    Default Friend Codes are BS.

Seriously, I may as well just find somebody else in person who has the game and fight them if we're going to have to meet at a specific time. It's not like people are just going to be waiting around in the wi-fi club room all day.

That's why we have the trade thread and stuff like that; it helps people set up battles and trades. Besides, there's going to be a random match system in Black/White, so it won't be long until friend codes are unneeded.

I know they're annoying, but we just have to live with them until Black and White come along.

Some of us don't have friends who play IRL.

Or at least none who live in the same city...

Yeah, I know that; but I was talking about the main games where Nintendo is worried kids might "view offensive content and receive modified data".

Yeah it is very tedious and hassle filled. I wish there were randomized battles on the handheld games and that there were options for us to be connected to the online throughout the game. Being able to challenge people whenever by going to the menu or something.

However I think its far too obvious for GameFreak or Nintendo to implement it though. lol.

A couple of bad experiences shouldn't put you off.

There are other ways to contact people, like Willow's Tara said you should try the wifi chat, that might be easier for you to use.

So Nintendo would be worried about kids viewing "offensive content" and "modified data" while playing a handheld game, but not while playing PBR?
I don't see the logic int hat.

Anyway, Black and White's new Random Match generator is pretty obviously going to be the same as with PBR. I don't see what else it would be, so chances are Friend Codes will be less important in the 5th Gen.

(For safety's sake, the Random Match system in BW will probably be soundless and have the mic turned off (and camera, too). At the most, you can toggle the settings to turn the mic and camera off anyway. Non-issue there.)

I hope friend codes go by the wayside. Random battles are where it's at, in any multiplayer game. It keeps things fresh, rather than battling the same person over and over.

I personally hope these friend codes and such get replaced with a conventional server browser, using a lobby system. This is one of the first and best methods of organizing online matches. The enormously successful Valve games make use of this system and variants, maybe GF could take some hints from Valve?

When it comes to cheaters and griefers, they happen, but that's what banning is for. Have a look at the Valve Anti-Cheat system. Considering each Wii console and DS has its own tag, this sort of system could also be used.

Well, I've never played PBR, so correct me if I'm wrong, but the voice chat thing may be an issue. Once again, I may be wrong, but I believe the simplicity of hacking the DS games as compared to PBR is a factor.

Regardless, there's definitely a reason Nintendo made FCs a necessity, and since the Pokemon game booklets talk about offensive content, modified data, playing with people you know and all that jazz, I'm just going by that explanation; if you have an alternative one, why not mention it?

    It makes perfect sense.

The DS games have Voice Chat. PBR doesn't. Also, PBR is exclusively about battling, so it would be kind of pathetic if they didn't have it.

    So yeah.

I quoted the person who said "thats why we have the trade thread and stuff like that" so since it's slow you don't get people replying to you quickly. I've been viewing the forums before I signed up never registered. Also because I like to talk about pokemon. lol

I like Friend Code mechanics just fine. The drawback is that it's not immediate, sure, but the bonus is that you get to set up the rules you want. Plus, maybe you actually make a friend during the coordination.
