Wow. Yeah I'd have thought it would've been a lot closer then that.

    Thanks.

Oh wait, while I'm thinking about it- I remember seeing on tv that the Cy Young vote was tied one year (I can't remember which). Did they declare both pitchers the winner that year, or did they have some kind of tiebreaker?

Looks like that would have been 1969 in the AL. There were co-winners that year, evidently.

Well good news (depending on certain peoples version of "good") for my favorite team the Tigers, Raburn's gone and Porcello is likely staying as he changed his number from 48 to 21 (Tori is keeping number 48)

Known both bits of info. for a few days. Good that Raburn's gone, but I'm indifferent on Porcello. Would still prefer the Tigers to trade him and start Smyly, but of course, they do need to try to get Sanchez signed first.

If Sanchez doesn't lower his 90 mil dreams... I expect the same rotation we had mid season this year

A publicized number change doesn't at all preclude him from being traded.

He's not going to get 90M. No one wants to pay him that much.

I never said it was guaranteed, just that it seems likely... he's still got plenty of time to improve given his age (which is why I think the organization wants to keep him).

Evan Longoria is signed through 2022 by the Rays! That is a shocker to me. never thought the Rays would give out a 100 million dollar contract

And yet Pirates fans are upset about this signing, because they feel we should have gotten a better catcher. The only other decent catchers on the market were McCann (injury issues (so it could have been Ryan Doumit all over again)), Napoli (going to be 32 and would have cost way too much), Ruiz (see Napoli), and Pierzynski (35 currently). So Martin was among the best choices out there. Also, people want to see fan favorite McKenry be the starter, even though he struggled getting the bulk of the playing time when Barajas was hurt.

If your fellow Pirates fans keep harping on it, remind them that Brian McCann isn't a free agent, and if he were, he too would be priced out of the Pirates' budget.

Well Sanchez apparently doesn't want to lower his expected 90 mil 6 year deal yet. The Tigers offered him a 48 mil 4 year contract, but he turned them down

I knew shields was gone soon anyways

Nice to get some good prospects for him, although I can't understand why he wasn't worth a major leaguer

I'm sure someone of your stature would have no problem finding Wil Myers' minor league numbers, so I certainly won't bore you with those, but for someone whose every fourth or fifth post during the season bemoans Tampa's lack of offense and who bemoans his team's lack of a huge payroll with which to sign the top free agents (usually in the form of anger at other teams), "I can't understand why he wasn't worth a major leaguer" is a puzzling response at best. You traded away one okay starter and a swingman (clearing $11-12 mil from your 2013 payroll in the process) and got back a player who can hit, who is 21 and, to the benefit of your small-market team, hasn't had his MLB freshness seal broken yet. And this doesn't even touch that you got Odorizzi back too.

Of the major leaguers on Kansas City's roster with any realistic shot of being traded - that definitely eliminates Hosmer and Moustakas and maaaaybe eliminates Butler and Gordon right off the bat - who would you have wanted? There's not an abundance of talent on that major league roster that they'd be willing to part with.

Point is, try help me to understand what the trade doesn't do for you, when by all accounts the Rays made out fantastically in this deal.

I can't believe he came here. I never expect the Royals to make a big trade for anyone. Hopefully it'll work out.

I think a number of fans around here would probably riot if either of those 2 were traded (not that I necessarily expect the team to regard that).

They should be ready to riot over this. Not literally, of course, but this was not a good trade for Kansas City.

Ok, I have had a chance to look at all the stats of the guys we got and really think about this trade. I have to agree. Rays made out like bandits. and you are probably right that KC would not have traded any of those major leaguers. I would have wanted Butler, but I think there was absolutely no chance of that. I really, really like this Myers kid. Analysts have been comparing him to Trout, Harper, Longoria etc. I am sad to see one of my favorites go in shields, but Friedman made another great deal to make up for it

In the long run, I think this hurts KC badly. Shields and Davis aren't enough to put them over the top imo.
