A strategy against legendaries

What is a good moveset and/or pokemon to help you capture legendaries, preferably legendaries of a high level, without fainting it.

In the past I have used a Scyther with false swipe, but I would like to know if there is other possibilities (A pokemon with false swipe and hypnosis/sleep powder?)

I know a similiar thread has been made, but it is in general, and the majority do what I do, or use master balls.

Shedinja works well against Mewtwo, Articuno, Regice-steel, etc.

Just damage and paralyse/sleep with your other 5 Pokemon and wall with Shedinja. Saves a few Potions, Revives etc.

It works decently.

Yeah, Smeargle's probably the best Pokemon to use because of its access to False Swipe and Spore (a 100% accuracy sleeping move is very useful for catching Pokemon!). Just make sure Smeargle doesn't get killed by the legendary, since it is frail.

Parasect can also use the False Swipe + Spore combo, but it's really slow and has a lot of weaknesses.

I use a Gallade to help me catch Legendaries

-False Swipe
-Hypnosis
-Psycho Cut
-(Filler)

Helps, but isn't as good as a Breloom or Smeargle

^ Gallade doesn't exist in third gen though. And Hypnosis has terrible accuracy.

In addition to Smeargle and Parasect, Breelom also learns Spore+False Swipe. It has higher Attack than Smeargle and faster than Parasect, but it is weak against a lot of common legendary types.

use hypnosis is good choice. personally i always use gengar as my prefer choice for firered and leafgreen. night shade is useful to lower opponent's hp bit by bit. always have sweet scent user just in case to lower the leges evasion.

for ruby. sapphire or emerald. i use paralysis instead. then lower attack using charm, build up walls.

always have alot of heals and balls. timer balls are very useful when the battle gets longer.

i don't recommend spite as when the leges use struggle, it is doom.

I try to status them with any of my Pokes and if anyone in my team knows false swipe, I use that. If I had none of those, I had to rely on my luck to get them.

yeah, sets where you can put them to sleep and use false swipe and even trap them with mean look work the best in catching legends.

A Pokemon or various pokemon with mean look, some status move and false swipe would be useful.

For roaming legendaries that flee, I first Paralyse them with a fast electric type with Thunder Wave. Something like Manectric or Raichu works well. Then on the following encounters I use a powerful attacker with False Swipe. CB Scyther works, CB Scizor works, Thick Club Marowak also works, preferably high level. Once it's down to 1 HP I look for them again with Wobbuffet in the lead. Then once I see it I just start spamming balls. Arguably sleep is better than Paralysis as it increases the catch rate more, but the legendaries wake up from it again. Against the Lati twins sleep works best though, as they cure their paralysis with Refresh otherwise.
