I just watched a Hong Kong movie Wu Xia (Swordman in English). Its only 3 fight scene which I can deal with. The ending is kind of rush a bit.

    The Help
I had been meaning to watch it a while and I finally did. It was better than I thought it was going to be. It had a couple sad parts and a few funny parts. The acting was very good.

In theaters? Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol. I felt it was really well done. Not sure how it stacks up against the others (have 1,2, and 3 on DVD but haven't watched any of them yet except for 3), but I thought that the game was well-paced, and really funny! (go **** yourself, Simon Pegg! Stop being so funny and making the whole audience cry with laughter!!)
As for the last DVD/Bluray that I've watched... It's Star Wars Episode 1 The Phantom Menace on Bluray. I've already watched all 6 movies, one movie per day, when the Bluray 9-disc set came out, but with SW Ep 1: TPM 3D coming out soon, I felt a bit nostalgic and wanted to watch Ep 1 again (from what I can remember, it was the second movie I've ever watched in the theaters with my dad, the first and third being Zorro and Xmen 1, respectively).

Anyways, anyone know any good movie coming out from mid-February to the day The Avengers come out? Other than Ghost Rider, there doesn't seem to be any that I'm interested in. *sigh* With 4 months left until the Avengers finally Assemble on the big screen, it's seemly taking forever now. That last few months/weeks of an anticipated movie/video-game are always the most grueling.

    Let Me In

I had heard about this movie, but I never got around to watching it. But I can blame Twilight for that. Romantic Vampire movies are sort of dead now so I didn't really want to be bothered with it. But since nothing else was on I decided to check it out. And all I can say is:

    DAMN!

I mean seriously, this has to probably be the best Horror movie within the last 20 years. Everything about this film is beautiful. The characters, the imagery, the writing. All of it was amazing.

But what really sells it is the 2 main leads, Owen and Abby. I mean, these two make Edward and Bella look like even more trash than usual. This is how you ****ing make that type of relationship. Not some retard, glamorized, gross fanfic tripe. These two legitimately felt like actual people instead of hollow shells. From the moment Owen meets Abby, you see that type of connection and think " Holy **** this movie is gonna be good". Or at least that's what I thought. They just have this amazing chemistry when they are together and it really makes the movie shine. And the movie does a great job of focusing on the two, while at the same time establishing a world around them so it doesn't get boring.

Not to mention Owen's reaction to Abby being a vampire. That's how you do it. His first thought isn't "Dude, I wanna **** this vampire" it's more like "Holy ****, I'm gonna die". His is actually scared of her at some times, but because of their established relationship, he can look past it. The idea of them being together is still very farfetched, but whereas Bella and Edward feel like the ramblings of some 15 year old girls fanfic, these two being together actually feels very plausible. Their relationship is downright beautiful.

It also really goes back to vampire lore, which is a huge plus for me. No sparkling faeries and crap like that. Abby doesn't sparkle like a diamond if she goes out in the sun, she bursts into flames. She doesn't hunt animals because she is afraid of hurting humans, she sucks the blood out of people like a real vampire should. The subtle things are cool too, like how she doesn't get cold despite walking barefoot in snow, or how she can be killed if she isn't invited into your home verbally. A very nice touch.

It's also a horror movie that doesn't rely on gallons of blood and gore, and considering how its a vampire movie, it's really a testament to how much restraint they have. The little that the do use gets the job done nicely. They limit the amount of "jump scares" and the ones they do have are amazing. Most movies today try to get you with loads of them, but this one knows when and where to use them and because of that, it makes the movie much better.

It does suffer a little bit form forgettable side characters, with the only memorable ones being the bullies, who are without a doubt the most over the top evil little kids ever. I understand picking on Owen because he was smaller than them, but at some points they are downright trying to kill him. But that justifies Abby killing them in the end I guess. The movie is about Owen and Abby anyways, so since most of the focus is supposed to go them, I can forgive it.

And that's what makes this movie. Owen and Abby. The two just have this amazing chemistry and it really tugs at the heartstrings sometimes. I can't say enough about how much I love these two.

