3rd Gen Monotype Challenge Thread!

Yeah I remember your Mono, Kind of the reason I might do one.

So my team will be:
- Venusaur
- Crobat
- Tentacruel
- Nidoking
- Venomoth
- ?

I'm not sure about Haunter in the last spot as I don't like having non-fully evolved Pokemon on my team. I was thinking maybe Ariados, Victreebel or Vileplume?

Surely you wouldn't want Venusaur AND Victreebel/Vileplume? Same typing, same purpose etc. and you can't even get Ariados on FR can you? Your only choices are probably: Haunter, Weezing and Muk.

I healed my Pokemon, then I entered Steven's room. He talked, then we began to battle. He sent out his Skarmory, and I used Cradily. I had Cradily attack with Rock Tomb, but it didn't do as much damage as I would have liked. I defeated Skarmory eventually, then I faced off against Aggron. I used Ludicolo's Surf attack against it, and Aggron fainted. I fought against Metagross after that, but even Breloom couldn't beat it. I had to use Sceptile instead, and I beat Metagross after hitting it with several Leaf Blade attacks. I defeated Steven's Armaldo with Ludicolo's Waterfall attack, then I faced off against Steven's Cradily. I used Cacturne against it, then I finished it off with Breloom's Brick Break. All that was left was Claydol, but Tropius defeated it with Solarbeam. My Pokemon were registered in the Hall of Fame, and the credits rolled.

Final team:

- Sceptile level 58
- Ludicolo level 55
- Breloom level 54
- Cacturne level 54
- Tropius level 53
- Cradily level 54

Grass Monotype Challenge Complete. I'll start a new one tomorrow though, on LeafGreen version.

Wow what a great combination Grass and Poison type is >.< Grass moves are Special and Poison are Physical. I might SR for a Naive nature for Bulbasaur?

I moved off into the desert and quickly set about capturing my 3 new team members: Trapinch, Baltoy and Sandshrew. Once they were all captured, I travelled around the region battling trainers I had skipped and various wild Pokemon to level up my party in preparation for my battle with Norman.

Training took a while, but I got everyone to level 30 and worked through Norman's gym quite easily, but after battling him, losing and doing a SR, I figured I needed a bit more firepower. So, I went back to the desert and elevated Numel 3 more levels so that he would evolve into Camerupt and headed right back.

First up, Spinda defeated my Trapinch, so I sent out Baltoy to finish the job that he had started. Sandslash went head to head with Vigoroth and came out victorious, before Marshtomp handled his Linoone. Finally, the dreaded Slaking reared its head. Camerupt started with Magnitude, but in 3 turns, Slaking had used Counter, loafed around and then Facade, taking out Camerupt. It was on low health though, which was enough for Graveler to finish it with 2 Magnitudes of her own, victory was mine!

Surf shall now be taught to Marshtomp so I can continue towards Fortree City and my next badge.

I might start my Mono tonight, Anyone know some movesets for my Pokemon? Bury in mind about the Physical/Special split in this Gen.

Also I think I might go for Haunter in my last spot.

I trained for a while on the sea routes battling all of the trainers before heading up towards Fortree City. The journey was long, but along the way, Marshtomp, Trapinch and Baltoy all evolved, so there is only one evolution left to go in my team.

When I finally got around to challenging Fortree gym, Claydol and Camerupt took care of most of the trainers with Sandstorm, AncientPower and Rock Slide. But soon, it was time to challenge Winona. Graveler took out Swablu and Tropius with 3 successive hits of Rollout, before Pelipper came in and put her down with one Water Gun. Swampert was up next, being one of only two Pokemon not weak to Water, and took it down with 2 Take Downs, before Camerupt handled Skarmory with 2 Embers. Altaria provided more of a challenge. It took out Vibrava with a critical hit on DragonBreath, and began to Dragon Dance while Claydol came out to have a go. It eventually took out Claydol as well, but it was now quite weakened - but also very boosted. That didn't stop Sandslash taking an Earthquake and getting in a Slash to kill it though.

Next update will be after Mossdeep.

So i finally decided on my type for my mono. Normal.

I started my journey in my home town and picked up Treeko while saving a screaming old man. No bid deal. Did a bunch of other boring stuff, and eventually made it to Rustboro where i met my father. Then a loser interuppted us and i helped him catch a ralts. I then went and caught my first team member. Taillow. It was female so i named it PLume. I then trained it 6 levels and went through Petalburg woods, did all that stuff.
Once i made it to the next city, i went through it to get my next team member. Whismur. I named him Stereo. I trained a little bit, then saved.

I have started my Poison Mono on FR now so here it goes.

So I did all the boring stuff at the start, Got my starter (Bulbasaur), Went and got the gift, Got the Pokedex, Town Map etc. I finally reached Viridian Forest. It was quite hard in there for my Bulbasaur but after defeating all the trainers in there (I think) I finally reached the end. I arrived at Pewter City and the first thing I did was restore my Bulba. I then went and challenged the gym... Well it wasn't much of a Challenge as Bulbasaur 1HKO'd all the Pokemon in the gym with Vine Whip. With my first badge I left the gym. I got the running shoes off the Prof's Aide (Yay I hate walking) and then I realised my Bulbasaur was not far from evolving so I battled the first trainer I saw on Route 3 and he evolved! I then saved and turned off.

