Default Official 5th Gen. EV/IV (Training) Thread

On a lot of other threads there are questions about EV/IV training and other stuff like the wing's on the bridges in pokemon B/W. Well here can you discuss all this stuff. Just talk about your experience and what you are training right now. And of course all the Serebiiforums rules apply here as well.

Hope you have a great time discussing!

If you can collect 252 of them, they are worth it.

actually, given i get 10-12 ev's a pokemon, its probably faster to train them than go through the bag using 252 feathers lol(though B/W finally introduced the continuous use option.)

I want a tyranitar before my garchomp to try and get some of that hax to swing my way in super singles.(first time using a pseudo legendary in garchomp, now they may end up comprising my entire team of 3. i feel dirty )

anyways, i wanna go the choice band set. but my max speed IV ditto, and the fact i only own the spd/atk power items, make it so much easier to do a scarf set. ive never used choice scarf before. i'm contemplating how effective it would against battle subway AI. First i thought it wouldn't be worth it, but then i saw the speed tiers list, and it would be nice to beat a fair chunk of them. i probably will. now i just need a jolly tyranitar. (im gonna take the first one i get, ceebs with IV's.)

my garchomp should have been jolly to, but adamant came first. too lazy i guess.

I find wings to be extremely useful to find your way out when you lost count on the EV.

Like if you are pretty sure you have 252, but then you can put more than 3 wings... it mean you messed up on counting.

Taunt is good for breaking walls in competitive battling so they have to attack you. Zoroark is a Sp. Atk heavy pokemon so I would honestly reccomend either a timid or modest nature since both cut attack, which is unneccesary. As far as the held item goes, I don't know but I use a dark pulse instead of night burst. All EVs should go to attack and speed with the remaining 4 in HP

They are useful to add specific EV's to areas, for example, if I wanted to train a Pokemon with 252 EV's in HP, I would need 25 HP Up's, but that only gives 250. Another 10 is too much, so just 2 easy to find and free wings are a better choice.

Off topic from quote, but this is my theory:
Breed/Revive(fossil) a Pokemon and do not touch it.
Instead of buying 25 Proteins/Irons/whatever, try to get 25 Battle Points
    Buy 25 of select item
Go to a bridge where wings are available, and grab 2 for a total of 252 EV's

Now, if I wanted it to be EV trained like this:
    252 Atk
    252 Def
    4 Spe

    I would need to have:
    50 Battle Points
    2 Muscle Wings
2 defense EV raising wings (I forgot the name, I'll edit later)
    4 Swift Wings

It isn't hard to do, just takes some time. Much more accurate and less confusing.

    BUT!

If your Pokemon has PKRS, that's when you have to manually EV train on wild Pokemon.

    Hope this helps anyone.

Wait wot. Only 10 vitamins per stat.

Get 10 vitamins of each stat boost you want (Carbos and something?), give them to the pokemon, give it pokerus, then battle 15 Lillipups with the Power Something on, and then take it off and get the 2EV's, then battle 15 Sewaddles/Venipedes and then take off the Power Item and battle one more. Then go ahead and battle one Basculin.

You have the method completely wrong.

    -_-

    That's new to me.

Alright, then just buy ten Vitamins to get 100 EV's, then go ahead and find 152 wings to get a nice 252.

    NYAH!

And let's all count the chances of finding 152 wings for a specific stat in 1 day, instead of taking a couple of minutes to EV train! Woot!

Collect wings while you wait for an egg to hatch. Especially if you are trying to get the correct nature for whatever pokemon. Even with the Everstone given to my adamant ditto, it took 3-4 tries to finally pop open an adamant Beldum and the whole time, I was walking back and forth looking for wings. I managed to pick up 25+ of each type of wing not including the pretty wing. That on top of the vitamins, and the power items, it makes EV training much less time consuming.

In the long run they add up, especially if you collect a lot of them.

They're a lot more useful for checking EVs and Little Cup where you can't really get a lot of EVs without going past Level 5.

They can be very helpful when EV training the extra 4 EVs if you are really lazy.

I just finished training a golurk so now I'm leveling it up.

152 will do. Just give the first 100 EVs in Vitamins.

Anyone saying Red is a good trainer please explain to me how he can have a Jolteon get OHKO'ed by a Thunderbolt. From a Rhyhorn.

I know it's starting to get OP but why Crunch? Salamence with no STAB?

And just to note, natures doesn't mean it has good IVs for that stat. It could have a +ATK nature but it's ATK IVs could still be crap.
