It's true they came out a while ago, but they never disproved them. Actually, the appearance of the "weather" icon on the fight menu reinforced it.

But it hasn't been proved or disproved.

Here's where we're at, for people who are a bit lost (I'm using as fully romanized names as possible):

50 have official Sugimori art released, 7 do not.
1 is seen covered in Musical Accessories.
3 (Zorua, Zoroark, Victini) do not appear in normal BW game play and must be accessed via an event.
7 Evolution chains have been confirmed. Zoroa --> Zoroark & Munna --> Musharna, Minezumi --> Miruhoggu & Moguryuu --> Doryuuzu, the 3 starters' lines and Shikijika --> Mebukijika.
It is presumed that Darumakka evolves into Hihidaruma, Kibago into Ononokusu, and Dongoro into Gigaiath.

Revealed in 2chan Images on 9/7/10:
Hatohpoh a tall bird Pokemon, hypothesized to be an evolution of Mamepato, since "Hato/Pato" means Pigeon, plus an overall design similarity.

That's another 1.

Play-doh Set, Name Only:
Onokkusu; presumably related to Ononokusu, but see below.
Burokko; could come from Broccoli or block.

Add 2 to the total then.

Note: The Amazon listing for the Play-doh set mispells Pikachu (ピカチュウ） as ピカチュー (Pikachu-) and Pokabu (ポカブ) as ホカプ (Hokapu), so these two names may not be 100% correct.

Altogether we know of/have seen a confirmed 106 of the new Pokemon, with it being 60 minus the two major leaks.

Rumors:
The rumors below in the spoiler tag are false as Korobooshi Kojiro has come forth and said he created them himself; both the GameFAQ and Pokejungle ones are affected.

Jiari (ant), Karakasu (marrionette, baynette relation?), Nenzura (bird), Nezumidori (Nezumimi's evolution with a tree on its head)

Come from a post on GameFAQs boards 6/7/10 (JPN date) with many specific details about the Anime, allegedly via a Japanese person working of Oriental Light and Magic as a story board clean up artist. Awaiting confirmation. The original thread has now been deleted. Also gave the names "Yuudatsu" and "Tsutawire".
Those rumors also alleged: the male next to Iris in the promo image of Best Wish is Reimu, an effeminate male who owns a Munna. Iris's first on show capture is a Koromori after it is seen attacking a farm. She does, however, already owns a Namakusu with which she holds a close bond - closer than normal trainers. Iris specializes in "Pokemon Communication." The tall, adult male from the leaked art is her mentor. Iris is eccentric and uses many older style Japanese sayings - like someone from the times of Samurai. Her design was given to OLM from Game Freak - she appears to be a character from the games. There will be 10 Best Wish episodes aired before the end of the year.

From Pokejungle 7/7/10 (JPN date), allegedly from someone at working in the localization department at NoA:
Boilbuta & Ranranbo (Pokabu's evos), Tsutatesla (Tsutarja's final), Rakkobushi (Mijumaru's final), Atlacross (Heracross evo), Kasame (One-eyed Umbrella demon), Toraroya (large, metallic Tiger), Meemeera (firey/smokey sheep), Makkusuma (Ice/Fire), Onokusu (Between Namakusu/Onokusu).

Note, that the "leaker" confirmed the names of "Yuudatsu" and "Tsutawire." Also note that Pokejungle also commented in the thread on GameFAQs and was the only major site to post it on their front page, leading some to speculate the the GameFAQ user is fake and simply manipulated the only person who posted the rumors into believing more, while providing a seeming "second source" for his original fake rumors.
Note: All the non-confirmed Pokemon's names fit with the Japanese games' limitation of 5 characters for a Pokemon name and all of them make sense in the language, are not particularly unusual or bad and some require a high level of understanding of Japanese culture and how puns work in the language in their creation.

These come from 2chan, reported on BlueSky and allegedly come from someone who managed to play some sort of demo of the games. Notes on the name meanings are italicized and in brackets. Thanks to Masuda's recent blog stating no old Pokemon would be in the Isshu dex, these are now false.

