Hi everyone, i had rough streak and lot of work in real life lately not leaving me as much free time to be more active, but i want to thank you all for keeping this place alive, cheerful and active.
About whole question of Misty prospect of ever coming back in pokemon series again, as long there are peopole which support Misty character. Care about her, spread support and appreciation through talks, fanarts, stories and demand for her return than yes ill say chances that eventually people love and support find way to writers ears is there.
Chance may not be big, but as more people care and like some character increases opportunity for writers to gain insight in what audience wants, how they feel about current series formula and what proven to be popular and successful before.
Igniting within staff which works for pokemon anime desire to invest more in those like Misty which proven to posess required appeal and charisma to hook more people into show, increase ratings, sales because obviously regained interest in anime can very likely lead to interest in new games Nintenpo comes up with as well. As result making people respect and appreciate writers work all that more spreading love and positive criticism through word of mouth to their acquintances and friends and so on, thus effectively creating chain message which as time wents on reaches more and more potential customers. Increasing franchise popularity.
Its no secret how whole pokemon franchide is lately trying to reach toward oldr audience and large amount of fans which left show and franchise during original series and after Johto ended viewing disband of original trio, but most importantly Misty departure as horrible and reckless mistake undermining series credibility, charm and identity those three produced becoming like synonim for series back in day.
This can be noticed in dub company for pokemon TPCI using proven and popular slogans from 4kids era such as "Gotta Catch em All", reusing lyrics from pokerap, using original music from pokemon theme in XY trailers etc.
Or throwbacks to gen 1 through new games like Snorlax blocking road, presence of Kanto starters and whole message of XY games being about bonding and friendship paying attention a lot more toward previous generations and older pokemon than it was case before.
Followed by Charizard rejoining Ash through whole Decolora giving rich flashback of his young days , pokemon Origins which were mainly created for older fans to try to attract them back into franchise,
Or all those throwbacks to Muk, Butterfree or Primeape, ending which was fanservice on steroids including all important ex main companions, current ones and rivals which mattered something in Best Wishes series.
Giving slight ray of hope how producers and those in charge will realize how path toward stable, continuity based series filled with exciting twists to storyline and consistent following which builds on itself making it authentic and understandable doesn't lies in sweeping away past, roots on which show was built on and characters which helped build structure of tale you wished to tell leaving impact on it.
But in keeping ties to past, those which helped move things forward like Misty and expand on their own dreams, desires and various sides of personality giving better sense of world building. Anime which provides insight in past events and impacts which molded current protagonists like Ash and show history. Making it feel like you have story which is going somewhere, how journey strong chemistry and friendship between characters, their dreams and all hard work they invested in accomplishing their aims was worth it, paying of in end.
Along with lifting up character interactions and show atmosphere. Something Misty is definitely capable of producing with her strong and independent character always bringing lot of identity, sarcasm, flare and energy in cast thanks to various antics, temperament outbursts. caring side and lively passion for various interests and dreams she pursued.
Misty Japanese voice actor Mayumi IIzuka doesn't represent problem either because she clearly would like to see her return voicing character again. As evidenced through narration of Misty showing desire to see Ash again when appearing as guest in pokemon Team Rocket radio show, expressing disappointment and sadness last year in regard to release of pokemon Origins over Misty future and her own engagement in pokemon series explaining why she asked people not to forget Misty. Not liking direction in which things are unfolding out. Only being commendable on her part revealing great quality she has as voice actor being passionate, caring and attavhed to character she voiced for years knowing how to capture Misty flare, emotion, sarcasm and confidence in organic, faithful to character way.
Mayumi Iizuka is also constantly posting pictures and attending pokemon related things(most recent thing she got involved was hosting some show discussing pokemon with gamefereak and pokegames director Junichi Masuda).
Another mitigating circumstance which puts Misty in somewhat favorable position was abrupt way under which Misty left pokemon series leaving her career of becoming water master, various fears and unresolved issues which followed character, desire to explore and learn as much as she can about water pokemon and world unfinished and unexplored.
Followed with chronicles which while gave Misty some great growth still left main plots which formed character at standstill hanging in air wide open(since she never changed her dreams taking over gym out of necessity and sisters incompetence expressing desire to travel again) leaving future and direction under which story will go for her uncleared.