Anyways, I should probably stop gushing over this movie. But it really was this damn good and the best movie I have seen in a very long time. It's a real vampire movie that i have been desperately been wanting to see and it delivered full scale. It sort of gives me hope that maybe the Horror genre isn't dead. I really should be hitting myself for not seeing it sooner.

@Deathseer, thanks for that review. I own Let Me In, but haven't gotten around to watching it. I will definitely put it on my to-do list I love Vampire/Werewolf/Supernatural movies so I figured I would like it.

@Floatzel98, I really liked the Percy Jackson movie. I really hope we get a second movie

Sherlock Holmes A Game of Shadows. I didn't think it was as good as the first one, personally, but my dad seemed to like it. Before that it was Johnny English, though it wasn't as funny as I remember it... I have yet to see Reborn And I watched Muppets Christmas Carol on Christmas eve too; one of my faves ^-^

I just watched Let Me In. I thought it was a great movie. I love Vampire films and this one was one of the most realistic Vampire films. It sticks to the Vampire lore. It's not really scary at all. It's mainly the relationship of a 12 year old boy and a 12 year old (physically) Vampire girl. I thought it was really good.
I am suppose to go to the theater tomorrow to see Underworld 4! I really hope it's as good as the others.

I honestly hope the reboot is good. I really enjoyed watching the first 3 Spider-man movies. I hope the reboot is just as good, if not better, than those. I'm looking forward to it.

    Final Destination 2

Wasn't exactly one of my smarter decisions. Again, I only watched it because nothing else was on. And while it wasn't horrible, it wasn't that good.

It really doesn't help that I'm not too much of a fan of the "Gore Porn" genre, and that's essentially what this film series is. A bunch of writers walking up to a board and saying "Ok, how can mutilate this number?", number because it would be far too generous of me to actually acknowledge them as characters. They're basically just meat husks waiting to die and most of them you don't bother becoming invested in enough to care whether or not they survive.

But I guess it isn't all bad. If there is one thing I like is that the villain isn't you're typical axe murder or deranged psychopath. It's the idea that Death has a plan in store for everyone and that no matter what, you can't escape it. I really wish that they expanded more upon that. Like explaining why a certain one person has the premonition in the beginning of the movie. If Death has a plan, why are these people aware of it ahead of time. Unless it is just Death saying "You will survive now, but don't get complacent. I'm coming for you next", then I really don't understand why.

One character that I didn't totally hate, or didn't just flat out not care about was William Bludworth. He sort of suffers from something I saw in a Nostalgia Critic review in that, "You care more about this side character, than the actual characters you are supposed to care about". The idea of a mortician who knows way too much about Death's plans is simply an amazing pitch for a movie. I wish they talked about him more than these husks of meat that are going to die anyways.

Now to talk about what the series is known for, the kills. And honestly, the only impressive one was the opening sequence of the car wreck. The movie really gets you sort of pulled in with all the carnage and watching **** blow up. But other than that, the kills just aren't impressive and just flat out lazy. I understand making stuff looking like an accident while it is really Death at work, but Eugene's death is basically Death flat out cheating. He didn't have a plausible means of killing him, so he just says "Screw this, you're dead" with the most implausible death I have ever seen.

So after that, you can tell I wasn't a big fan of it. But it oddly enough made me want to watch the others in the series just to say that I have seen them all, with 3 being my favorite. Although that is mostly due to it featuring Mary Elizabeth Winstead in it.

I went to see Underworld 4. It was pretty good. I liked it better than #3 (no Kate Beckinsale), but it was probably on-par with 1 and 2. I enjoyed it. I might be a bit biased though: I love Vampire and Werewolf movies. There were a few aspects of the movie that I thought were really good/cool, but if I mention them, it will be a spoiler for some people But it was good. I would recommend it.

Journey 2 was definitely better then the first movie. I was a bit iffy on how the movie was going to be because they hired such mainstream actors for the sequel, but overall it was a fun movie.

    Year One.

It was kind of funny but it wasn't the good. I was honestly waiting for Sodom to get destroyed but sadly it never came. I should've expected it not happening since it was a comedy but oh well.
