Hate it when I'm in that kind of state of mind. Maybe find something about the text that motivates you to keep reading? Idk.

In other news, borrowed the textbook for Music History 2 from a friend. Time to get into classical classical music. (P.S. Got 97% on the first History exam in August, which I'm very glad for, since I completely butchered the other one... (78%...))

I have slept 3 hours every night for the past 2 nights and this night will be a third. I swear, I will never stay up doing homework and then party like that again. At least for another 2 months. Or until Christmas. Family visited over from the states and down here Tuesday will be our 4th of July. So it's a nice family reunion and all the cousins get to hang out. How is this about school?? Well, while some of my cousins down here get a 4 day weekend and go back to school until Wednesday, I get to have class later today! Joy! OH ARCEUS, WHY??!!! It's not fair. Usually the school district staff likes to take off that extra day and extend the weekend. But not this year. No sir. But whatever.
At least that report I was talking about is actually due 'till later today, so that one worked out alright.

So I've never done a proper research project and my class was one week late starting our coursework so...everyone's confused as to what we're even supposed to be doing whilst also having piles of academic reading assigned to be done next week.
Literally out of a class of 19 only two people have any idea as to what their project is about, the rest of us are just winging it. Oh and there are teacher strikes planned for the next two days so god knows how we're gonna reach this deadline.
And if I have to read through another 300 page book about feminism in film ever again I think I might scream. My brain can only take so much.
Found my way back here after what seems like forever, not much has changed.

So I'm heading into my second year of University now, and I'm beginning to get stressed out with the social side of things. During the first year, I had serious family issues going on for the majority of term time which caused me to suffer from depression and not want to socialise much. Considering I don't socialise much anyway being an introvert, I doubt this helped me much, but that's not worth worrying about now anyway.

Moving on, I managed to make a decent group of friends early on who were living in the same halls as me. I thought everything was going fine, but they decided to make housing plans for later in the semester really early, and I wasn't told or asked about any of this. So I tried to ask what was going on with several people, to which they practically ignored what I was saying to them. So everyone in this entire group, except for me, ended up moving in together and I'm stuck somewhere else with people I barely know because I had to throw plans together quickly.

So I still speak to these people and go and see them. Goodness knows why since most of them treat me like a stranger even though I've known them all for a year now. Most people have moved into their student houses within the last few days, and I've made the effort yet still to talk to these people even though I'm still annoyed about everything that has happened. Slowly, I'm losing the motivation to do this. I've been down to see them three times this week and not a single person among them all has made the effort to even ask me what I am doing, let alone come and see me. I only live a couple of minutes away from them.

Tl;dr; I need new friends before I end up fighting with somebody

Aww that's really unfortunate. If you ever need someone to talk to and feel welcome you can always chat with the people in this thread!

Maybe you can try befriending the people you're living with? That's what I would do. Being an introvert myself (specifically an INFJ if anyone cares ) I can see how hard it may be to approach other people. But what is there to lose by approaching them first? At least that's my opinion.

    :::

I'm back to this thread guys! I think I posted at the first day of school or so during August, but I haven't been on since I have this site blocked on weekdays to help prevent procrastination. Nothing big has happened since then.

Yeah, I get that. A situation feels like the end of the world and then the next day you're like: "What was I so worried about?" It's a bit like a rollercoaster.

Anyway, I'm moved into my dorm now for my first year of uni. My flatmates are all really nice, though not people I would usually make friends with, if that makes sense? We don't have much in common, so I'll probably get most of my friends from my course/societes. Societies Fair is tomorrow, which I'm looking forward to

Well I'm moving into my third week of school so far, and the strain of it all has really got to me. See, my school used to run on a system which had 3 lessons a day, each one for 100 minutes. Then the school faced difficulties and we had to change to fit Ofsted's rules and stuff. One of these things was returning back to 5 lessons a day, each for an hour. I'm in my 4th year of secondary school, or year 10 (14-15 year olds for the non-British) which means GCSE's and mock GCSE's are here. That's already enough pressure for my mind to take since my options were History (lots of essay work), Sociology (same), ICT (same again) and Spanish (not as much work but it's a foreign language, so in reality it's a lot more work) plus standard English, Maths and Science. So I'm getting more homework because of how many lessons a day I have + my year group gets more because we're taking tests this year and next year. Homework does not bother me. Tests and assessments do not bother me. 5 lessons a day do not affect me too much. But it's these 3 things joined together and the fact I need to get used to all of them very quickly which is putting the strain on me.

GCSE's don't concern me too much; I'm an A/A* student in everything bar Physical Education (PE) and I intend to go to university the first chance I get. So I reckon with enough revision I'll do fine with these tests and achieve my best possible grades, all with very little panicking or worrying. I feel more prepared for even my most difficult subjects ICT & Spanish then I did last year, possibly because I'm forcing myself to make notes of words and such and their meanings for later work. I'm targeted an A* in Science, quite possibly my worst subject last year because of how boring it got (the class was a nightmare, I had 7 teachers overall and the work was so dull) - this year is better mainly because of the girl I'm sitting next to, not because of anything else.

Has anyone else in High/Secondary school got a student voice sort of thing? And how useful do you find it? Mine's crap. Really, they do nothing and make no effort to hear students' opinions about things, so the teachers make the rules unimpeded. What about you though? If it does work, how? Is it student mentality (as in, do students make an effort to find these people and talk to them about things) or what? My year get to sign up to be head of the student voice thing. I'm not going to do it even though I've been told I'd be good at it because I'm not particularly suave and I hate the fact that I'd be useless. But that's just me.

    What an intriguing thread...

I really wish I would stop forgetting things until shortly before something is due. Always get panicked when this happens. At least I suddenly remembered the thing or else I'd be doomed.

