What did you think of one of the most controversial scenes in anime history?Fiiiiiine, I went and watched it when I wanted to wait until the morning or so.
I liked it, lol. Wasn't that creepy or disturbing, I thought it was interesting, a more... fitting end to the series (or so it was supposed to be). I'm not entirely sure why it is the movie exists, whether it was indeed in response to the Evangelion fans who didn't like the first ending, or they weren't allowed to end the television series like that. But whatever the reason, this indeed has a better ending and fits the atmosphere and theme of the series. It doesn't exactly give it a "come full circle" ending, but it ended as how it was foreshadowed in the series. Except that it looked like SEELE or something didn't quite go as planned, and it left an Adam and Eve feel to the ending. The end of the world wasn't as terrifying as everyone made it out to be, it looked really pretty and Lilith took her sweet time falling.
So all-in-all, while I'm sure it'll eventually sink in more (since I don't plan on rewatching it for a long time) and I still don't really get why fans were really up-in-arms over it, I really did enjoy the movie. Hideaki Anno may have gone through problems, but it paid off in the end, even if the response wasn't what he was looking for.
But still, in reality, I don't really have a positive nor negative thought toward the series. That's going to need some time as everything slowly sinks in, and it's probably for the best.
