Ash's Tepig and Oshawott improved a lot so that was great. I just thought that Lenora's team was too bland so I didn't like this gym match much. 6/10

I liked seeing Ash train with Tepig and Oshawott, especially cuz they learned Flame Charge and Aqua Jet. Watchog and Oshawott tying was interesting, plus Tepig winning against Herdier was impressive.

I was expecting Aloe versus Satoshi round two to be almost a clean sweep for Satoshi now that his Mijumaru and Pokabu knew new attacks, but they still struggled. Mijumaru knocking out Miruhog was the best bit, but Iris needed to keep a better eye on her Kibago during the Battle Club scenes.

This was the first episode without Team Rocket since the pilot. Now I've gotten used to occasional episodes without them, but the first time it was like a big void. Apart from that, it was nice to see Tepig and Oshawott learn new moves and I'm glad Ash earned his second Unova badge.

This gym match was better than the last. And the training part was a nice change of pace. In any other season, the the training with Don George alone would have been the basis for this ENTIRE episode, and the training would have been interrupted by an easily thwarted plot by Team Rocket.

Honestly though, I wouldn't have minded if Ash's training session had lasted a whole episode. He deserved the training screen-time.

Why does Ash need a specialist to help him train when in Sinnoh he was great at doing it by himself. Yeah I know this is a "reset", but he has never needed so much help before.
