flips his hair again.*

DREW:
Huh! Your praise doesn’t even come close to describing the artistic style of my Pokémon.

MAY:
I’m not losing to you!

DREW:
Then please – ladies first.

MAY:
Beautifly, Tackle, now!

*BEAUTIFLY Tackles forwards.*

DREW:
Roselia, use Petal Dance.

*ROSELIA spins in the air so quickly that it blurs, and shoots petals from its body.*

ASH:
Petal Dance?

*The Petal Dance hits BEAUTIFLY hard.*

MAY:
Beautifly!

MAX:
That Petal Dance was super-powerful!

*The attack ends; BEAUTIFLY hovers in the air, dazed.*

DREW:
Stun Spore, Roselia!

*ROSELIA spins and blasts BEAUTIFLY to the ground with Stun Spore.*

MAY:
Beautifly! Are you all right?

DREW:
Ho hum, that was easy. I expected a lot more from you than that.

MAY:
Beautifly, you’ve got to get up now! Beautifly, please!

*DREW flips his hair, bored.*

DREW:
Roselia, finish it off with Magical Leaf.

*ROSELIA begins to spin again, preparing to attack.*

MAY:
Please, Beautifly! Wake up!

*BEAUTIFLY’s eyes twitch, then open.*

ASH:
Remember what Mr. Big told you about keeping your cool, May!

MAX:
You’ve got to try and stay calm!

MAY:
They’re right…

*We hear MAY’s thoughts.*

MAY:
Calm down. Just think about this, and stay calm.

*ROSELIA finishes its wind-up and launches a Magical Leaf attack.*

MAY (out loud):
Silver Wind, Beautifly, let’s go!

*BEAUTIFLY takes to the air and blasts ROSELIA’s attack back towards it with a Silver Wind.*

DREW:
No way!

*ROSELIA is hurled into the air with the force of the Silver Wind attack.*

DREW:
No! Roselia!

MAY:
Awesome, Beautifly!

ASH & MAX:
Way to go, May!

PIKACHU:
Pika-chu!

*BEAUTIFLY turns towards May, looking pleased.*

BROCK:
That’s it! That’s the way to earn serious points!

*Suddenly, a fishing line comes out of nowhere, hooks the Bluk berries and drags them across the ground. BROCK notices and stares.*

BROCK:
Huh – wha -? What’s going on?

*The Meowth balloon appears, with JESSIE and JAMES standing on top. JAMES is holding the fishing rod.*

JESSIE:
Prepare for trouble as we reel ‘em in!

JAMES:
Make it double – we win!

*BROCK sweatdrops.*

BROCK:
You again?

JESSIE:
To protect the world from devastation!

JAMES:
To unite all peoples within our nation!

JESSIE:
To denounce the evils of truth and love!

JAMES:
To extend our reach to the stars above!

JESSIE:
Jessie!

JAMES:
James!

JESSIE:
Team Rocket blasts off at the speed of light!

JAMES:
Surrender now, or prepare to fight, fight, fight!

MEOWTH:
Me-owth, that’s right!

WOBUFFET:
Wobba-ffet!

ASH, BROCK and MAX:
Team Rocket!

MAY:
Give those berries back!

JESSIE:
Oh, sure, we’ll give these Bluk berries right back to you after everything we’ve been through to get them – hah, sorry, tough luck.

JAMES:
Yeah – looks like the Bluk’s on our side.

MEOWTH:
So now it’s goodbye, and good Bluk!

*The balloon sails away.*

WOBUFFET:
Wob-uffet!

ASH:
Wait!

*He, BROCK and MAX charge after the balloon. MAY hangs back for only a second to address DREW.*

MAY:
This battle is over. We know someone who needs those Bluk berries.

*With that, she runs after the others. DREW watches her go, looking disappointed.*

---

TEAM ROCKET:
Now it’s off to the boss with our Bluk berries! Promotion, here we come!

WOBUFFET:
Wo-buffet!

*ASH, MAY, BROCK and MAX come to a halt with the balloon in their sights.*

ASH:
Pikachu, Thunder Bolt ‘em!

*PIKACHU’s Thunder Bolt hits a metal dish suspended below the basket, and dissipates.*

ASH:
What?

PIKACHU:
Pika?

*MEOWTH laughs at them.*

MEOWTH:
Zap all you want, but your bolts ain’t going nowhere with our Zap-Back Mark II!

ASH:
I’m not giving up! Pikachu, Thunder Bolt!

*Unsurprisingly, the exact same thing happens.*

TEAM ROCKET:
No-thing!

DREW (from off-screen):
Solar Beam! Go!

*A blast of energy fires and destroys the dish. TEAM ROCKET scream in horror.*

TEAM ROCKET:
Not our Zap-Back Mark II!

MAY:
Whose Solar Beam -?

*She looks behind her to see DREW and ROSELIA.*

MAY:
It was you?

DREW:
Not sure what’s going on, but happy to assist!

ASH:
All right, Pikachu, Thunder Bolt them again!

*PIKACHU fires off another Thunder Bolt.*

DREW:
Roselia, Solar Beam!

