Default Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's Altaria! (UU warstory).

IS IT A BIRD? IS IT A PLANE? NO, IT'S ALTARIA! (UU WARSTORY).

    INTRODUCTION

    8 January, 2010.

This is my third warstory. The first two were on Smogon.

Altaria is a bird, but I couldn't think up a better title. Sure, Altaria is a bird Pokémon, but not a non-Pokémon real-existence bird. Because of that, it is not that bad for a warstory title.

I built a very sucessfull UU Rain team. I was laddering, close to the leaderboard, and I came up against the same opponent four times in a row. I lost three times thanks to hax. This is the fourth and last battle with him. Will I get revenge? Will I get beaten again? Read the warstory to find out. Because I battled him before this match, I show his team before the warstory, I knew his team before starting and he knew mine. Earthworm watched. He watched, he watched my battles with the team on Friday 8 January 2010.

    I have four Rain dancers.

    The battle lasts 38 turns.

Highest position on the leaderboard with this team (I will update this if the highest position is higher than before): #5.

Please don't flame or troll, but tell me what's wrong in a nice way. I want to learn from my mistakes, but be nice to me, please.

    STEVEYFALCONS TEAM AT A GLANCE

    MY TEAM AT A GLANCE

    TEAM IN-DEPTH

I am posting my team too, so you can know my possibilities each turn and it is nicer to read.

    Uxie @ Damp Rock
    Ability: Levitate
    EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/4 Spd
    Impish nature (+Def, -SAtk)
    - Rain Dance
    - Stealth Rock
    - U-turn
    - Toxic
Uxie has Damp Rock for Rain Dance. Max HP and Def for Physical bulk. One of my two supporters. Altaria is Specially bulky. Toxic is useful against many Pokémon. Gorebyss takes care of Toxicroak. U-Turn and Stealth Rock speak for themselves. Uxie is a nice, bulky, reliable lead also useful fr replenishing Rain or spreading Poison later in the game.

    Altaria @ Damp Rock
    Ability: Natural Cure
    EVs: 252 HP/160 SDef/96 Spe
    Careful nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
    - Heal Bell
    - Rain Dance
    - Roost
    - Dragon Claw
Altaria has Damp Rock for Rain Dance. Max HP for bulk. 96 Spe outspeeds a large group of Pokémon, including max Speed Aggron and everything trying to outspeed it by one point. Being too slow is annoying, even for a suppporter. The rest goes into SDef. One of my two supporters. Uxie is Physically bulky. Altaria has Roost to recover, Dragon Claw for offense, Rain Dance because this is a Rain team. Heal Bell make Altaria a cleric, very important. Own status is no problem, Natural Cure.

    Gorebyss @ Life Orb
    Ability: Swift Swim
    EVs: 4 HP/252 SAtk/252 Spe
    Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
    - Hidden Power Grass
    - Ice Beam
    - Psychic
    - Surf
Gorebyss is pure about attacking. Surf is STAB. Ice Beam offers coverage. Hidden Power Grass deals with other Waters, Quagsire is more common than Mantine. Psychic deals with Toxicroak. Max SAtk and LO for power. Max Speed, I want to outspeed (and tie with other max Speed users) other Gorebyss and 252 Spe EVs are more useful than 220. If those 36 HP EVs were needed to survive a staple attack from a common Pokémon, Smogon would've mentioned it in the analysis.

    Ludicolo @ Life Orb
    Ability: Swift Swim
    EVs: 4 HP/252 SAtk/252 Spe
    Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
    - Hydro Pump
    - Grass Knot
    - Ice Beam
    - Rain Dance
Ludicolo is my second sweeper. Three attacks are enough, and an extra Rain Dancer is always useful. Grass Knot over Energy Ball, for opposing Milotic. Hydro Pump and Grass Knot are STAB. Ice Beam covers Grasses, Venusaur hates it. Altaria too. Max Atk and Spe speak for themselves. Swift Swim goes before healing with Rain Dish, Swift Swim makes Ludicolo so awesome for this team.

    Kabutops @ Life Orb
    Ability: Swift Swim
    EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spe
    Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
    - Aqua Jet
    - Stone Edge
    - Swords Dance
    - Waterfall
I run Max Speed, the mentioned Speed from Smogon is to outspeed Honchkrow. I think on a team like this, Speed goes before a little unneeded bulk. Swords Dance is nice when I find time to use it. However, I sweep without it too. Aqua Jet offers Rain+LO+STAB boosted priority coming off a very high Atk stat. STAB are Stone Edge and Waterfall, also nice coverage.

