Yoshi is the only character I ever use in the game.
I'm thinking maybe I want to play online again, but with communities scoreboards being based on who plays 24/7 the most with no sleep, and I don't have any interest in raising my VR anymore, I don't know if I'll play online again.

Running into the finish pole actually saves 0.05X seconds due to it counting as part of the finish line, but you hit it faster than it takes to cross the line. Its little things like that that give people those world records.
And you must be messing up somewhere, because with yoshi, egg 1, wood, gold I still get 1:46ish. And that has -2 overall land speed in addition to its already low speed.

I used can't remember what I used but I know it had high speed and low acceleration (it's only really needed at the start...). I think I lose most of my time when you go round the inside of some of the corners. I try my best to but I either fall off or maybe drift around the middle :P
