I've heard of worse candidates, and probably still listen to them on a regular basis.

I haven't really heard the new RHCP, so I can't weigh in on it much, but I did love the hell out of all of the Frusciante albums. But at least some of them could have stood way better production.

Their singles from the new album are pretty good, but it seems to be more along the lines of their last two albums. Quite honestly the band doesn't need Frusciante. They released two good albums before either Frusciante or Smith joined in the 80s.

New RHCP is actually decent. I was kinda expecting it to suck, but surprisingly it didn't. Josh's an awesome musician and he laid low with his first album with RHCP, which was a good move cause he was moving in on John's shadow. And Kiedis's lyrics and vocal delivery seem to have matured, as surprising as that was (well, matured compared to himself). I especially like some Flea's bass on I'm With You.

Nah, this might sound pretentious but the lo-fi production of his solo albums accentuate the music. To Record Only Water For Ten days wouldn't sound as raw if it had better production, same for Niandra Lades and usually Just a T-Shirt. His later albums have good production by the way.

It's not that they don't need Frusciante, Frusciante had become way too good for them. His musical interests just couldn't be satisfied within a rockband so he had to move, honestly RHCP just limited his talent. I enjoy RHCP but I wouldn't exchange one of his solo albums for the whole RHCP discography.

an album can be very heavily produced and still sound incredible (see anything mastered and mixed by Steven Wilson), i don't think it's fair to say it couldn't sound better if it's properly produced

Fair enough assertion. I wasn't trying to deny Frusciante's talent by any means. His solo work is most certainly one of the better music reccomendations I have got from sppf.

I think it really depends on the music in question. Some bands just really benefit from simpler or lower fidelity production. Bands like Guided by Voices or Sebadoh kind of lose their character when you polish up their music. Low quality/minimal production can be part of the art of a recording as well, so more polish isn't going to improve anything.

Was it Grizzlyb? He's the only other person on here that I know likes John Frusciante's solo work. I've tried to get people here into it but it just never worked (plus I'm barely active so that doesn't help).

    Hey guys.

Rock, and it's sub genres, are pretty much all I listen to, with some metal. I'll just list some of my favorite bands:

    Meat Loaf
    Blue Oyster Cult
    Journey
    Saxon
    Rush
    Led Zeppelin
    Scorpions
    Volbeat

Next year, I am going to see Whitesnake, Journey, and Thunder play together, along with Gamma Ray and Helloween. I wanted to go to Download, but I have a maths exam on the Friday.

Some people were talking about King Crimson some pages back so I looked them up and I came across Starless. It's a beautiful and relaxing song, do they have any more like that?

I think I meant the RHCP albums, which were WAY TOO LOUD past about the mid-90s, but yeah, fair on those.

I love all forms of rock music. I've been obsessed with Shiny Toy Guns since I was 16 or 17, I'm 23 now. They have inspired me in so many ways. Say what you will, but they are my favorite rock band of all time.

I think it's stupid how The Puritan is missing from Blur 21 but Under the westway is there (even though it's a remix in a way).
I wonder if any other bands will make a box like that like Oasis and I wonder what will happen to the masterplan if that happens.