    Milotic @ Life Orb
    Ability: Marvel Scale
    EVs: 168 HP/252 SAtk/88 Spe
    Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
    - Recover
    - Hydro Pump
    - Ice Beam
    - Rain Dance
88 Spe outspeeds a large group of Pokémon, including max Speed Aggron and everything trying to outspeed it by one point. Max SAtk and Modest+LO for max power. Hydro Pump+STAB+Rain+LO kills many Pokémon. Ice Beam offers great coverage. Rain Dance goes before more coverage. Recover is very important, combining nicely with Life Orb and Milotics bulk. Milotic on a Rain team seems stupid, but its bulky, and Water STAB and great SAtk makes it a nice addition to a Rain team. When it comes to benefiting from Rain, Milotic is a good Pokémon.

This team was started with the idea Rain+Milotic. I wanted Milotic so I started with it. Then I needed suppurters, a Physically defensive and a Specially defensive supporter, also adding bulk. Three slots left: Kabutops and Ludicolo, the best Physical and Special sweepers in UU. I chose Lanturn. However, Toxicroak gave trouble and I lacked offensive power. Gorebyss was added over Lanturn, who did nothing important for most of the matches. Gorebyss worked better and gave me some extra power. A very good change.

    WARSTORY

After every time a Pokémon dies, I will state how much Pokémon each player has left. AquaMilotic-SteveyFalcon.

I wanted Rain Dance as quick as possible. Before, he switched in Porygon-Z and Subbed, which starts killing many Pokémon on my team. I decided Rain Dance goes before Stealth Rock, to have a shot at winning.

Rules: Ladder Match, Sleep Clause, Freeze Clause, OHKO Clause, Evasion Clause, Species Clause, Strict Damage Clause
SteveyFalcon sent out Registeel (lvl 100 Registeel).
AquaMilotic sent out Uxie (lvl 100 Uxie).
    Earthworm has entered the room.
    AquaMilotic: Good luck.
    SteveyFalcon: ololol
SteveyFalcon switched in Porygonz (lvl 100 Porygonz).
    Uxie used Rain Dance.
    Rain began to fall!
    The rain continues to fall.

Porygon-Z. Annoying in the first three battles. I use Stealth Rock, I really want to have it up as soon as possible.

    Porygonz used Substitute.
Porygonz lost 25% of its health.
    Porygonz made a substitute!
    Uxie used Stealth Rock.
Pointed stones float in the air around the foe's team!
    The rain continues to fall.

There comes the Sub. SR and Rain are up. The basic setup is done.

    Porygonz used Nasty Plot.
Porygonz's special attack was sharply raised.
    Uxie used U-turn.
The substitute took damage for Porygonz!
AquaMilotic switched in Kabutops (lvl 100 Kabutops).
    The rain continues to fall.

Uxie can't break the Sub. Kabutops can. Nasty Plot is annoying. Kabutops will die, but did a good job.

    SteveyFalcon: gl hf
    Kabutops used Aqua Jet.
The substitute took damage for Porygonz!
    Porygonz's substitute faded!
    Porygonz used Hidden Power.
Kabutops lost 100% of its health.
    AquaMilotic's Kabutops fainted.
Porygonz lost 10% of its health.
    The rain continues to fall.
    5-6

Everything goes as expected. It's time to kill it. Gorebyss is ready to sweep.

AquaMilotic switched in Gorebyss (lvl 100 Gorebyss).
    Gorebyss used Surf.
Porygonz lost 65% of its health.
    SteveyFalcon's Porygonz fainted.
Gorebyss lost 10% of its health.
    The rain continues to fall.
    5-5

Porygon-Z dies. Gorebyss is fast now, and more powerful.

SteveyFalcon switched in Hitmontop (lvl 100 Hitmontop).
    Pointed stones dug into Hitmontop.
Hitmontop lost 6% of its health.
    Hitmontop used Fake Out.
Gorebyss lost 23% of its health.
    Gorebyss flinched!
    The rain continues to fall.
Hitmontop's leftovers restored its health a little!
Hitmontop restored 6% of its health.

Hitmontop flinches Gorebyss. Nothing to do about it. Psychic is Super Effective. I'll do that.

    Hitmontop used Mach Punch.
Gorebyss lost 39% of its health.
    Gorebyss used Psychic.
    It's super effective!
Hitmontop lost 85% of its health.
Gorebyss lost 10% of its health.
    The rain continues to fall.
Hitmontop's leftovers restored its health a little!
Hitmontop restored 6% of its health.

Goebyss will die, but did its job. Hitmontop is damaged and easy to kill now.

