Told you all it wasn't going to happen. He's waiting until he's of age to carry Pokémon as any normal trainer would.

Aww... That's a shame. Max just looked like the kind of person who'd have a Ralts. This episode still looks like it was good, though.

People have said this about every pokemon that Max has had a little connection with (i.e. shroomish & poochyena). He'll get a pokemon when we least expect it... either that or not at all.

Everyone spazzes when they see a new Pokémon making a connection with a trainer. -_-; Everyone's gone nuts over saying "Oh! Max will get this Pokémon!" "This'll be the episode Ash's Pokémon evolves!" That sorta thing. These things happen when we least expect them to or we see a blatant spoiler in the next episode preview (ala Kimori evolving into Juputoru RIGHT IN FRONT OF US).

Either that or a rather obvious title, such as "Get snorunt!"...

Good, Max doesn't need a pokemon yet, he should wait until he is at least able to get a starter from a Prof. Anyway...this episode was basically a filler to make the Ralts appearance line, but it was one of those good fillers.

No, Masato didn't capture Ralts. However, neither of them really wanted to say goodbye, either. It ended up with Masato making a promise that when he becomes a trainer, he will come back for it.

-Masato definitely has some psychic affinity. Jiraachi isn't the only pokemon he could hear speaking when no one else could.

-They finally used the obvious way of seeing through one of Team Rocket's disguises:
*Satoshi points pokedex at apparent Kirlia*
    Dex: "Nyasu..."

-New animations for several attacks. The only one that looked outright wrong was Pin Missile.

-New lyrics for the ending. No change in animation.

What Pokemon did Team Rocket use in this episode, apart from the obvious Cacnea? *hopes for Doku-chan*

Anyway, Max's promise to Ralts is certianly interesting. I can just see loads of Max and Ralts Journey Fics being written though. XD

I KNEW there had to be something involving the Pokedex in this ep, seeing as how the fake Kirlia and Gardevoir were apparently the first ones the group saw...cool.

What I find even funnier is that during the entire run of the show, Pikachu has never been dexed once (at least as far as I know).

Back to the episode itself, it was excellent. It was one of those episodes that reminds me of how truly great the Pokemon anime can be, and it is one of the best episodes in AG. The animation was superb, we finally get the Ralts line in the anime, even though Kirlia and Gardevoir did next to nothing, and the fact that Max was the star is just icing on the cake. I find it funny that almost everyone wants Max and Brock off the show, yet when they get starring roles in episodes, almost everybody loves it.

Ash, May, and Brock vs. Jessie & James was one of the best battles in AG. Every single one of those attacks looked like they had some real power behind them, and it's nice to see them equally matched for once, considering we don't see Team Rocket as a threat nearly enough. I loved Combusken, Ludicolo, and Dustox getting spotlight, and the new animation on Cacnea's Pin Missle completely trumps the old one.

I guess I'm in the minority because I thought the vocal song fit that scene perfectly. 4KIDS even surprised me by not having any talking in the background while the song was playing. It was a very well-handled scene.

    9.5/10

My second favorite character in the series got a great chance to shine. I'm happy.

Another moment not to be missed:
    Kojirou sends out Sabonea...
    Sabonea does its usual turn-around-to-hug-Kojirou...
Kojirou ducks, and Sabonea goes flying past.

XD! Looks like James is finally learning to defend himself. Of course, he won't duck the next time he uses Cacnea.

Really, all of them? Awesome. I love it when Team Rocket uses all of their Pokemon. I remember watching the first Johto episode, and getting really excited when I saw that Arbok, Wezzing, Lickitung and Victreebel were all being used. ^_^ And Doku-chan gets some more air-time!

What a funny episode. Its too bad Max is gonna break his promise to Ralts that he will come back to get him. What was Snorunts role? Remember Snorunt was in the preview.

This episode looks incredible, great animation, possibly the most serious battle with Jessie and James ever (in terms of how well they did), and probably the best story centered around Max since the sixth movie. The only downside was how little we saw of Gardevoir, hopefully we'll see it in action more later. It did contribute to the very "mystical" feel their appearences in the episode were supposed to evoke.

    Now a few questions:

What huge attack did Ralts (I think it was Ralts) use that blew up all that dirt at the end of the episode to blast Jesise and Meowth off? I assume it was Psychic, but after the way they showed Rock Blast I'm not so sure.

