I'd say do it by air date. If you watch it in chronological order the climax is in the middle. The story is structured to be watched the other way.

    you'd be surprised.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a diehard fan of Madoka. I didn't love the series but I don't hate it either. I just kinda liked it.

Madoka is kind of in the same boat as Evangelion for me. There's a ton of symbolism that flew over my head among other things, they each have fanbases that say they're revolutionary shows, but what I enjoy more than the series themselves are the fans jokes that I see going around the internet. They have the best sense of humor.
tbh i'm guilty of rating certain shows based on how obnoxious their fanbase is because the people hyping a series are pretty much the reason why i was disappointed in the first place. madoka and nge in particularly got a lower score from me because of their pretentious fanbase.

I'm probably just a fanboy though.

i won't say that i'm not biased either since i already think that the magical girl genre in general is ridiculous but i will never understand why people flipped out when they made one that isn't all dokidoki. i suppose that the "four girl club activities" aren't that much different compared to magical girls but i highly doubt i would be impressed if they made K-ON! but with azusa dying or something along the line. :/

So basically, if Madoka wasn't highly praised, you would have liked it better? o.o

Most aren't even like this. Most others have people that are the "chosen" ones. This isn't like that which explains the sheer number of magical girls in the series.

i sort of phrased that badly. if madoka wasn't highly praised i wouldn't have had any expectations to begin with and would probably just rate it as average. since i watched it with rather high expectations because of the hype, i ended up extremely disappointed which made me enjoy it less.

The third last Japanese cartoon I watched before Madoka was Tekkaman Blade, and oh do the two have such similar concepts. Maybe what I'm looking for just needs more SCIENCE FICTION!

Pretty much this and everyone hinting at who the antagonist was (not cool, people).

I think you guys misunderstand. I'm not talking about fan works or doujinshi or rule 34. I'm saying the anime itself isn't sexy enough to fap to.

As much as I want to agree with this, I just know that, somewhere out there, there is some guy, possibly a girl even, who just wacks in Madoka and watches Mami x Charlotte while they fap.

I liked PMMM. The drama worked really well for me, mostly because I thought the atmosphere created by the visuals and the music was so effective. The plot was based on a pretty uncomplicated idea, but it felt really grand without devaluing the importance of the characters to the story. On the whole I thought it was very good, but it's not one of my favourite shows ever or anything.

Hold on... if this percentage was correct at the time of print, that means the actual percentage of false information is less than 100% if this signature is included. Which means that... no! I've become a slave to the system!!

Now this is something we can agree upon.

The character designs might be off-putting at first, but you'd be surprised at how quickly you get used to them. There are a lot of muted colors, particularly brown and black, on them that suit the dingy, grimy future setting well (the only real exceptions are a scientist with blonde hair who's a minor character and a major character with white hair and green eyes, which are symbolic in context.) Typical fanservice is very muted, limited largely to shirtless scenes with the male lead and one scene in one episode where the female lead is seen wearing only panties from behind in a casual setting.

Of course, being that it's Urobochi's work, and a dystopian crime drama, there are some really horrifyingly brutal things depicted right from the start, running from crimes such as a heavily implied rape by the criminal in the first episode, to an arc about a serial killers that turns their victims into works of art, all the way up to the fact that the weapons used by the protagonists cause criminals' bodies to explode, often on-screen. If you want to avoid such things, stay away.

Sorry for rambling on. But I do think that if he wants something with more hard sci-fi, Psycho-Pass is a good choice.

I know I did. At first I was like: "That's the main heroine? She looks almost like a boy. Those eyes are dumb."
Now every episode I'm all: "AAAAAHHHH SHE IS SO ADORABLE!"

Even though I'm not watching it any more, I prefer the opening for Sasami-san@Ganbaranai to the one for Oreshura.

    Chihayafuru 2 - 5/25
    Fate/Zero 2nd Season - 25/25
From the New World - 18/25
    Hunter x Hunter (2011) - 66/?
    Kotoura-San - 5/12
    Little Busters! - 18/26
    Psycho-Pass - 16/22
    Space Brothers - 44/?
    The iDOLM@STER - 25/25

The iDOLM@STER was really easy to watch - it was a very uplifting show. It felt like the focus narrowed to a handful of characters in the second half, and for a show with such a strong message about unity, I think this was a mistake (or maybe I'm just biased because Yayoi was my favourite). But it was a real feel-good show, and there were times when I had a lump in my throat following a triumph over adversity. The songs really worked, too - that aspect certainly put any prejudice I may previously have had against idol shows (thanks to Kanon Nakagawa) to bed!
