"You see, Masquerain was my first capture, well as a Surskit," Aubrey says while you're walking. "She adapted very well to being a contest performer. Eventually, I woke up one morning, and I found that she had laid an egg. The egg hatched into my Surskit."
The two of you push through the surrounding brush some more. Aubrey keeps his eye on the ground to make sure you're both following the footprints. It seems you're passing along the river, the same one that ends at the pond where you caught Surskit. The sense of urgency seems to show through as you hasten through the woods. You aren't even able to enjoy along the way. "He may know some strong contest moves, but he's still young," Aubrey says, breaking the silence. Now you were starting to get worried despite only meeting him just hours ago. Aubrey trips on an exposed rock; clearly his mind is elsewhere. You run up to help him back on his feet, and he says, "Who would steal someone's Pokemon? Especially right under someone else's nose?"
You're both side by side walking now, both keeping an eye on the footprints and what's ahead of you. Aubrey keeps turning to say something to you, taking a breath to start speaking, but he doesn't. After a couple times, he finally says, "My Ursaring. I told you I would tell you about him. When I was traveling through the Hoenn region, for contests, I came across a rather unique store in Slateport City. It was a Pokemon Boutique of sorts. I went inside, intrigued, and I was amazed at what they could do. The owner had developed these pills that when taken will dye a Pokemon's skin, fur, and so on a different color. Now I'm sure you've heard stories about alternate-colored Pokemon. The idea is similar; however, with these pills it makes the recoloring look aritifical and slightly monotone. After hearing about this, I thought it would be cool to have my Ursaring, who was a Teddiursa at the time, become more like a black bear. Amazingly it only took one pill to achieve this look; and I don't know if you noticed, but his snout and the ring on him changed to a grey color. I have a few others on me, as a matter of fact, in case I want to recolor anything else I catch." For a moment, while Aubrey was speaking, you can see he's relaxed a little. He even smiles once or twice. The explanation seems to have preoccupied him into not worrying about his Surskit. The same cannot be said for Masquerain, though. The Eyeball Pokemon flutters all over looking from side to side for her captured child.
All of a sudden, you hear some cackling coming from up ahead of you both, in the direction of the footprints. You hasten your steps towards the feminine sound of the laughing. Up through the treetops, you can barely see it, but there is some smoke also billowing through the branches and leaves. As you get closer, Aubrey steps off the path to approach the camp in secrecy. "We've got to keep our voices down," he says almost whispering. "I don't know who we're up against, or even if they took my Surskit." Masquerain lands on his head and glares forward. You reach the outlying border of the new camp. Luckily there are some thick bushes to hide behind. You stick your hands through the bush in order to clear open some space. You now peek through the bushes, and soon enough you see it. On the far end of the camp, in a small cage is a Surskit looking sad and scared. Masquerain must have also seen it, because she begins to stir. "Calm down Masquerain," Aubrey sternly whispers now spotting the caged Pond Skater. "We will get Surskit back." After another quick survey of the area, Aubrey quietly stands up. He has a look of determination on his face, but you still do not know whom you are up against.
You wonder if you should stop him, for a moment, in order to collect some information.
What will you do?
