Practically everyone in the tourney cares about EVs. Most of the time if you do not EV train and you enter a tourney then you will be out first round.

I actually find it a good thing that it is Unova only because there is no Chomps. The main thing I would watch out for is a Whimsicott Musketeer Trio combo. And IDK if the tourney takes place during school hours or not.
