Default The Big Anime Move Catalog

Welcome to the Anime Move Catalog. With the recent influx of Pokemon attack related posts, I've discussed among my fellow members about the creation of a thread to gather every last attack into one spot.

The big purpose here is for us to list out all the attacks that the Main Characters' Pokemon have learned throughout the years as a guide for the general public. Not only will it be used as a Database, but also as a place to discuss any Pokemon specific attacks and how they relate in the Anime.

We'll start from the ground up. If you request a move be added to the list, state the Character, the Pokemon, the attack, and please provide some proof of its use by said Pokemon, by means of linking to an Episode Synopsis or translating dialogue and so.

All attacks will remain up for debate as to whether or not it should be included on a certain Pokemon.

Use Ctrl+F to find your favorite character!

All attacks in Italics have a sketchy origin. This includes, but are not limited to:

    - HM moves
    - Attacks that are similar to an existing one
    - Attacks that are not given a name
    - Attacks that are based on a certain characteristic
    - Attacks that are ordered but not seen

And finally... Bulbasaur does not know Whirlwind and Dig, for cryin' out loud!

When Pikachu leaped onto the field to battle that Butterfree in the Indigo Plateau, the stadium announcer (at least in the dub) said that the attack Pikachu used was Double-Edge. Pikachu has also used Tackle a few times in Johto, but that doesn't seem right to me for some reason...they may have been dub errors. Or not. Heck, even James' Victreebel used Tackle once.

    Ash's Charmander/Charmeleon/Charizard:
    Flamethrower - standard
Ember - Orange Islands, I think vs Poliwrath
Seismic Toss - vs Blaine's Magmar and at other times
    Fire Spin - many times
    Fly - vs Falkner's Pidgeot
Take Down - somewhere in the Orange Islands
Mega Punch - Ash called for it against Tad's Poliwrath, but Charizard never used it due to disobedience
Submission - it used an aerial version of this move against Blaine's Magmar
Dragon Rage - Clair's Gym, Silver Conference

I think Pikachu had also used Double Edge in one episode... though only once... and it could have easily been Quick Attack.

Tackle seems like it would be an error. Pikachu can't get Tackle in any of the games. It was more than likely one of those generic shoves that're so popular.

I'll add Double-Edge if you both are saying it. It'll be in Italics as an "unsure" attack.

    Brock's Onix:
    Tackle - many times
Rock Throw - vs Meowth in "Who Gets to Keep Togepi?", vs the fire in "Great Bowls of Fire!"
Sandstorm - done without a direct order against the column of water in "Entei At Your Own Risk!"
Dig - it's used the travelling version of Dig on several occasions, but never the battle version. At least not in the dub. It used it in the Brock Hoso Special though.

    Brock's Geodude
Rock Throw - It's gotta have used it at some point, but I can't remember when. Maybe when Ash battled Brock?
    Tackle - several different times
Seismic Toss - vs Ekans in "Pokemon Fashion Flash"
(That's all I've seen it do, sadly.)

    Brock's Zubat/Golbat/Crobat:
Sonicboom - in Lapras of Luxury against Team Rocket. Apparently it was the same in the original version, but that's a mistake, since Crobat can't learn that move. It should have been Gust or Whirlwind.
Wing Attack - a few different times
    Supersonic - many times

    Brock's Vulpix:
    Flamethrower - standard move
Quick Attack - dodging the Skarmory in "Hot Matches!"...at least, I think it was supposed to be Quick Attack...it was dubbed as Agility, which Vulpix can't learn.

    It's spelled Sludge.

And the only two attacks Meowth has ever used are Scratch and Fury Swipes.

And Bind I'd assume, from the Pewter Gym battle.

Wasn't Fire Spin used on its debut episode?

    Ash's Kingler:
    - Vicegrip
    - Stomp
    - Bubblebeam
    - Crabhammer
    - Hyper Beam
Actually, that was regular ol' Bubble it use. And I do believe it performed a Leer too on Exeggutor.

    Jessie's Lickitung:
    - Lick
    - Wrap
    - Supersonic
    - Slam
Just a quick question - Which episode was Supersonic used?

    Ash's Muk:
    - Sludge
    - Sludge Bomb
I'll also be sure to add the Bellsprout Body Slam.

Bind, yep. I think Lickitung used Supersonic in "Ignorance is Blissey." If not, it did for sure use it once. Fire Spin? Yeah I believe so.

    James' Chimecho:
    Heal Bell - many times
Astonish - the Contest where Jessie used it
    Double-Edge - same

    James' Cacnea:
    Pin Missile - starting move
    Needle Arm - many times
Sandstorm - "Cheer Pressure!" and at least one other time

    Jessie's Wurmple/Cascoon/Dustox:
Tackle - starting move apparently, although I don't think it used it until it became a Dustox
String Shot - only used as Wurmple and maybe Cascoon, not as Dustox
Harden - only used as Cascoon, vs James' Cacnea while trying to get Cascoon to evolve

    Some Johtos...

Tackle - Use almost every episode.
Vine Whip - Debut episode and so on.
Razor Leaf - Debut episode and so on.
Body Slam - Chuck battle as well as various others.

    Cyndaquil:
    Tackle - "Hot Matches!"
    Flamethrower - Debut/"Hot Matches!"
    Swift - "One Trick Phoneys!"
    Smokescreen - "One Trick Phoneys!"
Agility - Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it happened in Bugsy's Gym battle.

    Totodile:
    Bite - Standard.
    Water Gun - Standard.
Scary Face - "One Trick Phoneys!"
    Headbutt - "One Trick Phoneys!"

Totodile also learned Slash while battling in "Just Add Water!"

Charmander also used Leer against a Gastly in early Kanto, and Pikachu (oddly enough) used it against a Houndour in the Houndour ep in early Johto.

I'm certain Cyndaquil has also used Quick Attack, although I can't name an episode for it.

Thanks Geo. I also added Wrap to Chimecho, as it used it on Loudred during random scenes in the contests. Plus, it suffocated James lots too.

Can any of you confirm if Totodile has used Leer or Bayleef has used Sweet Scent?

Not sure on those, and check my edit above your post, V Faction.

    Ash's Noctowl:
    Tackle - starting move
Foresight - the first Ecruteak episode
Peck - only against Team Rocket's balloon, on many occasions
Confusion - learned while battling Morty
    Hypnosis - starting move

Oh yeah, Charizard also used Whirlwind once, I think it was in the very first Johto episode, "Don't Touch that 'Dile!". Ash sent it out to Whirlwind away Weezing's Smokescreen.

Fury Attack - "The Ties that Bind"/"Tie One On", mistaken for Fury Swipes in the dub
Leef - "Wired for Battle" briefly used on Scizor, but failed.

lol, you meant to say Leer, not Leef. You also forgot Endure, he used it when he was battling Donphan in "Roll On, Pokémon".

Brock also instructed Foretress to use Spikes in "A Tail With a Twist" although that might have only been in the dub, it looked like something else to me. =/

Forretress can't learn Spike Cannon, it must have been Spikes. Forretress used Spikes as a Pineco once...I'm not sure when though. It was aiming at some sort of targets.

Ash's Bulbasaur also knows Sleep Powder, it used it against the Tauros in "Two Hits and a Miss".

    Ash's Phanpy:
    Tackle - starting move
    Take Down - starting move
    Rollout - starting move
Growl - James read it from his guidebook as one of Phanpy's moves, but Phanpy never actually used it
Earthquake - against Macy's Slugma in the Silver Conference
    Defense Curl - starting move