Oh my goodness I am so sick of training. I beat the trainers between Mauville and Verdanturf before taking on Cycling Road. Once I had beaten those trainers I did a few rounds of the Trick House before heading back north of Mauville. I beat the trainers there, skipped the desert, and then beat the few trainers outside of the old lady's house. Then I was on Route 113 defeating ninjas and other trainers. I went back to the desert and defeated all of those trainers with Baltoy. Once I was finished I beat a lot of wild Pokemon because I wanted to be prepared for this gym battle with Norman. Once my team was Lv33-34, I headed to the Petalburg Gym.

I decided to let Gardevoir sweep all of the gym trainers because I was wanting to get through this part as quickly as I could. Once they were all defeated I started the battle with Norman. Wobbuffet went up against his first Slaking and managed to defeat Slaking with two Counters!! I couldn't believe Wobbuffet beat it. He sent out Vigoroth so I sent out Baltoy but the battle didn't last long due to a critical hit Faint Attack knocking out Baltoy. I switched back to Wobbuffet and took out Vigoroth with two Mirror Coats!! Lastly was Slaking vs Gardevoir. Gardevoir used Psychic twice and knocked out Slaking. Norman gave me my badge and I departed the gym.

I went to Wally's house and his dad gave me Surf. When I realized I couldn't use Surf I went and captured a Zigzagoon and taught it the move. I grabbed the Rare Candy, headed toward the beach, and saved.

Im going to start a mono challenge on Emerald with the bug type i will use dustox

I began surfing southward towards Dewford Town while fighting the few swimmers and Tentacool's to train my Psychic types. Just as I was about to reach Dewford Baltoy evolved into Claydol! I continued surfing east of Dewford and eventually arrived at the Abondoned Ship. I searched the ship and battled a few trainers as well. I found some key which I used to get Ice Beam. I then departed from the ship and continued surfing and battling until I reached Slateport City.

I went to the Trick House and solved the next challenge. Then I went to Mauville and talked with Wattson. He gave me a key so I could shut off a generator. So I headed to New Mauville and battled the Electric types with Claydol and managed to level it up a few times. I shut off the generator, left New Mauville, and returned to Wattson. He gave me the Thunderbolt TM and I decided to take a break.

Good luck with your challenge! I've always considered doing a Dark type challenge in Hoenn so I am curious how it will turn out. To answer your second question I did a Ghost monotype on Platinum about 2 months ago. I think it starts on the 4th page of the 4th Gen monotype thread. Might be the 5th page.


Small update. I ended up going back to New Mauville and trained Claydol up to Lv41. I threw Wobbuffet in the daycare and ended up leveling once while I was training Claydol. I switched out the Mach Bike I had for the Acro Bike and made my east of Mauville City where I surfed across a stretch of water. I saved in front of Gabby and Ty.

ok I stared my dark mono i'm at the first gym ill be updating when i beat a gym
my team is poochyena 17 so 1st up was geodude pooch took it out with 2 bites. Then it was Nosepass it took me 15 bites to kill I got the badge and pooch evolved

Sorry for not being active as I had no internet but this would have been a big update so I will just shorten this down.

I have just beat Lt. Surge and went through Diglett's Cave to get Flash. I then used Cut to the East of Cerulean City, Battled 1 trainer and then saved and turned off.

After beating Gabby and Ty I ran into Steven. After he left I defeated a few bird trainers and also a few women by the Berry Master's house. Solrock took the lead when I decided to head to the Mimic Circle and it also defeated all of the Bug trainers. I continued north and soon reached the Weather Institute. I used Gardevoir to battle all of the Magma grunts inside and I chose not to accept the Castform at the end. My rival appeared shortly after but Gardevoir swept her team so she gave me Fly and left. I soon entered Fortree City but I skipped it and went east and got the Devon Scope from Steven. I continued south and tried to skip every trainer as I went. I eventually reached my destination, the Safari Zone. I entered but then it hit me, I forgot to grab the Pokeblock case in Slateport City!

I headed south past Mt Pyre and then west and soon I was back in Mauville. I headed onto Cycling Road and eventually got to Slateport where I grabbed the Pokeblock case. I cycled back to Mauville, surfed east, and then made my north through route 119 until I was back in Fortree City. I ran all the way back to the Safari Zone and I was finally able to enter. I headed to the northeast corner and began running around looking for my next team member. Eventually I found what I was looking for, a Xatu! I saved after my time was up.

I've decided to start a Water Monotype Challenge on LeafGreen version. I started the game, and I chose my character. I went downstairs, and I talked to my mom. I then headed outside, and I explored Pallet Town a bit. I met Professor Oak eventually, and then I entered his lab. My rival was there, and Professor Oak asked us to help him complete the Pokedex and junk. I was allowed to chose one Pokemon, and I chose Squirtle. My rival chose Bulbasaur, then he challenged me to a battle as I was heading out. I barely managed to defeat his Bulbasaur, then I went back outside and I made my way north to Route 1. I trained Squirtle against the various wild Pokemon along the route, then I reached Viridian City. I healed Squirtle at the local Pokemon Center, then I saved the game.