    Hitmontop used Mach Punch.
Gorebyss lost 18% of its health.
    AquaMilotic's Gorebyss fainted.
    The rain stopped.
Hitmontop's leftovers restored its health a little!
Hitmontop restored 6% of its health.
    4-5

Again the opponent took the lead. I need new Rain, so Uxie will have to provide that.

AquaMilotic switched in Uxie (lvl 100 Uxie).
SteveyFalcon switched in Kingler (lvl 100 Kingler).
    Pointed stones dug into Kingler.
Kingler lost 12% of its health.
    Uxie used Rain Dance.
    Rain began to fall!
    The rain continues to fall.
Kingler's leftovers restored its health a little!
Kingler restored 6% of its health.

And it does. Kingler swept my team many times before (Agility+SD). It is time to kill it now. Ludicolo has Grass Knot to do the job.

AquaMilotic switched in Ludicolo (lvl 100 Ludicolo).
    Kingler used Agility.
    Kingler's speed was sharply raised.
    The rain continues to fall.
Kingler's leftovers restored its health a little!
Kingler restored 6% of its health.

Agility. Luckily no Atk boost, Ludicolo outspeeds Kingler even after Agilityin the rain, I hope it stays in so it dies.

    Ludicolo used Grass Knot.
    It's super effective!
Kingler lost 100% of its health.
    SteveyFalcon's Kingler fainted.
Ludicolo lost 10% of its health.
    The rain continues to fall.
    4-4

Nice. Cresselia is bulky, but can't take Rain boosted STAB Water moves easily.Hydro Pump 2HKOs.

SteveyFalcon switched in Cresselia (lvl 100 Cresselia).
    Pointed stones dug into Cresselia.
Cresselia lost 12% of its health.
    Ludicolo used Hydro Pump.
    Ludicolo's attack missed!
    Cresselia used Calm Mind.
    Cresselia's special attack was raised.
    Cresselia's special defence was raised.
    The rain continues to fall.
Cresselia's leftovers restored its health a little!
Cresselia restored 6% of its health.

Cresselia is very lucky. Hydro Pump will do less damage now. However, still worth a try.

    Ludicolo used Hydro Pump.
Cresselia lost 36% of its health.
Ludicolo lost 10% of its health.
    Cresselia used Calm Mind.
    Cresselia's special attack was raised.
    Cresselia's special defence was raised.
    The rain continues to fall.
Cresselia's leftovers restored its health a little!
Cresselia restored 6% of its health.

Well, this once again. Two times for Cresselia to die. However, too many CMs make Cresselia deadly and more bulky.

    Ludicolo used Hydro Pump.
Cresselia lost 28% of its health.
Ludicolo lost 10% of its health.
    Cresselia used Moonlight.
Cresselia restored 25% of its health.
    The rain continues to fall.
Cresselia's leftovers restored its health a little!
Cresselia restored 6% of its health.

No CM this time. I can't keep HPing on. Uxie will use Toxic to deal with Cresselia, who can't cure that.

AquaMilotic switched in Uxie (lvl 100 Uxie).
    Cresselia used Moonlight.
Cresselia restored 25% of its health.
    The rain continues to fall.
Cresselia's leftovers restored its health a little!
Cresselia restored 6% of its health.

Moonlight. No big deal. Toxic time.

    Uxie used Toxic.
    Cresselia was badly poisoned!
    Cresselia used Toxic.

Cresselia's leftovers restored its health a little!
Cresselia restored 2% of its health.
    Cresselia is hurt by poison!
Cresselia lost 6% of its health.

Both Pokémon are poisoned. Altaria has Heal Bell to cure Uxie. Now it's time to replenish Rain.

SteveyFalcon switched in Mismagius (lvl 100 Mismagius).
    Pointed stones dug into Mismagius.
Mismagius lost 12% of its health.

Mismagius restored 6% of its health.
    Uxie is hurt by poison!
Uxie lost 12% of its health.

Mismagius. Annoying. U-Turning out will be a good idea. Milotic has the Special bulk to take some attacks.

    Mismagius used Substitute.
Mismagius lost 25% of its health.
    Mismagius made a substitute!
    Uxie used U-turn.
    It's not very effective...
    A critical hit!
The substitute took damage for Mismagius!
AquaMilotic switched in Milotic (lvl 100 Milotic).
    The rain continues to fall.
Mismagius's leftovers restored its health a little!
Mismagius restored 6% of its health.

That Sub has to break. Hydro Pump either breaks the Sub or heavily damages the switchin in case Mismagius switches.

