and my rival of course always is Suzu

I'll name my character after me. And my rival something degrading, i feel it gives me an upper hand.

When i play through with my brother's game to mess around it might be something ridiculous...like Howie.

If I ever get SoulSilver, I would name my character "Cerina," my would-be Pokemon character name. As for the rival, I would name him after someone I dislike. :P

I'm going to name my character Casey, cause that's my name.

I accidently named my rival Bill last time when I was confused about what they wanted me to do. I think I want to name him Dante...come to think about it, that would be cool. Or something else from the Divine Comedy, maybe Virgil. Back when I got my Pearl I named my Piplup Styx. XD

IDK but but I named my main character Taylor. I liked it, and it'll prolly work for me this time around. My rival tho hmmm maybe Raymond (my real life pokemon rival)

I'll just go with Gold for the main character and Silver for the rival. Real original I know but at least its not a name that i'll end up regretting.

Guess it depends on the list of choices you get to choose from. If I don't care for any of those I will just do the whole Gold/Silver thing as well depending on the version.

when i get heart gold imma name myself Vivi as usual.
OR i might go paricularly old-school and go with my very old name, Pkmn Rage, if i decide i wouldn't be embarrassed going online with that name XD

and for my rival, i go oldschool. Imma name him Gailien. He's a gay alien :P my brothers and i always named him that in gold/silver version :P
