Fully possible. He does strike me, in a way, as the sort that would do something so cynical as create trite **** when something he considered good didn't get any concern, or maybe I'm reading too much into the Only Sane Woman vibe I got from Inara.

He's also given very little credit for helping to create the teen-vampire genre, even if it has become a rather evil thing.

I don't think he wants to be associated with that, if I had to hazard a guess, but I've never met the man.