College is stressful. I've been studying my brains out for this biology test and I got a C. Ughh I need someone to talk to this about with but the student lounge is always there for me! It makes me miss high school, but I really don't want to go back there. Meh, I just want to finish school

My application went through, and I'm heading off on an overnight trip in a few days! The bad part is that I miss classes, but everyone and their grandma is going, so it's unrealistic for teachers to assign too much while the lot of us are gone. So... no cons, really. I'm looking forward to it.

It's amazing how much more work there is in university than there is in high school. My homework/assignment time amounts to like double or triple the amount of time I'm in class. Stressful!

I hate when professors don't use the 100 point system for grading exams. I got an exam back the other day and nearly flipped my **** when it said I made a 49 on it. But then he goes on to explain that the tests are worth 50 points each. So really if you divide 49/50 it's a 98%.

Ours was a joke. I used to run meetings as a sixth former, we wrote down opinions, which got passed to the guy in charge, but I don't think anything ever came of any of it. They recently changed it where we assigned the students to go to see certain teachers/the caretakers about certain issues, but we met up every two weeks, and the amount of people who forgot to go, or had one small problem with it and had to wait for the next meeting in about two weeks was very high.

Anyway, I've been at uni for a few days now. Been having meet ups with the Anime society which have been a lot of fun. I've got my timetable for Japanese, but not for German yet. Japanese I have at least one fifty minute class a day, but I still don't know how busy I'll be yet.

Have my first and only midterm of midterm season today (for Multivariable and Vector Calculus), I'm not sure how I should feel for it. On one hand I think I'm prepared, everything we learned is easy, but no matter how ready someone can feel for a midterm, I can't help but feel anxious that I'm not ready for it. It's only 50 minutes and 4 questions though, so at worst I'll only be struggling for 50 minutes. No use in panicking now, though.

I stayed in school an hour past my last class. I usually get out at 7pm, but decided to go to the library and do homework. I actually got something done. That place is magical, I'm not even playing. It would take me 3 hours to do it at home. I swear, you even get motivated to get work done. From now on, I'm staying after school until 8pm, and do a little homework everyday. That should free up my mornings jejeje

I usually avoid doing homework at home precisely because I'm too easily distracted.

In public spaces--like coffee shops and libraries--I feel that people are judging me if I'm doing something other than studying (e.g. playing my 3DS). Regardless if people are judging or not, it's enough to keep me on task.

I hate it when that happens - I study a lot of stuff for a test, and the test is on everything I didn't study. I had a situation this week at my university where the instructor provided a study guide with a long list of questions to answer. I filled out the entire study guide and studied it really well, and also glanced over the lecture notes the teacher posted in case I missed anything. So then I took the exam... and a lot of the questions were not on the study guide at all, and were barely mentioned in the lectures. This was a neurobiology class; I remember this one question about this neurotransmitter receptor that was glossed over in lecture (and not on the study guide), and I basically wracked my brains trying to remember what neurotransmitter it corresponded to. Fortunately I tend to have a good memory when it comes to situations like this, so hopefully I did well on the exam.

Speaking of exams, I used to have a habit of laughing at the incorrect responses in a multiple-choice question on an exam. I have since abandoned that because it was distracting to the other students... well, abandoned isn't quite the right word, as nowadays, instead I like to write stuff next to these incorrect responses, such as the reason why it's wrong, or some variant of "LOL" or "NO!".

Also, currently I'm a teaching assistant at my university as well; I teach a couple of introductory biology labs, the instructor of the course being more like a moderator for the course website and the "boss" of all the other teaching assistants. The strange part about this is that a couple of my students are in the aforementioned neurobiology class that I'm taking (the class is available for both undergraduate and graduate students), so I've gotten a couple of neurobiology-related questions (and this week, complaints about the aforementioned exam) during the lab. One of the students even sits next to me in that class. I'm always tempted to talk to him, but at the same time I don't want to because I don't want to imply favouritism towards that student.

Just ordered my textbooks for Japanese, and I'm super-excited to start this course now Tomorrow's gonna be very busy - I have a library induction, two welcome talks for different subjects, I need to see my Japanese teacher, then I have to go to the doctor's, then there's a meet for the anime society where we're gonna watch the new Ghibli film. The weekend should, hopefully, be quieter

I can't believe I'm actually caught up after being so far behind on my classes. Just gotta do a small project (which I'm looking forward to), and it's home free. This is gonna be a good weekend. I'll have time to clean my car, reorganize the garage, and try out that new chilli recipe I found to make Frito Pies. Can you believe they don't sell Wolf chilli down here?

If it's okay, I'd like to mention some good news, something I'm really happy about.

I finally finished my first string quartet! Yay! As a music composition major, I've been struggling to efficiently write decent pieces. This piece I completed today is very good, especially for where I am right now. I am so very proud of myself, and I hope I get even better.

Sorry if I sounded at all pretentious. I didn't mean to. I'm just really happy.

^Congratulations This is the place to share your achievements, after all

Anyway, something's wrong with the uni's Internet system so we couldn't sign up to the groups for our classes yet, which is a bother for me because I need to know about timetable clashes. I'll just play it by ear, I suppose.

sometimes with a mix of high C and B's on exam and "end of semester" curve i could get a B in the class lol. I guess it depends on the college and the class.

Then there are classes where everyone essentially did bad and the average was also lower (than high school, think 40-60's) that "end of semester" curve is inevitable :P

Got back from the trip last night, was super tired. It was pretty fun, though, we stayed overnight on a hill overlooking the lake.

Unfortunately, classes still go on without me, and I've a veritable mountain of homework to finish this weekend. :P
