Alright, since this thread is getting deadish, and I finished my Emerald Scramble
I am going to do this challenge on Pokemon Emerald

However, the theme is that pokemon assigned must be related to medicines.

And instead of getting all plants and bugs type, folklore medicine can also work.
(I can still take 1 bug and 1 grass, just not more than 2 pokes of grass or bug type)
    Go!

    *preferably no starters.

EDIT: might as well give me a brief explanation why the pokemon somehow relates to medicine, lol.

Kacho, take an Alakazam named Osler. It must know recover, and you must use a potion on every member of your team twice with Osler in battle.

Interesting, I am now on Wikipedia reading about William Osler and how he resembles Alakazam

on a side, note, I can't trade, Kadabra will do?

    EDIT:
So like, since Osler has a lot of contribution to cardiology, and alakazam has a great brain, and that cardiology and neurology are considered the top of medical science, therefore, alakazam relates by being the "best" or something? :P

Yup. I picked Alakazam because Osler was also a professor. Seemed fitting.

    please also explain this part.
    is this an evolution restriction?
or do I have to at some point use potion twice on every member of my team before I can let kadabra use recover? or i have to do this before it can even use a move?

Nah, it's not an evolution restriction. It can be done whenever. While Kadabra is in battle, you just have to use 2 potions on every other member of your team. You can do it as soon or as late as you want, just do it before the end of the challenge.

    I see.
Does Kadabra has to last through the whole battle waiting for everyone to get healed twice, or it is accumulated?

It is also quite hard to come up with a suitable Pokemon for your theme.

Anyway Kacho, take a Barboach... because extracts are taken from certain fishes and used in medicines, if that is acceptable. No restrictions.
We both break free if we make it on top
If one should fall we both will drop

We move together from here on out

LOL, that is kind of the whole point, a bit tricky theme.

If you're talking about "fish oil", I can switch to Sharpedo instead, since sharks are known for their higher omega-3 fatty acids.

That okay with you? no restriction? at least one, LOL. either evo or move.

I get it. Take the Sharpedo instead. As for a restriction, it can only evolve from Carvanha after it had battled a Fisherman, if that is okay.

Kacho, take a seviper, for antivenin. It cannot use poison attacks against an opponent that is already poisoned.

Summary so far for my "medicine" challenge:

"Osler"- Kadabra, must have accumulated total usage of 2 potions on each member of the team by the end of challenge is over
"Fish Oil"- Sharpedo, evolve from Carvanha after soloing a Fisherman
"Antivenin"- Seviper, cannot use poison attack on an opponent that is poisoned. (I guess meaning, I can poison them first, then hit with other attacks.)

you guys can give me another poke, or somebody else

Kacho, I'm probably way off the mark with this, but take a Numel. I saw something about how Camel milk was being used as medicine to help with Autism, Diabetes, etc. I'm not even sure if it is legit or not. If you accept the Numel then it cannot be used in gym battles until it evolves.

    I'll accept that Numel/Camel Milk.
When you say gym battles, do you mean the gym leader's battle, or all trainers in the gym's battle?
Also, can I use it on trainers inside the gym?

Sorry about not being specific enough Kacho, I meant it cannot be used in Gym Leader battles until it evolves. It can battle against the regular trainers in the gym.

Kacho, does Solrock work? The sun has some medicinal uses.

    If so, no restrictions.

The sun can also cause disease with too much exposure, lol.

How about an Electrode? Some electrodes are used in medical purposes, especially for stuff like defibrillators.

If you choose Electrode, you must use a revive on one of your Pokemon while Electrode is out in a double battle.

    Electrode/Voltorb, sure.
That means I must purposely faint a pokemon and get into a double battle, oh cool.

    One more from other people?

Kacho, for your last Pokemon, how about a Vileplume? Referring to Aromatherapy, if that is acceptable as a kind of medicine. As for a restriction, it can evolve freely but must know the move Aromatherapy (which it learns at level 1, and has to get through the move relearner).

    I'll get started, woot.
Winter or someone else, give me at least one evo restriction, either from oddish to gloom or gloom to vileplume, heh.

"EKG"- Electrode- must use revive on one pokemon while in a double battle
"Fragrant"- Vileplume- must have the move Aromatherapy, Oddish to Gloom- must defeat 15 Pokemon (wild or trained) in a row without going to a Pokemon centre, evolve to Vileplum was soon as you find a leaf stone.

I'm looking for an interesting challenge to try for my next Emerald run. Nuzlocke, scramble, NFE run, one Pokemon run, and speedrun are all out: the first two I've tried and abandoned my runs, the third I've recently done, and the fourth and fifth just doesn't appeal.

So I've got four ideas. Monotype might be good, I've done a couple on original Red but none on more recent games.

No shopping is nice and simple. I've done it in other RPGs, but not in Pokemon. No item usage bar Poke Balls could also work.

Picking my Pokemon by random numbers is one I've done before and might be nice to try again. Sorta like a scramble I guess, but without the extra restrictions the keeping track of turned me off the last scramble I did.

"Overlooked" Pokemon is also one I've tried before, where the idea is to use the Pokemon that people don't tend to use in-game. Not sure for Emerald which they'd be likely to be though.

    Thoughts/ideas?
