Thread: A very explosive battle

  1. #1

    Default A very explosive battle

Rules: Ladder Match, Sleep Clause, Freeze Clause, OHKO Clause, Evasion Clause, Species Clause, Strict Damage Clause, Soul Dew Clause

    A brief introduction:
The battle descriptions are copied from the ShoddyBattle log. This was a ranked OU match, against a random opponent. It was also the closest match I've ever seen.
Some of the language has been modified for family friendliness.

A quick clarification: the notation -> means switched to during the turn.

    gatherto’s team:
Aerodactyl, Starmie, Blissey, Breloom, Forretress, Charizard

    Farmy’s team:
Azelf, Breloom, Salamence, Swampert, Heatran, Latias

    vs

gatherto sent out Aerodactyl (lvl 100 Aerodactyl ?).
Farmy sent out Azelf (lvl 100 Azelf).
    Aerodactyl is exerting its pressure!
    Aerodactyl used Taunt.
    Azelf fell for the taunt!
    Azelf used Thunderbolt.
    It's super effective!
Aerodactyl lost 98% of its health.

    vs

    Aerodactyl used Stealth Rock.
Pointed stones float in the air around the foe's team!
    Azelf used Thunderbolt.
    It's super effective!
Aerodactyl lost 2% of its health.
    gatherto's Aerodactyl fainted.

OK, so this is about what I’d expect from the first few turns. I get a taunt in and get rocks up, then die.

    vs

gatherto switched in Blissey (lvl 100 Blissey ?).
    Azelf used Grass Knot.
Blissey lost 6% of its health.
    Blissey used Wish.
    Blissey made a wish!
Blissey's leftovers restored its health a little!
Blissey restored 6% of its health.

I’m not even sure why he tried grass knot, but it clearly wasn’t working.

    vs ->

Farmy switched in Salamence (lvl 100 Salamence ?).
    Salamence's Intimidate cut Blissey's attack!
    Pointed stones dug into Salamence.
Salamence lost 25% of its health.
    Blissey used Seismic Toss.
Salamence lost 27% of its health.
    The wish came true!

    vs

    Blissey used Protect.
    Blissey protected itself!
    Salamence used Roost.
Salamence restored 50% of its health.

This… was a pretty severe miscalculation on my part. Particularly because it allowed what happens next.

    vs

    Salamence used Dragon Dance.
    Salamence's attack was raised.
    Salamence's speed was raised.
    Blissey used Seismic Toss.
Salamence lost 27% of its health.

Wonderful… it’s a DDmence, and it’s about to become very painful.

    vs

    gatherto: drat
    Salamence used Dragon Dance.
    Salamence's attack was raised.
    Salamence's speed was raised.
    Blissey used Seismic Toss.
Salamence lost 27% of its health.

I don’t know why I even tried another seismic toss. Shows I’m a bit new, I guess. Oh well, damage control time.

    -> vs

    Farmy: =)
gatherto switched in Starmie (lvl 100 Starmie).
    Salamence used Roost.
Salamence restored 50% of its health.

I lucked out and got starmie in on a roost.

    vs

    Starmie used Ice Beam.
    It's super effective!
Salamence lost 95% of its health.
    Farmy's Salamence fainted.

    Farmy: o_O wasn't faster?
    gatherto: ahh there we go
    gatherto: scarfmie, dude
gatherto: man, that mence was gonna HURT soon, too
    Farmy: you’re telling me

Farmy switched in Azelf (lvl 100 Azelf).
    Pointed stones dug into Azelf.
Azelf lost 12% of its health.

    -> vs ->

gatherto switched in Blissey (lvl 100 Blissey ?).
Farmy switched in Breloom (lvl 100 Breloom ?).
    Pointed stones dug into Breloom.
Breloom lost 6% of its health.
    Breloom was badly poisoned!

This caught me completely off-guard, I was not expecting him to switch immediately. When he brought in breloom, I was absolutely freakin TERRIFIED. I use a sub-punch breloom myself, and against a blissey he can set up with ease. It didn’t help that blissey can’t take the sleep well, because of natural cure.

    Farmy: gotcha.
    gatherto: drat

    vs

    Breloom used Spore.
    Blissey fell asleep!
    Blissey is fast asleep!
    Breloom's Poison Heal restored health!
Breloom restored 6% of its health.