Giving writers liberty to take Misty character in any direction and do sequel at any point with no coinstraints . Given how many things about her future plans, water master dream, admiration she holds for E4 and Lorelei gives easy excuse to take her forward and do continuation of story in vain of advancing her own dreams going on bigger, more demanding tasks.
Following footsteps of many other gym leaders which left their post to advance their dreams wanting to become something more building on skills and gaining more experience through travels, tournaments with high competition and various unorthodox strategies they met on their quests allowing to evolve and go on higher position as trainers.
Wallace, Koga, Cilan, Brock etc are couple examples. Candice too since she promised her friend Zoey how she will leave gym some day and become champion indicating how she will go on journey.
Going in correlation with game canon actually too since Misty counterpart in Gold, Silver expressed desire to leave gym and travel meeting stronger trainers and improving herself as trainer which judging by viewing Lorelei as idol implies wanting to become something more than leader., Which happened when leaving gym to enter World Cup in way stating how she plants to improve and defeat strong trainers.
So guys while it may not mean much, i hope and would like to believe how Misty iconic status, huge popularity and positive impact she left on pokemon series initial success helping to spread its success globally wont remain forgotten. With writers eventually paying respect and acknowledge existence of wonderful character also known as "tomboyish mermaid" bringing her back, have her play some relevant role in series again and acknowledge character existence.
Because at end of the day hope is the only thing which is left for Misty fans, walking together toward brighter and more amicable future. Whenever that day will hopefully happen.

Misty was such an interesting character, one of my favorites and I miss her so much.
Well, he did say she'd appear, but I don't know if he meant in the flesh though. Her cameo appearance was the lure that was shown in D/P and she appeared twice in B/W, one in a flashback and another one in Ash's thoughts. Still hoping for that in the flesh appearance though.
Regarding interview you guys are mentioning and statement of Misty continuing to make cameo appearances in future, i believe this is what your looking for:
From interview with Masamitsu Hidaka(worked as director for pokemon series up to Battle Frontier, afterwards stepped out and continued to work as storyboard artist) on Pokebeach from 2008:
Followed with his previous response:What about the main cast on the show? Since he had talked about how they like to “switch them up,” I explained to him that many fans want Ash, Misty, and Brock reunited again together. But, he reaffirmed what he said in the previous interview and said it wasn’t going to happen. I asked him what he meant in the previous interview about Pokemon Contests, and he said he just meant that characters like May have come back for a few episodes in Pokemon Contests, so Misty could come back too. He said, however, that Contests don’t appear to be her thing, so if she were to come back, it would probably be to join Ash in a battle or to just meet them somewhere.
In other words he noted as possibility that Misty has in flesh appearance again like May did coming either for tournament, to join Ash in battle or just meet him and companions somewhere on road. But that was stated back in 2008 and now 6 years later nothing came out iof it.If she is to ever return to the show, it will only be in a minor role as something like as a rival for a tournament, similar to May returning for a few Diamond and Pearl episodes.
Bear in mind though how mr. Hidaka by time he gave interview was no longer in contact with writers like he used to be due to not being involved in big decisions as storyboard artist anymore. Thus not being familiar with their plans nor upcoming decisions compared to past. Fact how he didn't even knew about pokemon Platinum coming out around that time not knowing how to respond to fan inquiry, while everyone on online pokesites were already long familiarized with it only further reinforces this conjecture.
Leading to reasonable conclusion how things mr. Hidaka mentioned in interview shouldn't be taken as 100% true. Which can work both in Misty favor(in light of despite what he said Misty still having chance that writers change their mind and bring her for at least semi permanent role again like it was case with Charizard).
But this can also work against Misty unfortunately with his words not guaranteeing that Misty will even receive appearance for few episodes.
Otherwise how to explain writers ignoring to use her for past 8 years?
Its not like writers didn't had several opportunities, very plausible ones to bring Misty back at very least for few episodes to enrich on show atmosphere through her vibrant, enjoyable personality making people happy, provide update, gain more growth and help influence one of show plots which were running at that time.
Coming to catch rare and new water pokemon learning new things(like they did with Clair in Unova)was one of ways to bring Misty back in Sinnoh or Unova,. There is whole World tournament from BW2 games which was one of best and most prominennt ways to reintroduce Misty again since she could both help advertize it due to being present in new games, was more than qualified to enter as gym leader and trainer. Along with this being perfect way to push her story forward since entering tournaments with strong competition and making name for yourself is one of things crucial in order to become high class water expert, water pokemon master.
