Shadow Folk Pirates, Captain
Straight raven-black hair falls just below her shoulders, and her eyes are emerald green. She wears a silver diadem with an emerald centerpiece around her head, and black silk robes with handmade silver clasps. She will often change into dark-colored civilian wear whenever she needs to go somewhere inconspicuously. She has a very regal, striking profile and walks with a ramrod straight posture. She carries a pair of ebony-bladed khopesh
, sheathed on her belt beneath her robes. Under her robes she wears a black leather combat garb and a large belt with her two khopesh
sheathed behind her back. She also has a raven tattooed on her right shoulder blade.
Anima is conniving as hell, always scheming and plotting. At the same time, she is extremely protective of those she considers "hers" and will not sacrifice them needlessly. However, she regards those who are not with her as enemies and has little regard for them or their lives. She's incredibly charasmatic in a "if you're not with me, then get the hell out of my way" kind of way. She's persuasive, collected, and slightly smug. She displays a highly sarcastic and cynical streak most of the time, and is fairly easy to annoy. In battle she is usually dismissive of weaker opponents like rank-and-file Marines, seems to toy with mid-level enemies, and only really gets serious against stronger foes. She is also renowned for her complete ruthlessness and brutality towards those who have harmed her original crew (those who are closest to her), no matter how weak the one who harmed them may be. She has a dream to create some kind of empire, but only speaks of it in the most general of terms, so only a few people know the specifics. Of all the Shadow Folk pirates, she is perhaps the least assassin-like, which is ironic considering that she is their leader.
Anima was once the Crown Princess of Silvatria Kingdom in the North Blue. As she grew, it became clear that her intellect and abilities far surpassed those of her parents, and she began to plot their downfall. Eventually, she decided she would rather not rule the kingdom, as she (correctly) viewed most of its members as mindless sheep. After seeing the crime and hatred caused by simple ignorance, she decided that not only did she not want to rule, but to eliminate the country and its stupidity completely. However, she still needed to find a way to escape, so she began forming her own group of personal bodyguards and soldiers at the age of 13. Two years later, she encountered Atrera Venari -who would later become her First Mate- when he tried to steal from her. She knocked him back with her Seiryoku
abilities, then ordered her guards to subdue him. Three guards would die and all of them would be injured before they managed to take him down. Impressed with Venari's skills, the Princess offered to absolve him of his crimes in exchange for an oath of fealty to her, which he gladly accepted. After another two years, when her parents tried to arrange a marriage for her, she instead had Venari assassinate her parents and set up evidence pointing to the suitor's family, causing all-out war to break out in the kingdom. During the chaos, both Venari and Anima escaped, taking a group of bodyguards loyal to the princess and commandeering a ship to escape. On the way to a neighboring country's port they were attacked by pirates, but they fended them off with Princess Anima and Venari leading the way. The princess, finding that she enjoyed the thrill of fighting as well as the riches she could plunder, made the decision to become a pirate, and her bodyguards became her initial crew, with Venari as her first mate. The Stealth-Stealth Fruit was one of their prizes in the initial raid, and since Princess Anima was already satisfied with her power, she gave it to Venari. Initially the Shadow Folk Pirates were a rather motley crew, but with a few months, 200 members, and sufficient experience they quickly entered the Grand Line.
In the early stages of the Grand Line, they ran across newly minted Rear Admiral (at the time) Jyuusei Mamori during the assault on Marine Base G-. He challenged Anima but was denied and beaten badly by Atrera Venari; this battle was given surprisingly little creedence because Vice Admiral Momonga stated that "Rear Admiral Jyuusei lost because of a bad match-up and because he let his zealotry blind him to the task at hand". The theft of confidential documents relating to the military situation in the New World was also attributed to the Shadow Folk Pirates' crew. At Sabaody Archepeligo, the crew slipped just under the 100,000,000 Beri mark (with 98,000,000 Beri for Anima and 77,000,000 for Venari), although the ringleaders gained their current bounties (save for Anima) shortly thereafter by assassinating the crew of an entire Marine fleet in a single night. Some time during the aftermath of the Battle at Marineford, an officer of Kaidou's forces (bearing a bounty of 212,000,000 Beri) approached her and offered her a position among Kaidou's fleet, which she respectfully declined, stating that she hoped to build an empire of her own. Said officer did not take the refusal well and attempted to attack her, but was unable to make headway against her powers and was ultimately beaten badly. She sent him back to Kaidou with a message: "I bow to no emperor who attempts to control those below him with nothing but shows of force and empty threats." Since then, Kaidou has not attempted to make contact with her again, perhaps aknowledging her or instead focusing his efforts on his fellow Yonkou. Because of this incident, her bounty was increased to 284,000,000 Beri.
