I never heard of Midsummer, I assume it's a play but I never really pay attention to plays and musicals.

What made it so awful?

I had to do midsummer as an end of year play.
Kinda had to wear a red dress in front of everybody I knew. for 5 nights. And beat myself to death with a shoe. And speak in a really high pitched voice.

You've never heard of A Midsummer Night's Dream? That's surprising, being one of Shakespeare's most popular overdone shows.

It was awful for many reasons. Bad designers, bad stage managers, poor communication, the scene shop breaking lighting things.. etcetera.

The only Shakespeare play that I've read that was worth the time was Othello. Actually, I enjoyed Merchant of Venice too but I can't say I remember much of it.