In as much giving her opportunity to battle trainers of higher calliber, meet champions and specialist she would never had chance to see before and sharp skills through intense battles greatly advancing her water master dream. Providing more experience and challenge than its case at gym rotting currently with her story and dreams going nowhere, aka stagnation.
They could have Misty play role with Dawn getting Togekiss since she posessed Togepi, Togetic having most knowledge in its raising than any other main character. Have her appear when Ash returned at Pallet two times in a row(after DP and now after BW), but once again writers completely left her out.
I cannot even stress out enough how in new XY series there exists several very valid reasons to bring Misty back. At least for arc or something. There is fact of Kalos introducing E4 member of water types Siebald from who Misty could learn a lot about bonding with water pokemon on closer level increasing her skills and how to overcome their weakness. E4 are best mono trainers in world, Misty dream is to become best water trainer in world idolizing Lorelei wanting to become strong like her. Since E4 are labeled as type masters in game and Misty wants to become water master its not hard to find connection and why she would be extatic to meet him.
There is fact of Misty posessing Gyarados which can mega evolve giving her marketing value to both help promote games and be involved in relevant plot which in Kalos revolves around mega evolutions and Team Flare which wants to control therm for wrong purposes. Making massive step forward in her knowledge as water trainer by achieving close level of understanding unlocking its true, full strength play. Which once again is expected from someone who strives to become master.
She can return for water based tournament like Whirl Cup was showcasing her new skills and how much she improved, advance her dreams, test out her strength possibly against Ash like in good old days reviving that competitive fire and rivalry between them which was always present in wanting to prove each other to be better. Along with capturing new pokemon and guess what promoting fairy type through Azurill line.
Its still hard to believe that Misty's last in flesh return was in 2005(2006 if you count Mastermind special, but im referring to regular main anime). And writers left her out for each and every opportunity like she is nobody and never existed.
Thats definitely sad and discouraging, to think that once such important character who is original female heroine for pokemon series, part of most iconic and recognizable cast in world(original trio) which paved way for future generations to come and allowed that pokemon anime becomes hit, incredibly popular worldwide is discarded and abandoned like last trash. Like Misty never existed or played important role in pokemon series, like she never left any influence on Ash, other characters and pokemon storyline.
Like she doesn't have her own dreams, goals of becoming master of water types, live up to idol Lorelei, learn and catch as many water pokenon she can realizing how to bring their true strength on surface becoming like one when battling together, insecurities and flaws which deserve to be explored and tied up instead of leaving everything so abruptly cut and unfinished like all that hard work, learning on mistakes and growth was for nothing never leading her nowhere.
Bugphobia, parents which abandoned her and sisters, unsolved disputes with sisters or lack of resolution in what way and how she can come closer toward her ultimate aims with whole future and what she intends to do with her life etc. come to mind on first hand.
Like she doesn't have many people which like this character and support wanting that at least from time to time her existence is acknowledged, her story and progress receive update taking her somewhere, to maintain contact with Ash, Brock and other friends making it seem like their close bond and friendship wasn't forgotten about and pointless. Along with enjoying in Misty outspoken and feisty attitude mixed with caring, assertive side, which brought humor and tension within group being known for charismatic and lively interaction she brought.
Misty was truly unique and highly rich in personality character, she was symbol of hard work and determination, didn't let others to put her down knowing how to stand up for herself with hotheaded, sarcastic and full of passionate, curious spirit while maintaining her feminine, romantic side . Making her completete, highly relatable and with lot of depth character not deserving to end up forgotten like this.
Ill just say this: Pokemon show is dependant on his viewers, and if writers continue to ignore what makes people disappointed and frustrated, what is reason behind continuous drop in popularity with new generations of kids simply failing to fill up places of older fan which are giving up with show, than the ratings for this anime would continue to drop until they reach the point of no return, which would result in this show being cancelled.
It is obvious that pokemon directors and writers are using wrong approach of burying past, disrespecting history and pretending like it never happened, and whole strategy lately of referencing generation 1 massively through new games and show(Charizard return in main cast for BW,reuse of 4kids slogans, return of Kanto starters as mentioned before makes it obvious) is attempt to retrieve some of older fandom back.
