Default 5th Gen Breeding/Egg Moves FAQ & Discussion Thread

As suggested, this thread is for discussion on breeding Pokemon in 5th gen and any new egg move changes/chains that now exist in this gen. Typically threads like this get made for a new gen/game, so here is this gen's edition.

Every so often I'll edit info in - I suppose the general aim is to have it look something like the 4th gen breeding/egg move faq thread here: http://www.serebiiforums.com/showthread.php?t=261577

The following comes from that thread as well, written by TotalPotato. It's 4th gen info though so it will need some changing up as some additions/changes to it may have been made to 5th gen.

Spoiler:- Temp initial breeding FAQ write-up from 4th gen's thread:

With that, post away! Once I make a number of posts that shall be edited later with egg move info!

I heard on Smogon that Dream World abilities can be passed on by breeding. Is this true?

I would like to show my 5th Generation Breeding Circle.

    http://img408.imageshack.us/i/5thgenbcproto1.jpg/

It is a prototype because I (or someone else) need to make extra sure that it is 100% accurate. I do think it is accurate though, but the way to check would be to list all of the interchanges between groups accordingly with the Pokemon that belong to such groups.

Also, I did a study of what breeding moves have to be taught to a male Pokemon by an obsolete TM in either the 3rd or 4th generation. Then, you have to transport it to the fifth generation and breed it with a female fifth generation Pokemon.

This list is incomplete, but here is what I found so far:
Spoiler:- I believe this list is complete now:

Also know that the Pokemon in the Ground breeding group are excluding because of trans-Smeargleing. I may work on the tutor moves from the past games as well.

Well, those are my current contributions.

Edit: I believe I have completed the obsolete TM breeding list. You can VM me in case I made mistakes.

    Hoenn has disappointed.

P.S. I get tired of complaints from great games.

It is. I've heard that the female is the one who passes down the ability, though. Which is going to make female starters even greater in demand then ever.

It appears that Shandera can only learn Heat Wave by breeding it with a male Slugma/Magcargo that learned it through a move tutor. What I find odd though is that Slugma/Magcargo have Heat Wave listed as an egg move, which I don't see how it can inherit since it is just in the Indeterminate breeding group. I guess this would confirm that some egg moves can only be obtained if you teach the male Pokemon a tutor move in the 4th generation. I may upgrade the list I was working on.

If you would like to help, you can send me a VM.

Why? Sounds great to me. That way Pokemon can have both a Dream ability and an egg move.

Will I have Zorua with Extrasensory If I put him with Nuzleaf? And Komatama with PsicoCut If I put him with Gallade?

Interestingly enough, it has been an egg move for Slugma since Ruby and Sapphire were released, but it was not given a way for it to learn the move until Platinum.

Because it takes out some of the fun of the dream world.

I don't play competetively by the way.

First one, yes, they are both in the Ground breeding group (not to be confused with the Ground type). The second one, no, Komatama is in the Humanshape group and Gallade is in the Indeterminate.

I noticed that it was an egg move, but like you said, there was no way it could get that move until a move tutor.

Even if you don't play competitively being able to breed pokemon with rare or useful abilities and egg moves (such as Shadow Tag Shanderra and Hydration Wish Vaporeon) for competitive players can help you fill up your pokedex, shiny dex, or event dex if you're more interested in collecting.

Thanks, then I will have to put Komatama with Medicham I guess.

IIRC, Slugma/Magcargo from Pokémon XD had it, just like Razor Wind Scyther.

I looked, and yes, you would be correct on that. Transferring from the GCN to the GBA to the DS and then transferring to the B/W games would seem like such a feat, but you can do that. Keep in mind, though, that in some of my list of how to get fifth gen Pokemon to learn obsolete TM egg moves, you can get a Pokemon that already knew the move to breed. For example, if you caught a Male Snorunt in XD, then it would already have Water Pulse and you can trasnsfer it to breed with any Pokemon in the "Ice Cream" family. I still counted it thought.

Speaking of counting stuff, I may add Pokemon in the Ground breeding group to my list that I mentioned, even though they can learn the moves by trans-Smeargleing. I may look at that.

I've heard that some of the breeding mechanics around the Everstone have changed. On Gamefaqs, people have said that the Nature transfer works when breeding foreign Pokemon, now. Does the Masuda Method still work?

Has breeding been improved or even altered in any way? All I've noticed is that the everstone seemed to have a higher success rate when passing natures, which could just be dumb luck.
