Jirachi, some were not taught to be as strong as you nor is their case the same as yours. I hope my son grows up more like you than Datt, but I have to wait and see.

Thank you! I had my mother's help with managing my autism. Just make sure your son knows what is wrong to do and what is right so he'll be a good model for other children with autism.

That's actually one thing that's always bothered me to be honest; people using their disability as an excuse to get away with anything.

I have a friend that does this frequently and to be fair it's more my friends' fault - including mine - than his own. He's constantly spoiled and as a result even now thinks it's acceptable to continue like that.

Sure glad I didn't know this Dattebayo guy though. =/

    Might as well throw in the ring;

A lot of the disabled folk I've know have shown remarkable tendancy to think they can get away with a lot of things others would not, because they believe their disabilities gives them a right to be greedy, thoughtless idiots about it.

The epitome was when an albino at my school who had Downs Syndrome pushed to the front of a lunch line. When told to go to the back, he said he did not need to because he was 'special.'

I facepalmed myself through a wall in dismay.

This applies to elderly as well. The amount of elderly people who have talked to me like **** for no reason is quite high.

We all know what Dattebayo did.

You were trying to justify certain behaviour if exhibited by someone who has a disorder which impairs some cognitive functions. Autism isn't some kind of free ticket to be able to do whatever the hell you want. Such a careless attitude towards autism is just stupid imo.

I would think that's just discrimination; I've had my share of that myself. I remember travelling on a bus and listening to my MP3 player. I got told by some elderly guy behind me that I was 'threatening' and should turn off the MP3 player. =/

I got that sometimes too; I've seen several old people expect people to get off their seats when there are plenty of others on the bus, or to be treated with respect when they show none, simply because of their age. My neighbour is especially guilty of this; he complains about the mildest of noise but stumbles home at 2 in the morning quite a lot, and most of the time he's got more drink in him than an Irish pub.

Not justify, Remind that in many cases Those of us without experience should be more understanding. I don't have a careless attitude, I have an Autistic child & four Nieces/Nephews all with varying degrees on the spectrum. So I would say my attitude is fairly more informed than most. For one of them actions like Datts would actually be an improvement! So Yes I will continue to justify some actions, Autism does not affect each person the same, so for each Jirachi and My son, there is the child who will smash his/her head into a wall when their day even changes in the most minute way. Do you know if he lives in a house that works with him or one that does not know how to handle his needs?

So it is quite possible that Datt could not control what he was doing. It is also possible he could, but who are you or I to make that judgement considering we do not live with him. Just saying, one should learn more before making judgements of intelligence.

    So true!

Well I've been told to "move" quite aggressively by elderly people, and on more than one occasion as well. There's also the situations where they think they can just say their thoughts out loud and nobody will get offended.
    And the racism.
    Jesus.

    Jesus.
The racism is vaguely understandable; they came from a time when casual racism was the norm. My gran was the lovliest woman you could talk to, and she was frequently racist, foul-mouthed and sarcastic.

I still don't know if she was joking or serious about half the stuff she said.

It's understandable, but let's not excuse it, at least.

That's true, but it would be nice if my Nan would tone down the racism in front of me a little bit, since I'm mixed and she isn't it does make me wonder whether she takes what she is saying seriously or not. It doesn't offend me, however it's just a bit embarrassing to hear.

Autism does not affect morality. Anyone, anyone, who has been brought up well should see the immorality in posting sick images on a forum which attracts children. Autism can justify some things, but it can't be used like some badly forged sicknote for anything and everything.

It may not be the same, but I had enough bad acid trips in my youth to understand how tough it is to make good choices when you can't think coherently.
In some of the more extreme circumstances, Autism is a justifiable excuse for behavior that people consider "abnormal". However, there is a difference between not being able to control one's behavior and unintentionally doing something harmful to oneself or others, and doing intentionally harmful things and using Autism as a cop out.

I won't argue that except to ask if that also covers those Autistic people who have violent outbursts? I know many are self abusive but some have outwardly directed outbursts. Using the syndrome as an excuse for everything is wrong, but how do we know when it is and isn't an excuse unless we know the individual history. All I'm sayin'

I hate when adults use that excuse too. There are disabled kids in my class who get away with murder without any punishment. I understand that they're not fully aware of what they're really doing, but it's honestly just unfair.

I feel the same way about my grandmother. After hearing about an overpopulation problem, she said "we need a good war to clean some out" or something along those lines. She's ridiculously blunt too. She asked my cousin once "does Tommy (her husband) mind you being so fat?".

    She's a tad nuts.