Yet writers and producers of this show dont seem to understand how reusing Misty and making her play relevant role in anime again is something which huge number of people all around the world would like to see happen??
Guaranteeing massive hype, increase in people inzerest and excitement bringing fresh and unpredictable twist to pokemon series making it more substantial, of stronger quality thanks to paying respect to continuity and past . Along with promoting diversity and strength in characterization, anime plots and sense of world building making it closer and more interactive.
Hopefully new director(i believe he is called Tetsuo Yajima) and writers themselves will recognize appeal and potential Misty as character has, loyal and huge following and how her presence could bring benefit to storyline advancing it forward while gaining herself something from it, increase entertainment value along with attracting more people back bringing boost to ratings.

^Interesting. I enjoyed reading your elaboration on Misty and her goal and potential ways she can be in the show. I tried to remain placid on Misty's next appearance but it hasn't been working out.
I can totally understand being a coordinator was more of a May thing rather than Misty's. She's (intentionally) a trainer anyways. However, I don't understand why she wasn't put into the show and why they changed their mind's so fast. I feel like that's a big mistake.
However, there are so many water themes (especially in AG) that makes me irritated because it basically was screaming out MISTY. There wasn't many water related stuff in OS COMPARED to Hoenn.
Another thing is Misty's sisters. What I don't understand is how poorly that part was written out as. For one thing, Misty was only supposed to be held hostage at the gym was because her sisters weren't there and they didn't want to risk the Cerulean City Gym to be shut down. They came back. Yes, I know Misty's sisters didn't want her to leave and Misty couldn't just let her sisters give out badges for free but take a look here. The three sisters had the gym to their selves in OS and had no problem concerning Misty, so why do they NEED Misty all the sudden now? Doesn't make any sense.
This is something I hate about the writers. They always tend to write something in, or something new that just rises questions and curiosity it's serious. Furthermore, they should probably bring Misty back anyways. It doesn't even make sense to just get rid of someone with such an intriguing background and story.
Hey guys mind if I join this club?
So here's a question I wanna throw around:
What was your personal favorite Misty episode in the anime?
Mine would probably be the Princess vs. Princess from the Original Series.
I would love to see Misty with an all water starter team, now the only time where that's possible. I mean yeah technically it would be possible in gen 7 but then there would be an odd one out so it doesn't quite have the same elegance to it.
To PokémonItch: Of course you can join. Welcome to Misty club and enjoy in your stay.
Btw excellent choice, because i liked "Princess vs Princess" episode too. It was hilarious to watch Misty and Jessie competing against each other, show more of her feminine side looking very pretty in wearing that kimono. As well sharing more of her sad past and how she was treated as outcast by her sisters always getting ruptured dolls and left overs demeaning her.
Making viewer sympathy with character and understanding why it was so important for her to win something on her own, not necessarily because of dolls themselves. But in reasurring and proving to herself how she can do something on her own proving to others that she isn't useless. Pressure and insecurity which followed her for very long time through OS whenever she was understimated by others or her older siblings were brought up.
Not to mention battles were very interesting too finding it cute how Pikachu and rest of Ash, Brock pokemon decided to be loyal to her effectively using other pokemon types despite specializing in water.
Female with Psyduck was best comedy moment and his clueless face when Lickitung tried to disable him with lick.
What was your personal favorite Misty episode in the anime?
I have several actually so ill list few of my favorites among them.
"Tentacool and Tentacruel": most people never bring this episode up but i really liked whole setting and importance Misty played in there. How she blamed herself over not understanding what Horsea tried to tell her feeling ashamed of having nerve to call herself water expert. Revealing how she still has long way to go in reading and understanding feelings of water pokemon. Culmination happened when she climbed on wrecked building trying to gather giant Tentacruel attention and reach to its heart through inspired speach. With no pokemon or any protection risking everything which was pretty admiring and epic.
She also managed to catch Horsea being overall excellent episode focused on Misty love for water pokemon and respect she holds for them.
"Stun Spore Detour": this one was simply classic. It was endearing to see more of softer, nurturing side of Misty coming on surface taking great deal of concern and kindness for her sick friends Tracey and Ash in healing them from Vileplume spores.