Who were the "assassins" who tried to attack chibi Giovanni/Sakaki in Meowth's fantasy sequence? That is, did Meowth describe them as ganglords, assassins, common thugs etc.

So Ralts communicated telepathically with Max at certain points? In words or just images? One does wonder how normal that is. It's been said and shown through the series that a trainer with a psychic Pokemon tends to develop a mental link/psychic connection with it that helps them communicate, and psychics do seem to be the best at transforming their thoughts into words humans understand, but it's never made clear if most trainers actually hear a human voice from their Psychic Pokemon. This reminds me a bit of the strange psychic empathy Ash seemed to share with Larvitar, back when it communicated with him from within the egg.

What was Jessie so angry about after she and the others were covered in snow? What attack was that? Just a really big Icy Wind?

What attack did Dustox use to block the Fire Spin from Combusken? From the screenshots I couldn't tell if it was Gust or Psybeam, it almost looked like it could be Silver Wind from the angle fo the shot.

Was there any point to the strange-looking leaves blowing about at the end or were they just there for atmosphere? Usually those scenes require cherry blossoms or something pretty like that, not fern-like leaves. ^_^

Comment not question here. I must say using the pokedex to confirm the disguise was a stroke of genius, and perhaps the only time we've seen Meowth in the pokedex (there may have been another, I can't recall). Thus one wonders why Jessie and Meowth bothered to try the same costumes later on, though the other's reactions were hilarious. It would have been even funnier if he used it on Jessie!

It was clearly meant to be kept, however, it is likely we will never see it happen because I doubt the series will age Max to May's age (though it'd be great fi they did and aged everyone else that much). On the other hand by not showing when it would happen, they guarantee that the promise will be kept, especially if we never see Max again after Hoenn. Hope that made some sense. More detailed examination below:

Ash's "promises" were more like simple desires of what could happen unless something changes. Ash has been so far from Primeape for so long it really makes sense for him to have it stay with the trainer he left it to, although it should be noted there was no set timeframe for him getting it back. Anthony said "a while," which was quite indefinate, and Ash has never been close ot that place since then anyway. As for Pidgeot Ash made that "promise" assuming that he'd be in the orange Islands a very short time (he didn't even know about the league there), assuming that Pidgeot would not be needed by the flock anymore, and assuming that Ash would be able to find it in the time he had back in Pallet. Ash clearly did not forget Pidgeot in any way, don't you think there was a point to the whoel flashback sequence at Falkner's gym? Even then Ash still intends to keep his promise, provided he gets a chance to do so, as he says quite plainly "someday I'll go back and see my old my friend."

This Max and Ralts promise seems to me to be of a very different nature. It doesn't look to be a wishful thing or a simple hope. The fact that they both swore to reunite in the future adds to it further. To me the seriousness and emotion of the scene was showing more than just a simple promise, something more along the lines of a sworn oath. Plus, since Ralts is a Psychic type, can sense the presence of others, levitate to fly, Teleport considerable distances etc. it would certainly be easier for it to find Max in the future than for some other Pokemon.

Truly a great episode to wait for, I hope for a few more of this caliber before Hoenn ends. Not that I'm saying a lot of Hoenn episodes are bad, extremely few are, most are above average, but still episodes as good as this one are rare.

    Yes, it was Psychic.

    "Bad guys".

So Ralts communicated telepathically with Max at certain points? In words or just images? One does wonder how normal that is. At the beginning, Masato heard it saying "help me" when no one else heard anything at all. At the end, we (the audience) also hear it when it says "It's a promise. You will come back for me, right?"

What was Jessie so angry about after she and the others were covered in snow? What attack was that? Just a really big Icy Wind?
It was Icy Wind, and she was mad because Ralts was no longer there.

What attack did Dustox use to block the Fire Spin from Combusken? From the screenshots I couldn't tell if it was Gust or Psybeam, it almost looked like it could be Silver Wind from the angle fo the shot.
    Almost certainly Gust.

I'm quite certain that there was symbolism to the ginkgo leaves, but I'm not sure exatly what.

That episode was so sad and cute...How old is Max supposed to be? If he's not ten yet, how old is he? I wish he could have kept the Ralts. ^^
