This area could just be for tech demo purposes.
It is a problem with travel becomes too tedious, and 3D Zelda has a relatively bad-ish history of that. Wind Waker had cool places to visit, but going back and forth between them could get kind of boring.

I hope they add a checkpoint system system similar to ALBW, but I'm kind of worried they won't.

So we didn't get an epic, all guns-blazing, seat-wetting showstopper of a reveal. I don't mind. The game looks great and that's all I really care about.

Have to agree with the comments saying the overworld looks a little barren, however. I hope they're not going to do essentially what OoT Hyrule Field did and have space simply for space's sake. Or maybe I've gotten too used to the utilitarian compactness of SS.

They could add some more things in between now and the games release. With a game world that large I'm sure they wont leave it completely barren, we also didn't get to see a great deal of it.

I'm sure their still gonna improve on the AI with the horse running into other horses, the slight gliding that it does, etc. The fact that it doesn't run into tree's, or you don't have to really use the controls while riding leaves the player the option to multitask. Looking at the map, going into your inventory, fighting enemies on horseback, etc.
I got really excited seeing how huge the map is, especially considering how it took them to reach the marker which didn't really look that far on the map. One concern while watching was that there really wasn't that much action going on while they were playing. Exploring this large map and seeing all the wonderful landscapes will be amazing....but it'll get a little tedious traveling if nothing really happens unless you get near a dungeon. I just hope they add the random events like they showed in the first cinematic trailer. Lot's of baddies appearing at night, etc.

Anyways, I'm excited for this game and after seeing this gameplay footage I can't wait to play it.

I'm with other people on Zelda U: It's not about the size of the overworld, but rather what you can do with it. That means settlements, Wind Waker-style mini-dungeons and interesting characters. Also all the random stuff you can do. Collecting and eating apples was already mentioned in the trailer, and its distractions like that that make the world feel like its full of stuff to do.

I'm also interested as to how we'll interact with this large lakes and other inland bodies of water #windwaker2k15.

Funny how the reveal of the gigantic Hyrule overworld got me more excited for the game while others wanted a better showcase. It was essentially a teaser and it did its job.

This is what I'm worried about, if anything. The overworld didn't look too lively until they got to that monument where enemies spawned.

Twilight Princess got a big world too, and that was still mostly barren and lifeless.

I don't think the AI will be fixed. Perfect AI in games won't be happening for a long time, if ever. Hopefully Epona can jump. Sliding because there was a rock in her pathway was jarring. And letting the game take you from Point A to Point B is old. New for the Zelda franchise maybe, but other games have been doing this in forever. In GTAIV for example, the taxi cabs will never hit any cars along the way, and it will react to traffic lights accordingly.

Of course I'm not asking for it to be perfect. Just needs to be improved upon still. The game looks pretty amazing so far, but still needs a lot of work(which was already said that the team is hard at work).

The openworld is better than I had expected, I'll enjoy exploring as much of it as I can when the game comes out. As much as I'll enjoy every now and then some quite riding through the land, I really hope there's a nice balance of peace and chaos with the random events mentioned at E3. The other Zelda game I can compare it to that I've played is OoT, where not much happens in the Hyrule Field. As big as this world looks I seriously hope this won't happen.

I suppose I should knock off the pessimism. I do enjoy some things about large worlds. I found sailing around in WW or riding around on Epona in Twlight Princess enjoyable at times, even if it was tedious at others.

It only really becomes tedious when I have to backtrack, however. I'm really hoping for bird statues or weather vanes or something to warp around with conveniently.

I imagine that was just for the purpose of the demo, they probably just wanted to show off the scenery and not have to worry about running into enemies all the time.

Yeah, I'd prefer a small overworld packed with stuff than a large one that's virtually empty. Zelda does do sidequests and interesting characters incredibly well though, so I'm expecting it to be full of stuff eventually. I do really want to see some interesting settlements though, they always tend to have one hub town (Windfall, Skyloft etc.) and then confine everyone else to living in caves. It'd be interesting to have, say, a Goron city similar to the likes of Kakariko, with multiple sidequests and a proper village feel.

I'd like to see them add some rpg elements, or anything else to make fighting the weak enemies more rewarding. It doesn't have to be a strict exp/level up system, but there are other options that would offer more permanent incentive than rupees.

I think they should add brewing, where some enemies may drop materials you can brew to make potions to use, like healing or strength to use in battle.
    Too much water guys!

Or similarly, I really liked the upgrade system in Skyward Sword. It was really rewarding but didn't really force you to grind for any long periods of time.

But eff getting feathers from the birds. That was easily the worst part of the upgrade system for me. Catching those birds had a bit of a learning curve, and required more precision and timing than any boss battle.

Speaking of Xenoblade Chronicles X, I'm gonna find it really hard to play both of these massive games.
I have a feeling though that I'm gonna favor Zelda more cause it looks fantastic. I really can't wait to explore this game

That footage was amazing. I don't care about graphics at this point, the art style from Day 1 worked for me so much, and now that we have a confirmation that the world is absolutely humongous, for Zelda at least, I can now wait patiently till they have the material needed to do a proper unveiling. Sure it looks empty now, but I trust Nintendo enough to fill it up with the needed stuff. Insect hunting was my favorite thing in TP for example, so if they manage to include not just 20 but say like 100-150 species of bugs, then I will be very happy. I like going out there and categorizing the wildlife, same thing with fishing too. Give us a proper ecosystem for every aspect of wildlife.

Also, does anyone else think Link's new companion is going to be some magical animal? I personally want a hawk, that can be used to get a lay of the land through some sort of empath powers between it and Link. Another thing, I feel that for this game some sort of Spanish guitar would be perfect for the musical instrument of this game. Strumming on the game pad, stuff like that. Not to mention I would find it very magical to sit in front of a bonfire at night time at the edge of Lake Hylia, to play something like the song of healing to rest for the night. Not to mention I want the final battle to be an epic guitar duel between link and Ganon

In Hyrule Warriors, is there some way to change what Epona looks like or am I crazy?

Epona's three weapon variants look different than each other, but the one sitting at level 3 is the Epona of Time variant.

Alternatively, use the Dark Link outfit and she'll be just as dark as him.

I don't think anyone else noticed this, but I watched GameXplain's Game Awards video when they zoomed in on the TV, and I saw that, when they used the sail cloth, the magic meeter went down a tiny bit.

“My brother, whom you killed. My brother, Linus….It’s none of your business……”

I have claimed Ivan from Golden Sun, Bayleef, and Kingdom Hearts-Chain of Memories for the GBA.

Oh I see. How do I unlock them? Adventure mode or just through weapon drops?

    -Uh oh.