    FelGrand has entered the room.
    Mismagius used Shadow Ball.
Milotic lost 29% of its health.
    Milotic's special defence was lowered.
    Milotic used Hydro Pump.
The substitute took damage for Mismagius!
    Mismagius's substitute faded!
    The rain continues to fall.
Mismagius's leftovers restored its health a little!
Mismagius restored 6% of its health.

Milotic did its job. Now it's time to kill it.

SteveyFalcon switched in Registeel (lvl 100 Registeel).
    Pointed stones dug into Registeel.
Registeel lost 6% of its health.
    Milotic used Hydro Pump.
    Milotic's attack missed!
    The rain continues to fall.
Registeel's leftovers restored its health a little!
Registeel restored 6% of its health.

Registeel is lucky. But that's the risk of Hydro Pump. I try again.

    Milotic used Hydro Pump.
Registeel lost 79% of its health.
Milotic lost 10% of its health.
    Registeel used Thunder Wave.
Milotic is paralysed! It may be unable to move!
    The rain continues to fall.
Registeel's leftovers restored its health a little!
Registeel restored 6% of its health.

Milotic being paralyzed? Good for its Def. It's time for another HPump.

    Registeel used Explosion.
Milotic lost 61% of its health.
    AquaMilotic's Milotic fainted.
    SteveyFalcon's Registeel fainted.
    The rain continues to fall.
    3-3

No HPump. A dead Milotic. Ludicolo will do some sweeping in the rain. Hitmontop comes in.

SteveyFalcon switched in Hitmontop (lvl 100 Hitmontop).
AquaMilotic switched in Ludicolo (lvl 100 Ludicolo).
    Pointed stones dug into Hitmontop.
Hitmontop lost 6% of its health.
    Hitmontop used Fake Out.

    Ludicolo flinched!
    The rain continues to fall.
Hitmontop's leftovers restored its health a little!
Hitmontop restored 6% of its health.

    Hitmontop used Mach Punch.
Ludicolo lost 41% of its health.
    AquaMilotic's Ludicolo fainted.
    The rain stopped.
Hitmontop's leftovers restored its health a little!
Hitmontop restored 6% of its health.
    2-3

Hitmontop kills Ludicolo. Also, no rain anymore. Only my two supporters left. I will probably lose. Dragon Claw damaging Hitmontop, trying to kill it can make the loss less bad.

AquaMilotic switched in Altaria (lvl 100 Altaria).
    Altaria used Dragon Claw.
Hitmontop lost 25% of its health.
    Hitmontop used Stone Edge.
    It's super effective!
Altaria lost 64% of its health.
Hitmontop's leftovers restored its health a little!
Hitmontop restored 6% of its health.

Altaria survives and is faster. I use Dragon Claw again. I expected a faster, more offensive Hitmontop.

SteveyFalcon switched in Cresselia (lvl 100 Cresselia).
    Pointed stones dug into Cresselia.
Cresselia lost 12% of its health.

Cresselia comes in. With Roost, I might stall the poisoned Lunar Pokémon out.

    Altaria used Roost.
Altaria restored 50% of its health.
    Cresselia used Toxic.
    Altaria was badly poisoned!
    Altaria is hurt by poison!

Altaria is healthy again. Toxic? Heal Bell.

    Altaria used Heal Bell.
    Cresselia used Psychic.
Altaria lost 18% of its health.
Cresselia's leftovers restored its health a little!
Cresselia restored 6% of its health.
    Cresselia is hurt by poison!
Cresselia lost 18% of its health.

Time for Dragon Claw. Cresselia can't keep taking this.

    Altaria used Dragon Claw.
Cresselia lost 11% of its health.
    Cresselia used Moonlight.
Cresselia restored 50% of its health.

Cresselia restored 6% of its health.

Moonlight. Dragon Claw is good, hitting Cresselia who takes Poison damage

SteveyFalcon switched in Mismagius (lvl 100 Mismagius).
    Pointed stones dug into Mismagius.
Mismagius lost 12% of its health.
    Altaria used Dragon Claw.
Mismagius lost 44% of its health.
Mismagius's leftovers restored its health a little!
Mismagius restored 6% of its health.

Dragon Claw will kill Mismagius. Altaria will survive.

    Mismagius used Shadow Ball.
Altaria lost 26% of its health.
    Altaria used Dragon Claw.
Mismagius lost 31% of its health.
    SteveyFalcon's Mismagius fainted.
    2-2

And it happens. Hitmontop will Fake Out. Altaria can survive.