    -> vs

gatherto switched in Starmie (lvl 100 Starmie).
    Breloom used Substitute.
Breloom lost 25% of its health.
    Breloom made a substitute!
    Breloom's Poison Heal restored health!
Breloom restored 12% of its health.

I had only one pokemon who could handle breloom, though with breloom’s sub already up it was a craps shoot. Guess I have to go for it and hope he doesn’t realize the blissey had natural cure.

    vs

    Breloom is tightening its focus!
    Starmie used Ice Beam.
    It's super effective!
The substitute took damage for Breloom!
    Breloom's substitute faded!
    Breloom used Focus Punch.
    It's not very effective...
Starmie lost 69% of its health.
    Breloom's Poison Heal restored health!
Breloom restored 12% of its health.

Perfect. Now the breloom is forced to switch, though I’m still vulnerable to the same trick. My blissey is now effectively dead, even tho it’s at full health.

    Farmy: ah...wrong move.
    gatherto: eh
gatherto: seed bomb wouldn’t have killed me either i think

    vs ->

Farmy switched in Azelf (lvl 100 Azelf).
    Pointed stones dug into Azelf.
Azelf lost 12% of its health.
    Starmie used Ice Beam.
Azelf lost 47% of its health.

He’s gotta switch breloom out, but doesn’t want any of his other pokemon to eat an ice beam. so he chooses to just kill azelf, as it’s already mostly dead.

    vs

    Starmie used Ice Beam.
Azelf lost 28% of its health.
    Farmy's Azelf fainted.

Yep. With a free switch, I predict he’ll bring in a bulky water of some sort, and I’m unfortunately right.

    -> vs

Farmy switched in Swampert (lvl 100 Swampert ?).
    Pointed stones dug into Swampert.
Swampert lost 6% of its health.
gatherto switched in Blissey (lvl 100 Blissey ?).
    Swampert used Earthquake.
Blissey lost 34% of its health.
Swampert's leftovers restored its health a little!
Swampert restored 6% of its health.
Blissey's leftovers restored its health a little!
Blissey restored 6% of its health.

Farmy: ehh hold on a bit just thinkin..
Farmy: Does that Blissey have natural cure?
    gatherto: ding
    Farmy: Cuz then I could've spore'd the Starmie T_T
    Farmy: Sleep Clause stuff.
gatherto: glad you didn’t realize it before, I gotta say.

My thoughts here follow: “Man, I know he’s gonna switch in for breloom here. Then again, he may have said all that so I’d THINK he’s bringing in breloom, and is gonna kill starmie with earthquake and THEN bring him in… Crud, flip a freaking coin on it. Well, I guess I have one pokemon where I break even in both cases…”

    -> vs ->

gatherto switched in Breloom (lvl 100 Breloom ?).
Farmy switched in Breloom (lvl 100 Breloom ?).
    Pointed stones dug into Breloom.
Breloom lost 6% of its health.
    Breloom's Poison Heal restored health!
Breloom restored 7% of its health.
    Breloom was badly poisoned!

“Well,” I think, “I’m OK here. I put in the +4 EV speed investment on top of standard breloom for this exact situation. I’ll spore him and set up my sub.”

    vs

    Breloom used Spore.
    But it failed!
    Breloom used Spore.
    But it failed!
    Breloom's Poison Heal restored health!
    Breloom's Poison Heal restored health!

And now we both realize: Oh, right, he’s poisoned, isn’t he. At this point, I still think it was me who moved first.

    Farmy: Lol
    gatherto: lol
    gatherto: man
    Farmy: Already poisoned.

    vs

    Breloom used Substitute.
Breloom lost 25% of its health.
    Breloom made a substitute!
    Breloom used Substitute.
Breloom lost 25% of its health.
    Breloom made a substitute!
    Breloom's Poison Heal restored health!
Breloom restored 12% of its health.
    Breloom's Poison Heal restored health!
Breloom restored 12% of its health.

