Alright, the gig was started. After blazing through the first portion of the game, I contacted a few "sources" in another dimension, and she hooked me up with an army of 6 eggs.

I started my adventure. My name was Bryan. And I loved the steel type.

That's when it happened. Magnemite hatched. Than Piplup. Than Drilbur. Than Riolu and Pawniard. And finally, Skarmory hatched. I had my team. My steel type team.

After reaching them all into adequate levels (thanks to the ever so kind Audino,) including evolutions for Piplup and even Riolu, I decided I'd take on the normal specialist Lenora. Her Pokemon were no match for Magnemite and Lucario, and with that I had won my badge.

Suddently, Plasma struck. They stole the valuable dragon skull. I hurried off, alongside the gym leader, Burgh, into the dark Pinwheel forest. Who exactly knew what would await me there, but I knew my team and I were ready for it.

ok, im doing a fighting run of the game, mostly because it looks difficult with a flying gym leader and a psychic and ghost E4, but i love challenges

now, i started off with tepig, because hes a free fighting type when he evolves. I did a little EV training so he can help me beat the first gym, which i did, without the free monkey that you get later on :P

So, i cough a timbur and a sawk, as those to are the fighting pokemon that i like. I also plan to get a mienshao and a scarfty before i finish the game. I will update reguarly about my progress with snapshots whenever i can :P

I chase the dream, not the competition.

I'd like to do this but I already beat the game and I don't want to restart it, would I still be able to? I could just train my team to a certain level and try to beat the Elite Four/Alder with it.

There aren't any rules against it. You wouldn't be the first person to do an Elite Four challenge.

As for myself, I'e made no progress. I got tired of waiting for posts so I can post progress, and now I'm side tracked by Platinum. I'll get around to doing more work on my mono soon.

    I'll do a Fighting-type Mono Run.

Don't know atm who my buddies will be, but I think Lucario will be in.
I'm gonna start right now, and I'll think about it.

I never thought I would say this, but Torch has been replaced. Recently I trained my Blaziken (Named Torch, of course) to Lvl. 100.
However, if you still want to hear Torch's story (With new parts to it!) PM me, and I will tell you. If you do, don't fear long posts, 'cause it will be one!

How about Rock? That seems like it would be a challenge.

Bug also seems interesting now with this gen offering stronger bugs.

It's time for a new Monotype challenge so instead of goofing off we might as well get started with this Dark type mono. This is on White version.

I started off with Tepig (Now neither Cheren or Bianca will have a Fighting type Pokemon) and beat both Bianca and Cheren. I did the rest of boring beginning stuff until I was on Route 1. I got some Pokeballs from Professor Juniper and then made my way to Accumula Town. After I did the Pokeball tutorial I made my way outside to find Team Plasma giving a speech. After that speech a man named N challenged me to a battle. I managed to defeat him and then I proceeded to Route 2 where my mom gave the Running Shoes. I ran around the grass until I found my first team member, a Purrloin. I captured it and trained it against wild Pokemon for awhile before battling the trainers on Route 2. I beat them all, including Bianca, and arrived in Striaton City where I took a break.

Both Sound Fun. I'll construct a team for each, Post them, and then decide from there.

When I arrived in Striaton City I headed straight to the Dreamyard to defeat the few trainers for experience. I grabbed the Pansage from the chick there and returned to the Pokemon Center to heal Purrloin. I headed back to Route 2 to train Purrloin some more before heading to the School to take on Cheren. Purrloin kept using Fury Swipes until his Oshawott and Purrloin were defeated. The gym was my next destination and after beating both gym trainers Purrloin learned Pursuit. I healed up and challenged Cress. Purrloin managed to knock out his Lillipup with one attack because Fury Swipes hit 5 times. I just spammed Pursuit on his Panpour until fainted. Easy win. I got the badge and exited the gym.

Fennel was waiting for me outside of the gym and she gave me the HM for Cut. So I headed to the Dreamyard and encountered a Munna being attacked by Team Plasma. I beat both grunts and Musharna appeared and scared the grunts away. Fennel thanked me and gave me a C Gear. I went back to Route 2 and captured a Patrat. Why? Because I am making a trade. I traded the Patrat for an egg and spent FOREVER running around waiting for the egg to hatch. Eventually it did hatch into a............Vullaby. My next order of business is to train the Vullaby before heading to Route 3.

Let me tell you something, Volcarona is a pain to train. You can Level Larvesta to LV59 to evolve but it'll be overleveled and wouldn't be much of a challenge. Personally, if it evolves later than 50, don't use it. Well you can but not level it up so much. Hydreigon is another example. Just stick with Zweilous and don't level grind it to Level 64 before facing N or it won't be much of a challenge. Monotype Challenges isn't about just using 1 type of Pokemon, it's well as it is called: A Challenge, so you shouldn't level grind too much.
Just something to keep in mind. Larvesta is a good Pokemon, I know from experience it is. I even used one in my Fire Monotype Challenge which I recently got around to complete it.

Also, if you can, I recommend having at least half your team to have Unova region Pokemon, not just having most of them from trades. It's fine and all but I feel that Monotype Challenges in Black and White should have at least 3 native Pokemon if possible.
Like for example, on that Rock team of yours, you could have Gigalith, Crustle and either Carracosta or Archeops. If you're going to have Aerodactyl, you might as well use Carracosta. And for your Bug Team, you could have Crustle and Volcarona which you already have and also Galvantula. Just a suggestion.

Although after you've beaten the main storyline, you can change around your team for the Elite Four Round 2 if you need too like I did. In my Fire Monotype Challenge, I had Emboar, Darmanitan, Houndoom, Vulpix, Larvesta and Blaziken when I beat Ghetsis (Don't ask about the Vulpix lol) and when I faced Cynthia, the Elite Four the 2nd time and finally Alder, I evolved Larvesta and Vulpix and replaced Emboar and Blaziken for Arcanine and Rotom-H.

    Main storyline team:
    Emboar
    Houndoom
    Darmanitan
    Blaziken
    Larvesta
    Vulpix

    Final Team:
    Ninetales
    Houndoom
    Darmanitan
    Volcarona
    Arcanine
    Rotom-H

Oh man...so satisfying to beat this thing after it took out the other 5 Pokemon of my team.

I was thinking of doing a monotype on Black, but I haven't finished Black (or White, for that matter) yet (got to 4th gym once), so I don't know what type is a challenge, but still fun and something that gives me some choice.

So I haven't played the 5th gen yet, so there are probably a lot of things I don't know yet, what advice could you give me about a monotype on Black?

If you want a challenge, Grass is an interesting one in that there's a lot of Grass types available and it's challenging enough as a type against they gyms.

Otherwise, Ground seems to be a pretty decent monotype as well (Golurk can fly and you can surf with Stunfisk/Seismitoad). There's some interesting type combos with the Ground type in this gen.

Flying is another decent challenge, you can have Archeaops and Sigilyph as an offensive powerhouse while Swanna can fill your Surf/Fly needs. Mandibuzz would also be a good wall and you can use Emolga as well for something different.

Looks like you can trade though so Fighting is also an interesting one (maybe easy?) since lots of Fighting types available early. Bug would be interesting too with the trade evolutions, and the Bugs are more capable this gen.

I heard that Bug was pretty powerful this gen, but I think I'll go for Flying... Probably because it is one of my favorite types. Grass is also pretty cool though... I think I'll stick to Flying.

Now checking what Flying options I have...

    Thanks a lot!