SteveyFalcon switched in Hitmontop (lvl 100 Hitmontop).
    Pointed stones dug into Hitmontop.
Hitmontop lost 6% of its health.
    Hitmontop used Fake Out.
Altaria lost 18% of its health.
    Altaria flinched!
Hitmontop's leftovers restored its health a little!
Hitmontop restored 6% of its health.

And it does. Hitmontop can't do much now. A Dragon Claw will kill it.

    Hitmontop used Mach Punch.
    It's not very effective...
Altaria lost 14% of its health.
    Altaria used Dragon Claw.
Hitmontop lost 15% of its health.
    SteveyFalcon's Hitmontop fainted.
    2-1

I take the lead. Finally. Cresselia can't take the Poison and I win unless the opponent is very lucky.

SteveyFalcon switched in Cresselia (lvl 100 Cresselia).
    Pointed stones dug into Cresselia.
Cresselia lost 12% of its health.
    Altaria used Roost.
Altaria restored 50% of its health.
    Cresselia used Psychic.
    A critical hit!

Cresselia restored 6% of its health.
    Cresselia is hurt by poison!
Cresselia lost 6% of its health.

Altaria took a lot of damage, so Roost is needed. Psychic was a crit. Roost again.

    Altaria used Roost.
Altaria restored 50% of its health.
    Cresselia used Psychic.
    A critical hit!
Altaria lost 39% of its health.

Cresselia's leftovers restored its health a little!
Cresselia restored 6% of its health.
    Cresselia is hurt by poison!
Cresselia lost 18% of its health.

This is more fair. No three crits in a row. Altaria will win.

    SteveyFalcon: gg
    Altaria used Roost.
Altaria restored 45% of its health.
    Cresselia used Psychic.
Altaria lost 20% of its health.

Altaria restored 20% of its health.
    Cresselia used Psychic.
Altaria lost 19% of its health.
    Altaria's special defence was lowered.
Cresselia's leftovers restored its health a little!

    Cresselia is hurt by poison!
Cresselia lost 29% of its health.
    SteveyFalcon's Cresselia fainted.
    AquaMilotic wins!
    2-0
AquaMilotic: Good game. Finally. Now the battle is played.
    Earthworm: well done aquamilotic
    SteveyFalcon: lol
    AquaMilotic: A deserved win.
AquaMilotic: Do you allow me to write a warstory for Serebii?
SteveyFalcon: whatever, i don't care, go ahead
    AquaMilotic: Thank you.
    SteveyFalcon has left the room.
    FelGrand: Great match
Earthworm: there wasn't too much prediction
    Earthworm: but it was close
Earthworm: it might be suitable for serebii
AquaMilotic: I will write a warstory.
AquaMilotic: This was a nice battle.
AquaMilotic: This is not a perfect match, but definitely not bad.
Earthworm: you made the correct logical moves
AquaMilotic: But first Serebii needs a warstory forum.
    Earthworm: mostly
AquaMilotic: Reno (Serebii CRMT mod) has a thread to suggets ideas for the CRMT forum.
    Earthworm: oh i know reno
Earthworm: he is in my channel on IRC
AquaMilotic: When it comes to competitive battling, Serebii only has RMTs, no discussion/warstories.
AquaMilotic: I suggested a competitive battling forum with subforums.
Earthworm: he is a friend of one of my very close friends
AquaMilotic: Warstories, RMTs, discussion, guides and others.
AquaMilotic: Now there is a warstory thread to post them all in. No separate thread for each warstory. It will probably be ignored if I post it there. I will post it as a thread when the subforum split happened.

After winning, I got compliments. This was a memorable match. Really enjoyable and close. After talking to Earthworm, we chatted further over Shoddy PM. I saved the log. Altaria was the saving Pokémon with its great stalling.

This warstory was written before the subforum split.

Thank you for reading. I hope you enjoyed it.

Wow...so many criticals from Cresselia. I was like cringing right there. This kind of battle won't happen again for a while since Porygon-Z and Cresselia moved to BL. I believe Gorebyss could've lasted longer and, being the best rain sweeper of UU, could've swept the other team if they were on shaky grounds. I'm quite confident that Gorebyss will make it to the BL2 tier because of its capabilities in the rain. Be proud of your team. It's nice and every Pokemon that gets a bump up in a tier should be a "Yes! Someone else sees my Pokemon's potential." From that, I'm talking about your NU Gorebyss. I can almost guarantee it joining the new tier.

Heh altaria has killed even without dragon dance. You won even when haxed.
Start playing ubers, not OU. Serebii needs more ubers players!
