As a child, I had a huge obsession with lizards. So when I started my game on my sapphire, I picked treecko because I was so fascinated with the fact that treecko was a lizard. Man, I miss those days.

i would prolly pick swampert since i destroy nubs with it in my ss team below in my signature. but naturally as a kid i would pick torchic. i picked swampert anyway though

hmm i would say torchic in ruby/sapphire mainly because it has a good match up against some gym leaders,dominates the elite 4 and champion and blaziken is a really strong fire type pokemon and is beast! in emerald i would have to say treeko mainly because of the change in champion and can take care of the last two gym leaders nicely.

I choose torchic for the first time I played ruby since I always go for the fire starters first.

Treecko for sure! When it fully evolved I taught it earthquake to make May think again about having a Torchic.

Uhhh Mudkip! He evolves into Swampert, Hes water and ground so hard luck for Electric type moves and he Swampert learns earthquake..Ice beam to dominate the Treeko evolutions and Earthquake to dominate the Torchic evolutions..

When I rented Emerald, I choose Mudkip because it was cute, I had no idea of the fad, I was only 6 or something.

But I got Sapphire and choose Treeko because I thought it was cool xD;

In order of when I played them. -

- Ruby - Mudkip, when evolved it can learn Ice Beam and when coupled with great attacks, it can defeat any other pokemon very easily. My 2nd fav. starter of all seasons.

-Sapphire - Treecko, The only other pokemon that isn't weak against the 1st couple gyms.

-Emerald - Torchic, I had to evolve into Combusken just to get passed the 1st gym... And is the most difficult for defeating the Rival.

I've gone through RSE with all three. All have their reasons to why they should and shouldn't be chosen. For the Metagame hardcore, Mudkip is the perfect choice, as Swampert is a hellova wall. Treecko is for someone who'd require either a quick Pokemon, or a well-designed Grass-type, as in RSE, the choices are scarce. One might chose the Torchic line because of the scarcity of Fire-types, or for design.

Honestly, I commonly go with Treecko or Mudkip, but currently I'm using Torchic.
