I don't really GAF about the Kanto Gym Leaders, but Erika somehow stands out from the rest so I voted for her.

I chose Sabrina. In liked her in the anime and in the game. Her gym layout was difficult too.

Giovanni, not only is he my favorite Gym Leader, he's in my list of top 5 favorite characters in Pokemon (along with Juan from E, Steven from R/S/E, Silver from G/S/C/HG/SS, and Natural Harmonia Gropius aka N from B/W/B2/W2). He has an amazing role in the story of the game, a great backstory, the final gym leader, and most importantly, Italian (I'm 100% Italian). I always look forward to battling him, seeing it more than a boss battle or gym leader, while the others give me a feeling of let me KO you so I can have my experiance.

Who doesn't like Giovanni? Finding him as the gym leader is epic ^_^

Personally, my favourite gym leader that was found in Kanto during Generation III was Giovanni. It has nothing to do with his choice of typing or the puzzle of the gym itself. It was how linked the backstory to Team Rocket was with his gym. this was the final fight. Do or die. He loses, Kanto Team Rocket is done. It was a very sentimental battle to any player, not only completing the gym challenge, but putting an end to the original crime syndicate.

Looking at a "hardest gym leader in Kanto" standpoint, Koga really stands out here. Your only true hope of beating him quickly and efficiently is via obtaining one of the following and maintaining its level before the battle. The list is as follows:

- Nidorina / Nidorino
- Nidoqueen / Nidoking
- Kadabra / Alakazam
- Hypno
- Magneton

Without one of those or an overpowered neutral hit on your team, Koga was very much indeed a pain. Toxic would always quickly wear down your team, especially if you lacked Antidote / Full Heal / Pecha Berry or a Poison type of your own. Acid Armour and Minimize on the same Muk always made it a pain, especially when your Pokemon at this point in the game did not have the worlds' greatest Defence stat or Steel typing. The risk of Explosion or Self Destruct from his Koffing and Weezing was always there, and could quickly turn the tide of the battle from your favour to his. The maze and constant risk of Poison from the gym trainers also always made this gym difficult to novice players. Part of this also shows why I highly regard him as one of my favourite gym leaders.

Of course, this is strictly opinion. Vote goes to Koga for the above reasons.

The first Two as the original GL's and Blaine because I love this concept of Burning fire Pokemon.
Just like Flannery from Hoenn, I think Blaine is my overall favourite.