You could see how aside of Misty temperamental and stubborn nature not letting others to put her down. Misty also has good sincere heart showing capability of being highly compassionate and dedicated toward people she likes and cares about. This can be especially noticed in unselfishness and determination to do anything she can to get help in time not falling down for James and Meowth tricks with baskets full of presents or pretty dresses resisting to temptations. Revealing how valuable of a friend she is and highly resourceful in unexpected situations reacting quickly and in collected way not letting that panic consumes her.
"Perfect Match": It was most important battle Misty had against Ash at that point. She was clearly nervous and at first shocked when finding out how Ash will be her opponent in quarterfinals with competitive spark and friction being present during pretty much whole competition and prior to that. In bragging themselves to be better trainer than other bickering over who will obtain title Alpha Omega of water pokemon with lot of tension being involved there.
It also revealed how much certain friendly rivalry and friendship between her and Ash evolved with lot of admiration and respect showing to be present decding to give all they had in that match. As well enjoyable to see Misty being able to knock down Totodile with Poliwhirl with her training and work on improving as trainer paying of, Whole battle was very close in end taking advantage of embarassing situation Psyduck afforded in popping out of ball in middle of battle succeeding in winning.
Afterwards despite standing against one of strongest water specialist in that event Trinity Misty holded her ground actually pretty well. In knocking down Gyarados and not falling without fight against Chinchau.
This episode had another noble purpose in building on Misty character development of realizing after feeling let down over defeat how she still has long way to go before she becomes renowned and top class water expert reinforcing even further her love for water pokremon and desire to become water pokemon master one day. Another reason i liked this episode was because it directly focused on Misty water master career diving deeper into it through what propf. Elm, and sea priest Maya elaborated. In prestige water tournaments and events where you measure your strength against other experts testing your adaptibility and knowledge of water pokemon utilization serving as tasks required to be overcomed in order to come closer toward such title.
Shame we never got to see further expansion on this.
Cerulean Blues: Because it showed how far Misty came since early days having to directly confront and overcome one of her biggest fears Gyarados and pass inspection to save gym from being closed down. Which was only testament to her strength and independence as character. Whole episode was built with lot of suspension and emotion showing how unselfish and compassionate Misty is as person even if it comes at cost of risking her own life, while brimming with assertive and spunky demeanor not letting brother trio to outplay and demean her .
Especially heart moving and touching moment was when she risked her life to protect Gyarados from Tentacruel taking harsh beating from poison sting and tackles almost drowning and prove herself to inspector Joy being important character development for her. Not to mention that scene in mermaid costume swimming with Dewgong, Starmie and rest of pokemon trying to calm down Gyarados was nice throwback to episode "Misty Mermaid" looking absolutely gorgeous with long hair down. Reflecting perfectly her beauty.
Just writing this made me remember why Misty is my favorite character in this show. She was always veiled with certain mystery in her thoughts, dreams and various desires with many things being untold and unresolved about past, her future and career of becoming best.
Misty is such strong female character which knew how to keep everything on hold injecting soul, lot of emotion, courage and fiery atmosphere in show. She was capable of extracting all kind of personality traits and reactions from other characters making them more active through her presence. Thanks to her multisided personality being spirited and hotheaded, assertive not backing down to challenge dealing with issues on her own, witty coming up with lot of sarcastic remark and comedy outbursts, sweet and romantic liking to dream with added dose of shy and insecure demeanor hiding behind that rough and strongwilled side of hers.
Her complexity and personality depth guaranteed that things are never stale or stagnate when she was involved within action be it in anime focusing on her, or others with her adventurous nature influencing plot pushing things forward.
Writers should bring her back without any doubt being mistake to get rid of such fluid and full of potential character like Misty was. Never being given chance to get used to full potential.

Since yesterday was the anniversary of the Pokemon games, this was Misty's first debut. (Game)
I remember my first impression on her is she looked very angry xD but I saw that she was water type and I love that.
Even though the anime isn't like the games, they did complement Misty game and anime misty accurately, at least partially.
Title "tomboyish mermaid" suits Misty character for a reason, Being both tough, fiery individual, but also showing she can be girly, feminine and very compassionate when she wants.
Here is hoping that at very least Ash uses her special fishing rule in upcoming Magicarp episode serving as nice homage to character existence and importance she had for pokemon series. Though seeing her in person featuring mega Gyarados for example and meeting up with Ash and co would be infinitely more satisfying and amazing to get. One of many valid excuses for writers to bring her back in Kalos and use productively while giving some further development. Oh well.
