I am so unlucky...The only shiny Pokemon I ever ran into was when I was training my cousin's Pokemon on his game for him. I kept begging him to give it to me, but he ignored me. Lately I've been trying to get the lake trio shiny on Diamond

I recently started hunting shinies on my Platinum about a month ago, after wrapping up my Chimchar solo-run.

I'd never purposefully tried to hunt them before, but figured I'd give it a shot. For practice first, in order to get used to using the Pokeradar, I went and chained Starly/Shinx on route 202. After a couple hours of trial and error, and much cursing at Bidoof for breaking my chains, I came out victorious with my first shiny Starly (Who is now a pretty boss Staraptor). Shinx sadly was playing hard to get, so I jumped around for awhile, SRing for Dialga and attempting to chain a few other miscellaneous things such Buizel and Shellos, I next set my sights on Electabuzz. Since I wanted to try something different from chaining, I decided to pull the ol' max-repel static trick. Luck came to me, but in a different way. After what I would estimate to be 1700-1800 random encounters, I ran into this guy instead. Not as sweet as Electabuzz, but a pretty good consolation prize regardless. I refuse to evolve it as I prefer Magnetons design over Magnezone. Finally, I went back for Shinx, and the very next morning after catching the Magneton, this little guy appeared on a chain of 9.

So hey, I feel pretty accomplished for being new at this. Currently, I'm SR'ing for Dialga and then I probably plan to go back for Electabuzz again. I really love the look of Shiny Electivire and I don't plan to go anywhere until I get myself one.

I was looking for shiny Larvitar yesterday with Pokeradar- I didn't find any I had chain of 35 and I looked for almost an hour... then I decided to try chain of 40- I shouldn't have tried- the last 40th pokemon was NOT larvitar but Machop.... I continued but I was unable to get chains longer than 30..... I'm bit frustrated
