    Default A Marathon Rivalry! (628)

Get Fired Up, Snorlax! Prince of Pokéthlon!

On their way to the next city, Ash & Co. discover that the Pokéthlon contests from Johto are in Sinnoh. Learning how it works, Ash decides to enter the Pokéthlon and try out his Pokémon's skills at this special contest. However, things do not seem as easy as he thought it'd be as the Pokéthlon not only tests the Pokémon, but the trainer...

First half deals with meeting Snorlax and start of the Pokethlon.
Second half finishes up the competitions. Yuta wins it.

    - Snorlax Attacks.
    - It's pretty small too.
    - Yuta loves his laptop.
    - Straight from Johto: It's Pokethlon!
    - Snorlax seems to have a problem.
    - It's too fat.
    - Rocket masseuses.
    - Ash could probably lose Pikachu in his sleeping bag.
    - Hitmonlee-a-pult: Ready to launch.
    - Ash loses Pikachu. Again.
    - Staraptor stopped by the Poke of Death. Best part of the episode.
    - Snorlax's fat saves the day.
    - Virtual Reality a-go.
    - Hurdle relay. Look at that Machoke go.
    - ...and it falls. Christ Machoke.
    - Snorlax wins. By a belly.

    Oak Lecture: Abomasnow. Oakcicle.

A fairly typical episode, like usual. Treat it like an typical filler. Lessons learned and all that. Yuta had that CotD feeling to him and I doubt he'll turn out to be anyone significant in the future.

EDIT: Holy ****. First time seeing the live-action Dochi Nyo~. I hope they never change it back to animation. Some of those girls were cute. Reminds me of Tunak Tunak.

The Character of the Day didn't command his Pokemon (Hitmonlee and Snorlax) to use any attacks so there's no information to add to the Moves Thread this week.

The actual Pokethlon doesn't start until we were almost at the halfway point. There was a really neat Trampoline Event that we didn't get to see much of thanks to Team Rocket Shenanigans. Other then that there was the Disc and Hurdle Event we saw in the preview.

Staraptor got KO'd by Team Rocket's Super Poke of Death. Poor Baby.

Ash lost the Pokethlon. It was rather anti-climatic.

So Yuta won the Pokethlon, too bad that Ash didn't manage to win this.

Poor Staraptor, but at least it appeared. and Monferno's last episode "without evolution".

...I'm pretty sure most of them are like twelve except for the lead dancer >_>

    Anywho, highlights of the episode:
    -Starraptor finger-poked to death
    -Machoke fail
    -THERE WAS A SPOINK HERE!~

And that's it. This episode wasn't all that exciting. Yuuta was ugly, pretty boring plot and the episode was animated by Kinoshita. Recipe for a succesful failure. Now I can't wait to hear everyone else complain about how the Pokethlon is a missed opportunity, how it should have been an arc, or something along those lines...

On the plus side, Yuta gets a garden-salad-for-a-hat as a prize.

    Good for him.

That's why I said some. You can have the young ones if you're so interested.

I think the writers didn't make Ash win this because of the prize (How would Ash look with that on).

    Pic of Yuta's prize,

Do you mean the "Daler Mehndi" song 'Tunak Tunak Tun'. How do you know about that old song. Do you know punjabi or hindi.

That's what people say about everything that doesn't go their way, though.

    Just wondering...

It was revealed that Satoshi and Takeshi already knows about Pokethlon because they already traveled Johto.

Didn't anyone else find this weird?

Yeah, strange. Ash and Brock never saw this competition, it's new. maybe they meant to something else, because it's the first time that Ash takes part in the Pokethlon.

    Well, yeah.
Not writers, but It was Writer call Junki Takegami's (Who wrote today's episode) fault.

He isn't very popular IMO judging by way the fans talk about him in 2ch.

Why did Ash and Brock know about Pokethlon? Just another plothole to follow the GS Ball into the Abyss of Unanswered Queries!

So basically, this was a terribad filler? Shame.

Ash/Brock said they did the Pokethlon in Johto?

Goodness, the writers for this episode must be on drugs.

Meh, the pokethlon was shown, we'll give them that much.

Hopefully PUSA (or whatever the company is called these days) catches on to this and decides to give them something else to say. Again, hopefully. Even if Ash just says that he's at least heard it mentioned. No one will be the wiser.

But to say that he participated... no, just no.

I bet the writers have trouble remembering what actually happened in all those Johto fillers.

Still with Pokethlon being a new quest for HGSS, how the hell they can say Ash did it before is beyond me.

It was a lot less exciting than I thought. The previews made it look kinda fun.

A COTD won the competition, it reminds me of the time Ash competed against a guy and his Skiploom in Johto and lost. Though I like that leaf crown Yuta won.

The Pokethlon is a lot more exciting in the games that's for sure. A little too late to showcase a HG/SS event too. 2/10

They said he did it or he knew about it?

Its normal that he knew about it theres so many things we know about and never competed, etc.

So if they said he knew about it its acceptable.

LAMO What a weird episode. Ash kept loosing his Pikachu, he needs a leash on that thing. And yes it is odd how they said Ash and Brock saw this in Johto, uh no you didn't. The writers were probaly hopping we'd forget about the series and be all oh, yah that's right >>
Over all, yah a really weird episode.

How would he know about it? Isn't it a new facility? We didn't see it back in Johto. There were competitions between Filler, but not the Pokethlon.

Anyway, I would've been satisfied if Ash had won the Pokethlon. Well, maybe next time right?

Best part of the episode for me - Spoink hitting lights on a trampoline! Monferno did pretty well with that catapult competition. What the heck? No Draco Meteor practice. hehe

They had to cut Draco Meteor out of the episode for more time with Spoink.

I'm going with either Yogi or Julius.

Also, for those getting ancy over the decision to give Brock and Ash prior knowledge over the Pokethlon, I say who cares. It's no biggie, lifes moves on, nothing is neither gained nor lost.

Oh! You're right! He kinda does resemble Haga. Weird if they had the same VA in the US dub since Jimmy Zoppi voiced Weevil and he's still around today.

I really think they could've given Yuta more personality though. He looks like the generic Super Nerd.