It does seem plausable that the weather items could be true, but I don't think there would be more than 4, let alone 20.( one for sun, rain, hail, and another for normal) unless they add other weather conditions, such as wind, clouds, or other things, which I think would be cool and add more diversity to the reigon, there could be a route that's very windy, making it hard to walk upwind.

I'm not directing this at the messenger, but at the message:

I don't believe a single one of these rumors. Not one. The skeptics are right--this is way too much for leaks. We never get the evos of the Starters this early. As much as I'd love for them to be true--because these are some cool ideas (for the most part)--they just aren't clicking. This is a little much.

I hope it's false. I'm confident it is--what's the point of giving Pokemon the ability to change the weather when suddenly some 10-year-old kid can do it with an item? At that point I'd start getting angry at GameFreak.

You're right, there is no reason to believe any of the rumors.

There is no reason to ever believe anything without evidence.

As much as I might like some of these to be true, until I see photographic/video proof from a source it's in the "not true" basket (as distinct from fake). If discredited they move to fake, if proven they move to true and we'll deal with that when it comes.

Hopefully we'll see something in Corocoro that confirms or disproves these (like Iris's silhouette proved the 4 Pokemon in the anime sketch), but I wouldn't bet the house on it. We may have to wait until the games show up before we're 100% sure one way or the other on all of them.

Fog and Sandstorm are viable options too.

Love all the starters. Hope the otter evolves into something AMAZING! Everyone hates him and quite a few hate "Smugleaf".... But I love them all! The pig is awesome, the snake is cool, and the otter is cute! They have them all. :l But everyone hates the otter....

Hope he turns all Gyarados on us..... or else no one will get him.

I really wish that someone could confirm that these will be playable on an American DSi even if the game is japanese. I really don't feel like wasting money on these if not.

So...many...rumors...

I was being all, "rumors are bad! *stab*" in the beginning. Especially about triple battles. Then it came true. And a few other rumors came true.

But ALL of this is a bit much. Once again, I'm going back to my "rumors are LIES" mode. Too many people claiming to be from 'inside the company'. I'll just wait until things are confirmed. Like the Beta Art for the anime was and stuff like that. Unless it's confirmed it's not real in my mind.

Though it is cool to read the crazy (and/or cool) things people come up with.

I think I'm most excited to see the evolutions of the starters since it IS the first Pokemon you get. All three have grown on me (which is saying something, because I liked all three of them (more or less) in the beginning). It would be cool if the entire starter rumors were true. Though I'm not sure how I feel about Tsutaja being rumored to evolve into a cobra-esque thing. Seems a bit outlandish. And the Pokabu evolutions are bit predictable. Obviously Pokabu = flaming boar. I was hoping the rumors would be more interesting, like giving out second types, or some non-vague info so I can be like, 'HAH! TOTALLY FAKE!" or "OMG! It was true." when it comes out.

"Jap" comes from WWII and whether it is offensive depends on the person, some people don't mind, some people get really offended. Whether or not you mean it to be offensive you should at least be aware some people don't like the term and may get offended or interpret your meaning differently.

In other news, that rumor thread from GameFAQs that gave us all the names and anime details and stuff has been deleted. Garbage time, methinks.

Unless beta testers are going wild, I doubt most of these rumors are true. I came across beta testers for HGSS, and info was kept tightly.

That's funny because Heracross is called Herakurosu (Heracross) and Tauros is called Kentaros (Kentauros) in Japanese.

Besides, Atlas as a Greek myth or the Atlas beetle and the Minotaur are both fairly transparent concepts for Japanese people too and derive their Japanese pronunciations/orthographic representations from the modern English equivalent anyway.

But, they might not be real, so it doesn't really matter in the end. If they aren't real, though, it's not because of a fault in the naming.

only an extremely over sensitive person could get offended by some kid using
an abbreviation on a word. and it wasn't like i was calling people a jap, i was talking about what the word means in japanese. and i dont think that an over sensitive person would be playing pokemon, you know, they take crap everyday.
