Ichigo's will get better? ...we've had 500 chapters and yet it still has 1 attack. Then again 2.5 years isn't a lot of time, plus the bulk of that time was spent powerless. Hopefully get a new attack to spam like a maniac.

I didn't mean it that way. Achieving and mastering bankai is one thing. That would fit with Hitsugaya perfectly. Further mastering your bankai (or developing it, whatever) was what I'm talking about. I mean... there have to be a growth limit or something. You can't have your bankai keep growing indefinitely. Take a look at Byakuya, for example. If he were to become Head Captain, how would Senbonzakura improve more? Like, more blades?

Oh what a surprise Juha Bach was not the actual villain that was being fought it was a decoy.

When I saw the first page I just thought "...okay then".
Though their powers are very unusual. What species are they even?

Loyd and Royd. I wonder how we wrote their names in Katakana.

It was quite nicely done, I think, the decoy. Though it would have been nice if there was more foreshadowing, besides "this is too easy".

Aaaaaaaaand Aizen. I do believe I predicted that he would return, at some point.

"Only I had enough power to absorb your Bankai", so what about Ichigo? Assuming the comment on the age of the bankai is now null.

Aaaaand slashed. Okay.

While in general, I'm not too big a fan of "you weren't actually fighting the villain at all!" it at least didn't feel like a complete asspull (we were all predicting something would happen). Though I have to admit, purely from a writer's perspective, I like how Kubo managed to jump to Yamamoto going Bankai, and a nice big epic fight that probably bumped the rating up (even just a bit), and now he can go back to "normal" story-telling/fighting.

Ah, well, the way I would see it, your bankai can further grow as far as your imagination can stretch (so being able to create new moves, realising what your true abilities are [think of Orihime; it's not "I can heal" it's "I can bend space/time to reject events" - she can do a lot more with that]).
For someone like Byakuya, I figure better control (to reduce his "15 cm gap" or whatever), or being faster, etc. Though it feels like there's a point where "new attack/ability" sometimes doesn't have much to do with your actual ability (thinking of Yama's "South" ability).
And of course, the more you've mastered your bankai, the harder it becomes to further improve it; your learning curve becomes less and less steep as you go on.

What would your bankai be like, after several hundred years of training?
After several hundred years of training and developing the skills on my bankai with Keiri, I learned about a different, darker form of my bankai.

Bankai Name; Jingoku no Keiri (地獄の刑吏 ; Executioner from Hell)

Bankai Details; Jingoku no Keiri creates another dimension around the user and any opponents the user wants. The dimension appears as a flaming metallic sphere from the outside. Opponents are restrained with the Kidō spell Gōmon and are unable to escape. Inside the sphere, the user takes on an appearance similar to Keiri. The flow of time inside the sphere seems to be faster than outside. The user of Jingoku no Keiri can perform several different forms of execution on their opponent(s). Each time an opponent is executed, they can be brought back to life to be executed again with another method.

• Shimekorosu (絞め殺す ; Strangle to Death): The blade of the zanpakuto transforms into a chains to strangle or squeeze opponents.
• Sashikorosu (刺し殺す ; Stab to Death): The opponent is impaled with a flurry of blades to cause massive bleeding.
• Yakikorosu (焼き殺す ; Burn to Death): Use of Hadō #54 (Haien) to incinerate the opponent.
• Bukkorosu (打っ殺す ; Beat/Pummel to Death): The opponent is stoned with a flurry of softball sized metal spheres.
• Oshikorosu (圧し殺す ; Crush to Death): The opponent is crushed between two large blocks of metal; about the size of a van.
• Kirihanasu (切り離す ; Decapitate): A giant guillotine will appear above the opponent and then drop on their neck.

A drawback of the bankai is that it uses a lot of energy, regardless the number of opponents. After using Jingoku no Keiri, the user will be unable to move for three days.

I'm not sure if I liked the fact that he mentioned the Royal Guards, or not.
Now it's not a surprise to the reader when they enter - because we're reminded of them.
But it also means that Juha Bach has something prepared for them. It might be like Aizen's plan to split up the 13 captains by taking 2 with him, and letting 4 chase after Ichigo; leaving fewer captains to fight in the actual war. So if/when he and Aizen go to the Soul King, there'll be fewer guards to fight.

Huh, I wonder what that is. Probably not the Royal Guard - Juha Bach seems to have an idea for when they're coming. It's definitely something he didn't account for; my gut is saying either Isshin and co., or perhaps whoever "saved" Ichigo.

I wouldn't chalk it up to old age. I think he's making the point that when Soul Society turned from bloodthirsty warriors to peaceful, and concerned about justice and pride, they had become weak.

I don't think he is. Probably just caught off-guard and winded now.

In this case, Juha Bach is Aizen, the Royal Guard are the captains, and Yamamoto is Ichigo. So like how Aizen split up the captains, by letting some of them chase after and save Ichigo, Juha Back might split up the Royal Guard, by letting some of them come and save the Seireitei.

It sounds more like "alright now reinforcements will be sent so let's just wait for them to come".

The whole RG concept though is really huge. I mean, we still have a handful of Captains whose bankai still need to be explained (Unohana, Aizen (probably), Shunsui, Ukitake, Shinji, Rose, Love, Kensei (if at all) and Isshin). Then you have the whole RG member.

No wonder Kubo is killing off old characters left and right.

The only differences I see are Gomon, time flow and resurrection. Faster time flow would make it a suitable hiding spot Resurrection is pretty... worthless? I mean, yeah, you could have fun torturing your enemies I guess but practically, it sort of does nothing.

I guess it's better than suddenly having cancerous cells all over your body :P

Is there a gratuitous violence theme this week in the manga, or is it just me? Bleach had Yamamoto getting bifurcated, dis-armed (or un-handed), and blasted to smitherenes; then Shunsui getting shot, tons of random Shinigami getting eviscerated, and ridiculous amounts of death. Naruto had utter and complete slaughter on a scale we haven't seen to this point, plus what happened to Rin, and massive amounts of gore via Obito-slaughterhouse.

Anyway, a somwhat interesting chapter. Nothing really happened, but the background about Yamamoto is nice, and I liked what Juuha Bach said about him being too weak because he felt the need to protect everything he held dear. It's actually a plot point that I have for my fanfic (which IS coming along, don't worry. It'll just take a while.)

I imagine that the explosion is going to be Ichigo+Friends+Urahara+Mystery Backup (probably other Arrancar, hopefully Grimmjow and others).

Bach wanting to go after Squad 0 is probably because he wants to claim supremacy. Without Squad 0, he probably sees the Royal Guard Spirit King as defenseless.

Also, a question I've been wondering. For the sake of example, let's say every other Captain come out of the war alive. Who would be the new Head Captain? Either the three senior Captains or maybe a Captain from 0 Division?

Then again, Yama himself founded the Academy and Gotei 13, right?

I started thinking about this after Yamamoto's fight with Aizen, especially since a normal Soul Reaper would have died from using Hadō #96. Ittō Kasō.
I've actually incorporated my thoughts into my fanfic (that I stopped writing), the Neo-Quincy Arc.
I personally think that Shunsui Kyōraku would become the new Head-Captain, at least as an interim until a new captain for Squad 1 would be picked.
Although, it's also as likely that Unohana would be picked as an interim Head-Captain.
But seeing the mood Kubo is in now, I have completely no idea who might become Head-Captain after this war is over. >.>