This went about how I expected, we both set up subs and get ready for the long haul. What I didn’t realize was that I was about to get entirely outpredicted.

    vs

    Breloom is tightening its focus!
    Breloom used Seed Bomb.
    It's not very effective...
The substitute took damage for Breloom!
    Breloom's substitute faded!
    Breloom used Focus Punch.
The substitute took damage for Breloom!
    Breloom's substitute faded!
    Breloom's Poison Heal restored health!
Breloom restored 12% of its health.
    Breloom's Poison Heal restored health!
Breloom restored 12% of its health.

    gatherto: ok
    gatherto: well this is odd

    vs

    Breloom is tightening its focus!
    Breloom used Substitute.
Breloom lost 25% of its health.
    Breloom made a substitute!
    Breloom used Focus Punch.
The substitute took damage for Breloom!
    Breloom's substitute faded!
    Breloom's Poison Heal restored health!
Breloom restored 0% of its health.
    Breloom's Poison Heal restored health!
Breloom restored 12% of its health.

And now I realize he’s not gonna sit and stall, because he knows he’ll lose the PP battle. “Ok, well, I’m faster,” I think, “I’ve still got this. I’ll just punch him first.”

    vs

    Breloom is tightening its focus!
    Breloom used Seed Bomb.
    It's not very effective...
Breloom lost 35% of its health.
    Breloom used Focus Punch.
Breloom lost its focus and couldn't move!
    Breloom's Poison Heal restored health!
    Breloom's Poison Heal restored health!
Breloom restored 12% of its health.

drat. Well, now he’s probably gonna predict I use a sub to absorb the seed.

    vs

    Breloom is tightening its focus!
    Breloom used Seed Bomb.
    It's not very effective...
Breloom lost 36% of its health.
    Breloom used Focus Punch.
Breloom lost its focus and couldn't move!
    Breloom's Poison Heal restored health!
    Breloom's Poison Heal restored health!
Breloom restored 12% of its health.

At this point I was considering crawling under a rock for a while. My breloom was dying, and I had no real backup. I thought the breloom was more important than my starmie, which would just make him switch out again and I’d get swampert to eat a weak ice beam. Not enough. But, hey, look. I’m faster, I can put up a sub and hope he uses bullet seed. Then I’ll at least get one punch in.

    vs

    Breloom used Seed Bomb.
    It's not very effective...
Breloom lost 36% of its health.
    Breloom used Substitute.
    But it failed!
    Breloom's Poison Heal restored health!
    Breloom's Poison Heal restored health!
Breloom restored 12% of its health.

And finally I learn that he was moving first all along. “Wait… how did… my substitute didn’t go up fast enough… but I used the normal speed +4 EV! I should be 1 faster than he is! Geez, what a gyp.” Well, though, now that breloom is well and truly dead, I give up starmie and take a different tone.

    gatherto: urgh
gatherto: you gotta be kidding me

    -> vs

gatherto switched in Starmie (lvl 100 Starmie).
    Breloom used Seed Bomb.
    It's super effective!
Starmie lost 31% of its health.
    gatherto's Starmie fainted.
    Breloom's Poison Heal restored health!

K, starmie died. So far, so good. Now for a good, old-fashioned scare tactic.

gatherto switched in Charizard (lvl 100 Charizard ?).
    Farmy: Ow..

Please, please, PLEASE switch out your breloom. PLEASE.

    vs ->

Farmy switched in Heatran (lvl 100 Heatran ?).
    Pointed stones dug into Heatran.
Heatran lost 12% of its health.
    Charizard used Substitute.
Charizard lost 25% of its health.
    Charizard made a substitute!

And now I’ve made life. I say a small thanks to whatever god happened to allow this.

    vs

    Charizard used Belly Drum.
Charizard lost 50% of its health.
    Charizard's attack was raised.
    Heatran used Flamethrower.
    It's not very effective...
The substitute took damage for Charizard!
    Charizard's substitute faded!
Charizard's Salac Berry raised its speed!

Here, my opponent is realizing his mistake. I’m practically salivating. This bellyzard has been known to sweep uber teams, scoring an OHKO against a wobboffet with reflect (stealth rock damage factored in, though).

    vs

    Charizard used Earthquake.
    It's super effective!
Heatran lost 88% of its health.
    Farmy's Heatran fainted.

gatherto: well, if you can take this down, its pretty well your game
gatherto: got a bullet punch I don’t know about?

    vs

Farmy switched in Latias (lvl 100 Latias ?).
    Pointed stones dug into Latias.
Latias lost 12% of its health.
    Charizard used Fire Punch.
    It's not very effective...
Latias lost 88% of its health.
    Farmy's Latias fainted.