*ROSELIA spins and launches a Solar Beam. The combined attacks hit the balloon, zapping TEAM ROCKET and blowing the whole thing sky high.*

TEAM ROCKET:
We’re blasting off again!

WOBUFFET:
Wo-buffet!

*The Bluk berries, which by some miracle/plot device managed to survive the explosion, begin to fall to earth.*

ASH, MAY, BROCK and MAX:
Oh no!

ASH:
The Bluk berries!

*TORCHIC runs forward, jumps off the edge of the cliff and catches the berries in its beak. It looks exceptionally proud, until it notices where the ground is in relation to itself, and begins to plummet downwards.*

MAY:
Beautifly, use String Shot!

*BEAUTIFLY catches TORCHIC once again, and deposits it and the berries in MAY’s arms.*

MAY:
My little Torchic! Oh, I’m so proud of you!

TORCHIC:
Tor-chic!

DREW:
You were great, too, Roselia.

*He recalls ROSELIA. MAY walks forward, smiling.*

MAY:
Thanks for helping us, Drew.

DREW:
No need to thank me.

*He does the hair-flip one more time.*

DREW:
You know what – we’ll battle in a real contest. That is, assuming you can make your way through the preliminary round first.

*He turns and walks off. MAY watches him go, still smiling, but with determination.*

MAY:
Count on it, mister!

---

*The scene is now night time. ASH, MAY, BROCK, MAX, PIKACHU, TORCHIC, TREECKO, MUDKIP, MR. BIG and a BOARD MEMBER stand on the beach*

VOICE (over MR. BIG’s walkie-talkie):
OK, we’re ready to go!

MR. BIG:
All right, let her rip!

*The first firework is sent into the sky, taking on the shape of a Pikachu.*

ASH:
Pikachu, look!

PIKACHU:
Pika-chu!

MAY:
Beautiful!

BOARD MEMBER:
A fine presentation, young man.

MR. BIG:
Thank you very much!

*The fireworks keep exploding. MAY, BROCK and MAX narrate the form each one becomes.*

MAX:
Cool, a Pichu!

ASH:
Awesome!

MAY (to Torchic):
It’s a Torchic, like you!

TORCHIC:
Tor-chic!

BROCK:
Hey, a Mudkip!

MAX:
Check out the Treecko!

*DREW and ROSELIA watch the display from the railings. During the NARRATOR’s closing speech, the camera pans over the group standing on the beach, finally settling on MAY.*

NARRATOR:
As our heroes gaze up at a sky decorated with beautiful Pokémon, May is more determined than ever to do her best in the upcoming Pokémon contest.

*Final credits, and end.*

DREW!!!!!! I've really grown to like the guy since, so it's a treat now to watch his first episode. At least he's been interesting right from the start.

This episode had a lot of good highlights, like Beautifly literally blowing everyone away on the beach, Dustox spraying Team Rocket with stingers (I liked Wobbuffet's acupuncture look LOL), Torchic and the bluk berries, Mr. Big, and roselia getting blasted with silver wind. Overall, terrific episode, and it gave us such a great recurring character too.

Drew's first apperance!! Awesome-ness!! xDD Torchic cuteness in here, and Roselia's just so cool!! The usual TR random funny moments xD the motto NEVER gets old <33 What's with the fishing the berry? how can you hook it? That gets me ... it's kinda un-logical ... and why cant Brock just run and get it? Instead of just looking at it :\

Ah Drew May's main rival in Pokemon contests, interestingly enough they set him up like Gary back in Indigo, rude, critical, and very confident, but at least they made him abit more nicer toward the end of the episode. Ash really has a knack for making his Pokemon look naturally beautiful while in battle I think he probably would do very well in contests if he wasn't so focused on being a Pokemon champion.

A good debut to Drew. I don't like him that much though. He acts like a jerk a few times.

The only thing that was good about Drew was his Roselia.

He's a jerk and he probably always will be.

As May begins her training for the Slateport Contest, she and her friends encounter a boy who doesn't think much of her at first. Drew's Roselia proved to be a formidable Pokémon in its own right, but no doubt May's Beautifly will want to catch up. I had to laugh when Drew ordered Roselia to zap Team Rocket's "Zap-Back Mark Two", if that was the name of their electricity-absorbing antenna, and as a result, Ash, May, and Brock were able to secure those Bluk Berries for Mr. Big's Pokémon fireworks. A rivalry between Drew and May I noted toward the end, perhaps as a starting point.
Babylon 5, Codename: Kids Next Door, 24, and now, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. I am many things at once, and many people might have different opinions about little, old me. If freedom is my main idea, then harmony, individuality, and modernization are the three attributes I now sense and track. Those three attributes and that idea combined to make the United States of America a great global superpower and Pearlshipping and Wishfulshipping great Pokémon couples, and now, they've combined to make those four shows truly great television programs to me. I will enjoy enthusiastically supporting the Equestrian ponies' adventures for peace, for humankind, for the future.

Drew and Roselia made this episode really enjoyable for me. I liked how May started a rivalry with Drew almost right away; it was almost like Ash and Gary's rivalry which was refreshing to see. Roselia itself was designed for Contests as was May's Beautifly so I see both Pokemon as rivals almost as well. Super awesome plot in this episode, 8/10.
