It's my favourite anime series of all time, so I'd say it's pretty damn good. It's hard to give a summary without spoiling too much because of it's breakneck pacing, but after one episode I'm sure you'll want to see more. There's giant mechas, explosions, badassery, babes, guns, punchy animation, and all around inspiring fighting spirit. The English dub is one of the best out there too so I'd give it a shot if you're into that.

Good man. Also watch Clannad. That will get you hooked on the slice-of-life anime genre. Then we can recommend you tons of great shows. Amagami, Spice and Wolf, Nichijou, Hidamari Sketch, Ef: Tales of Memories/Melodies, Kanon 06, Oh! My Goddess!, Kimi ga Nozomu Eien, and Ore no Imōto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai.