Ok, the fact that I get a free OHKO tells me no, he doesn’t have any priority moves.

    Farmy: Meh a bellyzard?
    gatherto: bellyzard setup works wonders

    vs

Farmy switched in Swampert (lvl 100 Swampert ?).
    Pointed stones dug into Swampert.
Swampert lost 6% of its health.
    Charizard used Earthquake.

Charizard lost 25% of its health.
    gatherto's Charizard fainted.
Swampert's leftovers restored its health a little!
Swampert restored 6% of its health.

(Wilhelm scream) why, why, WHY didn’t that kill it? 6.25% off of stealth rock, 94% damage, I HAVE KILLED SWAMPERTS THIS WAY BEFORE.

    Farmy: ?
    Farmy: oh
    Farmy: lucky

    Breloom's Poison Heal restored health!
Breloom restored 12% of its health.

gatherto: how are you always faster?
Farmy: I think it might be the IVs. I based this breloom off of a one I have with max IVs in speed and attack
gatherto: you gotta be joking… who does that for a BRELOOM anymore?
    Farmy: me, apparently
    gatherto: touche

    -> vs ->

gatherto switched in Forretress (lvl 100 Forretress ?).
Farmy switched in Swampert (lvl 100 Swampert ?).
    Pointed stones dug into Swampert.
Swampert lost 6% of its health.

Well, that explains things. He’s running a max speed breloom.

    vs

    Forretress used Payback.
    A critical hit!
Swampert lost 0% of its health.
    Farmy's Swampert fainted.

I now take out the reaming 0.25% of his health. That is the single most annoying health point I have ever seen.

    vs

Farmy switched in Breloom (lvl 100 Breloom ?).
    Pointed stones dug into Breloom.
Breloom lost 6% of its health.

    Breloom's Poison Heal restored health!
Breloom restored 12% of its health.

OK, now I can use blissey safely, as I don’t need to fear spore. Or not, as we soon see.

Farmy: all the other IVs are so crappy though XD
gatherto: it doesn’t seem to be hurting you much though

    -> vs

Blissey lost 79% of its health.
    gatherto's Blissey fainted.
    Breloom's Poison Heal restored health!
Breloom restored 12% of its health.

[B]Drat. Blissey kinda fails as a physical wall. My only pokemon left is the sleepy forretress, which will likely die to a single focus punch.
    [B]
gatherto switched in Forretress (lvl 100 Forretress ?).
gatherto: well, gg. pity about the zard, but you outplayed me

    vs

    Forretress woke up!
    Forretress used Explosion.
Breloom lost 87% of its health.
    Farmy's Breloom fainted.
    gatherto wins!

    THE WINNER:

I would like to congratulate my forretress on its victory, I simply wish it wasn’t currently in splinters, lodged into everything in the area. Including breloom.

    gatherto: O_o
gatherto: HOW DID I EVEN WIN THAT
    Farmy: LOL
    Farmy: very nice XD
gatherto: i thought you had that one locked up
    Farmy: I should've done substitute.
    gatherto: yep
gatherto: explosion FTW I guess… amazed that I won that way
    Farmy: haha good match.
gatherto: it was my only hope, and it paid off

Nothing beats really close matches like this one, where the line between victory and defeat is hair-thin.

You both had some really lucky moments too, like getting Starmie in while DDmence were Roosting (pretty much anything but roost would have caused you one heck of a lot of trouble), or Swampert surviving a Bellyzard's EQ (must have been one heck of a wtf moment).

When a battle's even this interesting to read about, you know it was epic.

Breloom's seed bomb would've OHKOed starmie. A lot of variation was involved and you were lucky. I would've definitely subbed first in case of what happened though.

Sweet battle! It had few mistakes and minimal hax, it was great! Really intense near the end as well, it makes me want to get back on shoddy.

There was'nt very many critical hits, but you know...

    Crit Happens.

Really good battle. I was lol'ing at the Bellyzard and the Wobbafett KO. I mean, I trained a Darkrai with DarkPulse with Timid Nature, Perfect IV's, and 255 EV's in SA and 255 EV's in Speed. I didn't KO Wobba, it I didn't have SR up and it was left with a silver of health :'(.
