Anything from 2007 or newer but no earlier than maybe Summer 2012.

But no Steins;Gate I've tried it like 5 times and can't get past ep 2.

That happened with Bakemonogatari and I ended up loving it, but it's an exception.

Go ask what exactly you're looking for in the tread and we'll give you some suggestions.

Going to marathon Puchim@s while waiting for the new Railgun to download. Speaking of Idolm@ster, someone uploaded the English translated iPhone game on nyaa. Since I gave the show a 10/10, I feel it's my duty to watch and play everything related to the franchise. As soon as I figure out how to play pirated games on my Xbox, I'll have to download the main games too

If you consider early 2000s to be old, watch Kino's Journey. If not just watch it anyway because it's a fantastic show that I highly recommend.
If you consider late 90s to be old watch Cowboy Bebop if you haven't already. And if you watch Cowboy Bebop, watch it dubbed.
If you want to go older, watch Otaku no Video

EDIT: Oh, so that's what you're looking for. In that case, you should watch Mawaru Penguindrum. It's like a cross between Bakemonogatari and Evangelion. Only the convoluted plot structure is much better handled than Eva and actually has an ending. Plus it's a bit more serious than Bakemongatari

Saw PenguinDrum, around this time last year, already and L-O-V-E-D it, but thanks for your input

Saw Tsuritama last December, alongside Apollon on the Slope, thoroughly enjoyed them both, Sakamichi a bit more though.
Jormungand I started and got to ep 18ish last year, but it's been so long I might as well start from scratch.
I've been meaning to get to Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, I'm a member of the church of Ai-Pon(Nonaka Ai).
Finally Minami-ke also is big on my list. Think I'm going to finish LuckyStar first though.
Also meant to get around to Guren Lagann(sp?)

The whole point is I don't know what I'm looking for.

Already am watching Shingeki no Kyoujin. Every ep has me bursting laughing, especially potato-girl's debut.

Well, it sure is becoming a chore to follow all these ongoing series.

Honestly, YamiBou is probably a bad series, but I still kind of enjoy it. Not for the same reasons as when I watched it ca. 2007-8, but mostly because it does not know the meaning of staying on the rails. I probably would like it a lot more if it didn't lean on fanservice so much, but, I guess, what can you do -- that's not gonna appeal to everyone.

Also, Lilith is pretty annoying, and I love Hazuki's inability to take **** from her.

Also, these fansubs are... well, they remind me how much better fansubs have gotten over the years.

Gurren Lagann's okay, I'm sure you'll like it but it's a giant mash-up of clichés that works if you have yor brain (mostly) turned off.

Too bad. If you turned your brain on while watching maybe you would have enjoyed the more subtle things about it. Protip: Just because a series has fan service and/or action doesn't mean it can't be clever.

I'm a huge fan of the show but I still have no god damn clue what you're talking about. Still, the fact that you have to turn off your brain isn't really a flaw. It's a kid's show after all. They expect you to disregard logic. Besides, Gainax aren't very good at doing serious stuff. They're at their best when they're doing dumb stylistic action shows like this

My brain was on and though I enjoyed it while going in, I didn't think it was a good experience when I look back at it! It wasn't for the sex appeal either, it was for the melody of clichés that it is and now that I look back at it, I don't find it very creative and although it's a passionate love letter, I can find all what gave but better in other places! On top of that, this has happened to many other series I used to enjoy (Hellsing Ultimate, Soul Eater, and Sgt. Frog in particular). So much money wasted...

In the end, if you call yourself a fan of Japanese animation, by all means check Gurren Lagann out. Looking for something fresh? Pass up on it.

    Thank you.

After putting it off for a while, I finally finished rewatching Gundam 00 tonight. The show fills me with so much regret though.

    Your face is dumb.

Seriously though I see Gurren Lagann as more than a big dumb action show. Same with FLCL. Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt however...

Despite common sense, I'm stubborn and it will take more than that to drop a series.

That was so funny. Even more so when I imagined "Okay, instead of giving you a proper beating I'm just going to do this over the course of two hours."
