Personally it doesn't bother me but I notice that some people can get frustrated if they're referred to as a he or she constantly when they've corrected other people in the past over the matter.

Mostly, though, I'd think the victims are female, as most users type "he" in hopes that the other person accepts it as a gender-neutral term.

Looking at your profile I can see your male. Obviously you haven't been called a she before, given everyone assumes that people on the forums are male. So you probably don't understand how irritating it is.

If it indeed does bother you, simply put it in your signature.

    Thumbs down

It still bugs me that we can't upload our own avatars. Is it that big of an issue?

Yes, 20000 users all trying to upload their 60-second loop-gifs takes up server space that we don't need to waste.

Can I suggest getting mods that can actually take a joke, or at least teaching them how to understand humor?

    Humour is subjective.

And until we mods get members that can actually follow the rules are are at least capable of understanding them, you'll have to put up with humourless mods. Giving infractions are hardly the most entertaining of things.

I find the policy of having fairly humourless staff to be no problem, really. As said, humour is subjective and therefore one mod could infract a member for something, whereas another mod would have a good laugh and let it pass. Which obviously isn't fair.

@RaZoR LeAf: well, keep in mind that this is a forum for kiddies after all.

    Default Avatar section

The avatar selection page is in need of some serious streamlining. I understand why this website doesn't allow custom avatars. It makes sense, and honestly I agree with that. But the avatar selection system currently in place is drastically inefficient. Hopefully some of my suggestions here can help make it more user friendly.

First, is the display. Twelve avatars per page seems reasonable ... until you see that some of the categories in the drop-down menu have over six hundred avatars in it. Combine this with the occasional server lag that hits this message board on a daily basis, and you've got yourself some genuine user-hostility.

We need the option of choosing how many avatars per page that we can display. Keep the 12 Avatars (4x3) as the standard option, but add in others. 24 Avatars per page (4x6). 36 per page (4x9). 48 per page (4x12).

Second, we could use a search function. For instance, if I want to look for Zangoose avatars, a search function would make it so simple to do so.

Third, and this could be a possibile alternative to the search function. For the larger categories (like those for the Pokemon sprites and back sprites) have sub-categories. For instance, the Diamond/Pearl Pokemon Sprite section has 639 avatars in it.

Why not make subcategories based on each "Generation" of Pokemon within the Diamond/Pearl sprites? For instance, you could have Diamond/Pearl, with 1-151 as the first sub-category, 152-251 as the second, 252-386 as the third, and 387-493 as the fourth.

Fourth, please organize the avatars within each category in a manner that is easily recognized. As they are right now, it seems as though they were randomly added. Be it numerical or alphabetical it doesn't matter. When searching for a specific avatar (such as my Zangoose avatar), there were 50+ pages that it could have been located on, and I had no way of knowing which one.

Actually I think the mods do have somewhat of a sense of humor. I mean there's several sections of the board that seem to be a joke to them.

I just noticed that Kangaskhan's HG/SS sprite is missing from the HG/SS Sprite section.

All (or most, anyway) of the mods here have a sense of humor. They just don't all have the same sense of humor.

I wager that's what gives rise to the seemingly unfair situations natie mentioned. Alas, we are just as human as everyone else here.

For the episode discussion threads, I think we need to wait until the episodes air from now on. If you look at the last few episodes that have aired, including today, the first page or two of each one looks like Twitter. A bunch of +1 posting with simple messages like "Infernape up now".

    Example: http://www.serebiiforums.com/showthread.php?t=462050
Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are remakes, confirmed.

Actually, it's a forum for pokemon fans. The average member here is a teenager, not a 'kiddy'.

Your annoyance with the avatar system is one that's been raised by people many a time. Serebii has tried to organise the avatars many a time, but the forum keeps mixing them back up, and as far as he knows, there is no way to instal an avatar search feature (unless there is a hack, which he still wont do).

Some of the links in the FAQ don't work any more, and the picture in the top right corner of some of the older themes.

Well there is an easy fix to the above situation.

It is possible to disable .gif avatars. And it is also possible to cap the file size as well as the dimensions of the avatar.

The link in the picture hasn't worked for years. You'd have to take it up with the one person who deals with the themes (clue, his name is the same as the site) and see why he hasn't fixed it since we told him last (year or two ago).

As for the links in the FAQ, do you mean the Newbie FAQ Topic in the newbie forum, or the actual Forum FAQ? Send me a PM with the details and I'll work on fixing them.

What would be your filesize cap? Remember there are over 110000 registered members...

A 40 kB limit per picture would mean paying for 4GB of server space. I think custom avatars for mods is acceptable as they have proved themselves to be of use to Joe but everyone else, sorry, you'll just have to make do with the thousands of avatars he has provided for you >.>

Server space wouldn't need to be bought. Users could upload images to imageshack, photobucket, ******* etc. Some users would even have their own webspace which they could use. Essentially this is what imageshack, photobucket is made for.
(not so much photobucket as they have traffic restrictions)

Also, as another suggestion. Since I am new I would assume this has been suggested before but what about a tab below the birthdays, with current online members? I would love to see more statistics of the site's traffic.
(If this has already been discussed what was the reasoning for it to be not allowed)

There used to be, I think Serebii must have turned it off to streamline the forum loading speed.

My suggestion: how about a ban on PMs and new threads until you have 5 posts? This would stop bots from posting those annoying threads and porn messages (entertaining as they are).

    Excellent suggestion.

For the bit in bold, to which part in my post is that in regard to? I assume the statistics.

you can't have people upload to their own site because of the way the server works. even if you upload your avatar to an external source (like *******, etc) in order to use it on the forums it still gets uploaded to the forum database. as said in the past, it's not necessary to the forum for everyone to have custom avatars and it would take up way too much space.

yes, the who's online was removed because it saves time loading the main index. if you want to see it, i believe you still can by going to quick links at the top and clicking who's online (you may have to join a usergroup [the ones like gamers, anime fans, etc, not social groups those are different] because of some weirdness with permissions).

and as for not allowing links and stuff until 5 posts, joe wouldn't do that because he wouldn't want to restrict legitimate new members. plus, things like that are a little unfair to people who only post in the forums where postcount is off (such as battling and trading, some of the biggest reasons people come here). plus, nowadays a lot of the bots make normal posts and have links in their signatures, so it still wouldn't help.

this is me on sppf most of the time. so don't send me small questions. send them to kreis :)

Little Miss Stalinist/Secret Al-Qaeda agents (i.e. Ellie) would be a ***** even if she was a conserative republican. What makes her the way she is happens to be the fact that the webmaster of this site let's her behave like this. (Of course, I would never make a liberal a staff member at any forum I'd be in charge of, regardless.)