Anima's strongest abilities are all combination-oriented, as in she uses them simultaniously or in combination with other abilities. The true extent of her powers is unknown; she has not come up against an opponent who could truly test her abilities since arriving in the Grand Line.
Although not nearly as fast as Venari (whose speed is positively ridiculous), Anima is still capable of keeping up with most high-level opponents, especially in combination with her Kenbunshoku Haki abilities.
Anima is a skilled sneaksman (or sneakswoman), easily capable of slipping into heavily defended areas undetected.
Anima is highly flexible as well as extrodinarily agile. This allows her a fair amount of ease with dodging attacks.
Though she is not really the assassin type, Anima is knowledgable with assassination techniques and their tools, as well as fairly skilled at pulling them off.
Anima is very good at persuading or manipulating people to do what she wants.
Anima is unusually adept at using Haki powers, having been born with a natural talent for them.
Kenbunshoku Haki (Color of Observation; Mantra):
Her sensory capabilities are less than Venari's; she only has the range of a small island. However, her perceptive abilities are just as good as his, meaning a 1.5 second window ahead of time to percieve all incoming attacks.
Busoshoku Haki (Color of Armaments):
This is Anima's most potent ability. She is capable of not only hardening her skin and attacking Logia-types, but also forcing the power into the air around her, increasing its density to inhuman levels. She also has access to a special form of Busoshoku Haki unique to her family, called Seiryoku
-Seiryoku (Imperial Force):
This is a special power unique to only a few members of Princess Anima's royal bloodline; it forms the basis for most of her stronger abilities. It allows her to physically project the force of her will into a defensive wall or an attack move like a shockwave. Anima usually combines this with her air-density changing Busoshoku Haki
abilities to create an incredibly powerful defense that is capable of deflecting powerful Logia attacks and returning cannonballs to sender. It also functions as an offensive move; more powerful attacks are capable of denting reinforced steel. In combination with her khopesh
blades, Anima is more than capable of sinking a ship by cutting it into pieces by focusing the waves into cutting forces using them.
Haoshoku Haki (Color of Command):
Anima is one of the "one in a million" people to possess Haoshoku Haki abilities. However, seeing as she has had no formal training in using them, she has no idea how to harness it and only releases it unconciously when she becomes furious.
Khopesh / Blade Skill:
Anima is a master of the khopesh
, and is competent with other types of blades. She really only draws them for two reasons, assassination and skilled opponents. The only other reason for her to draw the blades is if she's trying to sink a ship.
Zanshuuha (Slicing Wave):
Creates a blade of solidified air using her Seiryoku and Busoshoku Haki powers that is capable of cleaving through wood, stone, and weaker/thinner metals.
Buryoku Warikusabi (Splitting Force Wedge):
Uses her blades to focus the power of her Seiryoku shockwaves into a wedge and then drives it into the target. Powerful enough to slice a small- to medium-sized ship in half. This is extremely tiring for her and using it more than three times in a day is a bad idea.
Hasakikanadzuchi (Hammer Blade):
A slash followed by a powerful shockwave, making this attack difficult to block.
The Jolly Roger of the Shadow Folk Pirates is a crooked skull with a neck constricted by a garrote, held in two bony hands. Anima and Venari co-designed the flag since Anima couldn't come up with a good way to implement her design.
