Sure is a lot of negativity about 1 video review; as that other links shows there's more positive reviews from the game. o_o
And as for the story, I'm fine with it being a bit less than the stories offered in the other PM games. I hear the writing is still top-notch and that's all I need.
From what I played at an event, the dialogue and characterisations are as good as before.

It's not the low score that got to me. It's the things they complained about were exact things I would have a problem with

It's more a general comment (video comments for instance (yeah yeah, youtube comments pfft) and others here too). That said I'd still not worried having tried it myself, and after all TTYD is always a tough act to beat, I'll take a decent paper mario game any day.

I heard the first world is fun, but after awhile it just gets frustrating. And you have to backtrack like a lot, plus there is no use to random battles anymore

Is this your first week on the internet? Over-reaction to negative news is the norm here, even more so on SPPf.

Yeah, I'm quite aware of the history of sppf and the trend of the internet in general, thank you very much. (I was here when brawl threads were allowed and that was fun =p). I have this chronic problem of higher expectations though with optimism continuously breaking in, and no cure has yet been found. =(

Wasn't that kinda a feature of previous PM games? Like the whole sidequest in TTYD requiring you to go everywhere again... and then the main story quest just like it too. =p

No exp still seems weird to me admittedly, but I wouldn't say battles are completely pointless (coins = stickers = ability to actually fight) and they're fun too from what I tried (yay kinda like TTYD).

This is all stuff I liked in every Paper Mario game and it's all gone. It just doesn't have the same feel as other Paper Mario games do.
Yeah, I was really excited for this game before. But they took away pretty much everything I liked about Paper Mario in the first place. I'll probably still get the game though, but probably next year.

Don't remind me of the General White side-quests...

The General White stuff was just a single part. This is stuff where you'll need a sticker to progress that you might have missed and have no idea where to look for it.

Also you might have no idea what Thing Sticker to use because it's not clear enough, and if you use something that doesn't fit you'll lose it forever, and you might need that thing for later.

Plus I read something that the game is only five and a half worlds. I really hope the volcano world isn't where you end the game

You keep the things, you just have to create another sticker from it if you mess up.

I have seen that one negative review, and it seemed more so that the reviewer was complaining about how it wasn't a clone of the first 2 games. I don't see why changing the formula of a game is such a bad thing, now the series has something that really makes it a distinct game outside of the witty dialogue. Now, I do not know if the new formula will live up to the originals but I'm sure I will enjoy the game anyway. I mean, I really enjoyed Super Paper Mario, and that felt nothing like a Paper Mario game. Oh, and about the whole "backtracking to look for things" I really don't mind. The levels seem to have such great and clever design to them that the game is just giving me an incentive to return to these areas.

If you lost it forever that would just be terrible game design.

Stickers do respawn, so I'm assuming the Things would too.

Another thing that bothers me is the fact that a lot of Things are in hard to find locations, and you may need them for later. So if you miss it, you might have no clue what to do when you need it and can get stuck. I hear this game is a game a lot of people get stuck on, not in a good way but in a frustrating way

I don't know, backtracking never really bothered me (except in chapter 4 of the Thousand Year Door...), the amount of backtracking in chapter 4 of the original Paper Mario didn't annoy me because I liked the design of Shy Guy Toy Box and Toad Town. From what I have seen in the trailers the area design seems very nice so I don't think I will mind backtracking.

You wouldn't need to backtrack that much. Since the world is now divided into levels, you can skip over parts you know you don't have to go through.

No, but people are making a big deal about the backtracking because they don't tell you WHERE to go.

It's not the backtracking that's the problem. It's the fact that you can get stuck if you missed something incredibly hidden that you will need later

I don't have a problem with this, every time I enter a new area I need to explore just about everything looking for secrets. You should see me play a Zelda game for the first time.
